Open education : a definition and an exploratory survey of some ACT teachers and parents attitudes

Coates, Jim, n/a January 1980 (has links)
PART I Open education is defined operationally in terms of the Roland Earths (1971) open education scale plus Bob Young's curriculum scale based upon Basil Bernstein's classification of educational knowledge (collected versus integrated codes). Young's scale on the organization of curriculum knowledge is considered to make explicit ideas partially implicit in the Barth Scale as well as adding a new dimension. This definition of open education has three unifying closely related principles: (i) respect for students as persons (ii) a view of knowledge being in part a personal construct (iii) the extent by which the contents of the curriculum stand in open relation to each other. The limitations of the study and its relevance to ACT schools are stated. The literature on open education is reviewed and criticism is examined. The most important writers on open education influencing the development of the authors ideas were - Roland Barth, Tinsley Beck, Basil Bernstein, Hugh Petrie, Herbert Walberg and Susan Christie Thomas, and Bob Young. PART II A short personal history of the study is given. This outlines the development of the author's ideas and explains how the survey was conducted (plus its problems). An extensive analysis of the survey data was undertaken in terms of ten research questions posed. These related to:- (i) characteