A difração de raios-X evidenciou a formação dos QDs. Após quantificação dos íons dopantes por Espectrometria de Emissão Ótica com Plasma Indutivo Acoplado (ICP-OES), verificou-se 75,7% dos íons Gd3+ adicionados ficaram na nanopartícula. A grande quantidade de íons aderidos à nanopartícula, além da observação do aumento da relaxividade com a diminuição do pH e o deslocamento do estiramento das carbonilas por espectroscopia de infravermelho, são fatores que indicam que os íons Gd3+ aderiram aos QDs pela coordenação com o estabilizante e não por dopagem. A presença do íon gadolínio não alterou o deslocamento do máximo de absorção dos QDs e possivelmente interferiu na cinética de estabilização das superfícies, pois houve a diminuição da intensidade da luminescência dos mesmos. / In this work were synthesized quantum dots of CdTe and CdTe:Gd3+ having mercapto succinic acid (MSA) as a stabilizer, looking forward their use as a bimodal contrast agent for optical and magnetic images. The X-ray diffraction showed the formation of QDs. The quantification of dopants by Optical Emission Spectrometry with Inductive Coupled (ICPOES) Plasma, showed that 75.7% of Gd3+ ions were added in the nanoparticle. The large amount of ions bonded to the nanoparticle and the observation of increased relaxivity with decreasing pH and the observed shift of the stretching of carbonyls by infrared spectroscopy, are factors that indicated that Gd3+ ions were adhered to the QDs by coordinating with the stabilizer and not by doping. The presence of gadolinium ions did not change the absorption maximum band of the QDs, but probably changed the stabilization kinetics at the QD surface, due to the observed luminescence intensity decreasing.

Modelos preditivos para LGD / Predictive models for LGD

As instituições financeiras que pretendem utilizar a IRB (Internal Ratings Based) avançada precisam desenvolver métodos para estimar a componente de risco LGD (Loss Given Default). Desde a década de 1950 são apresentadas propostas para modelagem da PD (Probability of default), em contrapartida, a previsão da LGD somente recebeu maior atenção após a publicação do Acordo Basileia II. A LGD possui ainda uma literatura pequena, se comparada a PD, e não há um método eficiente em termos de acurácia e interpretação como é a regressão logística para a PD. Modelos de regressão para LGD desempenham um papel fundamental na gestão de risco das instituições financeiras. Devido sua importância este trabalho propõe uma metodologia para quantificar a componente de risco LGD. Considerando as características relatadas sobre a distribuição da LGD e na forma flexível que a distribuição beta pode assumir, propomos uma metodologia de estimação da LGD por meio do modelo de regressão beta bimodal inflacionado em zero. Desenvolvemos a distribuição beta bimodal inflacionada em zero, apresentamos algumas propriedades, incluindo momentos, definimos estimadores via máxima verossimilhança e construímos o modelo de regressão para este modelo probabilístico, apresentamos intervalos de confiança assintóticos e teste de hipóteses para este modelo, bem como critérios para seleção de modelos, realizamos um estudo de simulação para avaliar o desempenho dos estimadores de máxima verossimilhança para os parâmetros da distribuição beta bimodal inflacionada em zero. Para comparação com nossa proposta selecionamos os modelos de regressão beta e regressão beta inflacionada, que são abordagens mais usuais, e o algoritmo SVR , devido a significativa superioridade relatada em outros trabalhos. / Financial institutions willing to use the advanced Internal Ratings Based (IRB) need to develop methods to estimate the LGD (Loss Given Default) risk component. Proposals for PD (Probability of default) modeling have been presented since the 1950s, in contrast, LGDs forecast has received more attention only after the publication of the Basel II Accord. LGD also has a small literature, compared to PD, and there is no efficient method in terms of accuracy and interpretation such as logistic regression for PD. Regression models for LGD play a key role in the risk management of financial institutions, due to their importance this work proposes a methodology to quantify the LGD risk component. Considering the characteristics reported on the distribution of LGD and in the flexible form that the beta distribution may assume, we propose a methodology for estimation of LGD using the zero inflated bimodal beta regression model. We developed the zero inflated bimodal beta distribution, presented some properties, including moments, defined estimators via maximum likelihood and constructed the regression model for this probabilistic model, presented asymptotic confidence intervals and hypothesis test for this model, as well as selection criteria of models, we performed a simulation study to evaluate the performance of the maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of the zero inflated bimodal beta distribution. For comparison with our proposal we selected the beta regression models and inflated beta regression, which are more usual approaches, and the SVR algorithm, due to the significant superiority reported in other studies.

Reconnaissance automatique des émotions par données multimodales : expressions faciales et des signaux physiologiques / Automatic emotion recognition from multimodal data : facial expressions and physiological signals

Cette thèse présente une méthode générique de reconnaissance automatique des émotions à partir d’un système bimodal basé sur les expressions faciales et les signaux physiologiques. Cette approche de traitement des données conduit à une extraction d’information de meilleure qualité et plus fiable que celle obtenue à partir d’une seule modalité. L’algorithme de reconnaissance des expressions faciales qui est proposé, s’appuie sur la variation de distances des muscles faciaux par rapport à l’état neutre et sur une classification par les séparateurs à vastes marges (SVM). La reconnaissance des émotions à partir des signaux physiologiques est, quant à elle, basée sur la classification des paramètres statistiques par le même classifieur. Afin d’avoir un système de reconnaissance plus fiable, nous avons combiné les expressions faciales et les signaux physiologiques. La combinaison directe de telles informations n’est pas triviale étant donné les différences de caractéristiques (fréquence, amplitude de variation, dimensionnalité). Pour y remédier, nous avons fusionné les informations selon différents niveaux d’application. Au niveau de la fusion des caractéristiques, nous avons testé l’approche par l’information mutuelle pour la sélection des plus pertinentes et l’analyse en composantes principales pour la réduction de leur dimensionnalité. Au niveau de la fusion de décisions, nous avons implémenté une méthode basée sur le processus de vote et une autre basée sur les réseaux Bayésien dynamiques. Les meilleurs résultats ont été obtenus avec la fusion des caractéristiques en se basant sur l’Analyse en Composantes Principales. Ces méthodes ont été testées sur une base de données conçue dans notre laboratoire à partir de sujets sains et de l’inducteur par images IAPS. Une étape d’auto évaluation a été demandée à tous les sujets dans le but d’améliorer l’annotation des images d’induction utilisées. Les résultats ainsi obtenus mettent en lumière leurs bonnes performances et notamment la variabilité entre les individus et la variabilité de l’état émotionnel durant plusieurs jours / This thesis presents a generic method for automatic recognition of emotions from a bimodal system based on facial expressions and physiological signals. This data processing approach leads to better extraction of information and is more reliable than single modality. The proposed algorithm for facial expression recognition is based on the distance variation of facial muscles from the neutral state and on the classification by means of Support Vector Machines (SVM). And the emotion recognition from physiological signals is based on the classification of statistical parameters by the same classifier. In order to have a more reliable recognition system, we have combined the facial expressions and physiological signals. The direct combination of such information is not trivial giving the differences of characteristics (such as frequency, amplitude, variation, and dimensionality). To remedy this, we have merged the information at different levels of implementation. At feature-level fusion, we have tested the mutual information approach for selecting the most relevant and principal component analysis to reduce their dimensionality. For decision-level fusion we have implemented two methods; the first based on voting process and another based on dynamic Bayesian networks. The optimal results were obtained with the fusion of features based on Principal Component Analysis. These methods have been tested on a database developed in our laboratory from healthy subjects and inducing with IAPS pictures. A self-assessment step has been applied to all subjects in order to improve the annotation of images used for induction. The obtained results have shown good performance even in presence of variability among individuals and the emotional state variability for several days

Framework de práticas de gestão para TI bimodal em uma instituição financeira cooperativa

Nas últimas décadas, com o surgimento de grandes organizações de tecnologia da informação (TI) e a comoditização de produtos e serviços de TI, o mercado em geral percebeu a oportunidade de desenvolver novas soluções para seus clientes. Neste contexto, visando a criação de um ambiente de trabalho exploratório e orientado à inovação, a adoção de práticas mais modernas de gestão de TI tem chamado a atenção de executivos e ganhado espaço nas organizações. A TI bimodal caracteriza-se pelo uso de dois modelos de operação com propósitos distintos: 1) confiabilidade e; 2) agilidade. O presente estudo apresenta práticas de gestão de TI existentes no mercado orientados a estes diferentes modelos de operação. O objetivo do estudo é propor um framework de práticas de gestão de TI para TI Bimodal. São abordados os conceitos de Governança de TI, TI Bimodal, COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration), PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), Lean IT, DevOps, SCRUM e Project Model Canvas, servindo de base estrutural para o melhor entendimento do estudo O método qualitativo utilizado nesta pesquisa foi o estudo de caso, onde foram aplicadas 10 entrevistas com executivos de TI, pesquisa documental e observação participante em uma instituição financeira Cooperativa situada no Rio Grande do Sul. Como resultado foi proposto um framework de práticas de gestão para TI bimodal contendo 11 elementos e 30 práticas relacionadas. O framework cobre um conjunto de práticas abrangentes o suficiente para auxiliar diferentes organizações que tenham interesse em atuar com mais de um modo de operação. / In the last decades, with the emergence of large organizations of information technology (IT) and the commoditization of IT products and services, the Market in general has perceived the opportunity to develop new solutions for their clients. In this context, aiming at the creation of an exploratory work environment and directed toward innovation, the adoption of more modern practices of IT management have caught the attention of executives and gained space in the organizations. The bimodal IT is characterized by two models of operation in place with distinct purposes: 1) Reliability and; 2) Agility. This study presents existing IT management practices in the market directed at different operation models of IT. The goal of the study is to propose a framework of IT management practices for Bimodal IT. The concepts of IT Governance, Bimodal IT, COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration), PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), Lean IT, DevOps, SCRUM and Project Model Canvas, serve as the structural base for better comprehension of the study The qualitative method used for this research was the case study where 10 interviews were applied with IT executives, documental research and participant observation was carried out in a Cooperative financial institution situated in Rio Grande do Sul. As a result, a bimodal IT management practice framework containing 12 elements and 30 related practices was proposed. The framework covers a set of practices broad enough to help different organizations that have an interest in working with more than one mode of operation.

Modulation of sensory processing during simultaneous bimodal stimulation: Effects of sensorimotor integration

Illusions such as the McGurk (McGurk and MacDonald, 1976) and ventriloquist (Radeau and Bertelson, 1974) effects or visual capture sensorimotor deficits (Holmes et al., 2004) demonstrate that our perception of and interaction with our environment is shaped by our ability to extract and integrate relevant sensory inputs across multiple modalities. Physiologically extraction occurs through a mechanism that facilitates relevant sensory representations and/or suppresses irrelevant ones within secondary sensory cortices, areas traditionally viewed as “modality-specific” cortex. This mechanism is commonly called “attention”. The purpose of the current thesis is to investigate the influence of motor requirements upon attentional modulation of sensory processing. It was hypothesized that different task demands associated with sensory processing for continuous movement rather than perception would result in earlier loci and/or different mechanisms of attentional modulation. Two studies used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate intermodal influences between a vibrotactile and visuospatial stimulus during a continuous sensorimotor task. These studies revealed that attention to vibrotactile stimulation guiding a continuous movement resulted in decreased activation in primary somatosensory cortex (S1) relative to when the same stimulus was an irrelevant distracter. This was regardless of the spatial or temporal properties of the two modalities. In a third study, somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) demonstrated that somatosensory processing is influenced as early as arrival to S1 from thalamic-cortical projections, however, SEPs did not demonstrate decreased activation during vibrotactile tracking. A fourth study using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) confirmed differential excitability of S1 dependent upon whether the same sensory stimulus was used for perception or to guide a continuous sensorimotor transformation. Finally, a fifth study using behavioral measures demonstrated that the intramodal signal to noise ratio is an important factor in determining intermodal influence. This thesis provides insight into the influence of motor requirements upon sensory processing and demonstrates its importance in understanding how information is extracted from our environment. Understanding this has important implications for the interpretation/development of future work investigating intermodal influences upon sensory-processing.

Perception of Emotion from Facial Expression and Affective Prosody

Real-world perception of emotion results from the integration of multiple cues, most notably facial expression and affective prosody. The use of incongruent emotional stimuli presents an opportunity to study the interaction between sensory modalities. Thirty-seven participants were exposed to audio-visual stimuli (Robins & Schultz, 2004) including angry, fearful, happy, and neutral presentations. Eighty stimuli contain matching emotions and 240 contain incongruent emotional cues. Matching emotions elicited a significant number of correct responses for all four emotions. Sign tests indicated that for most incongruent conditions, participants demonstrated a bias towards the visual modality. Despite these findings, specific incongruent conditions did show evidence of blending. Future research should explore an evolutionary model of facial expression as a means for behavioral adaptation and the possibility of an “emotional McGurk effect” in particular combinations of emotions.

Allopregnanolone and mood : studies of postmenopausal women during treatment with progesterone

Introduction. Allopregnanolone and pregnanolone (neuroactive metabolites of progesterone) act as positive modulators of the GABAA receptor system which is the major inhibitory system in CNS. Contradictory results on the effect of GABAA receptor modulators are reported. Beneficial properties such as anaesthesia, sedation, and anxiolysis are reported as well as adverse, anxiogenic and aggressive effects. It has been suggested that GABAA receptor agonists have bimodal effects. Low concentrations increase an adverse, anxiogenic effect, whereas higher concentrations show beneficial, calming properties. Aims. To investigate if progesterone treatment induces adverse mood in postmenopausal women and if the severity in mood symptoms is related to progesterone, allopregnanolone or pregnanolone serum concentrations. To evaluate differences in steroid concentrations induced by different doses and routes of administration of progesterone. Methods. Two randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover studies of postmenopausal women were performed. Subjects were treated with estradiol continuously. Different doses of progesterone, given vaginally or orally, were added sequentially during the last 14 days of each treatment cycle. Daily symptom ratings were kept using a validated rating scale. Blood samples for progesterone, allopregnanolone and pregnanolone analyses were collected during each treatment cycle. A study regarding the pharmacokinetics after ingestion of low-dose oral progesterone was conducted with postmenopausal women. Blood samples for the analyses of progesterone, allopregnanolone and pregnanolone were collected and pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated. Results. Certain postmenopausal women on sequential HT with vaginal and oral progesterone experience mood deterioration during the progesterone phase while on a low dose of progesterone but not on higher doses or the placebo. Negative mood symptoms occurred when the serum concentration of allopregnanolone was similar to endogenous luteal phase levels, whereas lower and higher concentrations had no effect on mood. Pharmacokinetic analyses show that low-dose oral progesterone can be used as a prodrug to allopregnanolone when the aim is to achieve physiological concentrations of allopregnanolone. Conclusions. A bimodal association between allopregnanolone concentration and adverse mood is observed in postmenopausal women treated with progesterone. The addition of low-dose progesterone to estradiol induces adverse mood in postmenopausal women, whereas higher doses and placebo have no mood-deteriorating effect.

A novel technique for developing bimodal grain size distributions in low carbon steels

In this study a new method is introduced to produce bimodal grain structures in low carbon steels. This method is based on cold rolling of dual phase structures and appropriate annealing treatments. The difference in the recrystallization behaviour of ferrite and martensite yields a heterogeneous microstructure with a distribution of coarse and fine grains. These types of microstructures are of interest for optimizing the balance of strength and uniform elongation in ultra-fine grained low carbon steels.

Feed Intake and Feeding Behavior Associations with Performance and Feed Efficiency of Feedlot Cattle Fed a Corn-based Diet

The objective of the first study was to determine which combination of bimodal (2-population) distribution models best fit non-feeding interval data to distinguish intervals within (1st population) and between (2nd population) meals in beef cattle fed a corn-based diet. Feeding behavior traits were measured in 119 heifers fed a corn-based diet using a GrowSafe system. Bimodal distribution models were fitted to the log10-transformed interval lengths between bunk visit (BV) events for each animal using Gaussian (G); Weibull (W); Log-Normal; Gamma and Gumbel statistical functions. Criterion (AIC) and likelihood probability estimates. Objectives of the second study were to quantify individual meal criterion and examine the associations between feeding behavior traits, performance, and feed efficiency traits in heifers fed a corn-based diet. Results from study one indicate that the G-W bimodal distribution model is a statistically better fitting and likely a more appropriate model to define meal criterion compared to the standard G-G model used in previous literature. Results from the second study suggest that the meal criterion for heifers fed a corn-based diet is 11.48 min when applying the G-W bimodal model to log-transformed interval lengths between BV events. Moderate phenotypic correlations between feed efficiency (residual feed intake- RFI) and several feeding behavior traits were found. Inclusion of these feeding behavior traits to the base model for RFI accounted for an additional 25% of the variation in DMI not explained by ADG or mid-test BW0.75. Significant (P < 0.05) differences in 11 observed feeding behavior traits between RFI classification groups were also found suggesting that differences in feeding behaviors may contribute to the variation in RFI due to differences in energetic costs related to feeding activities.
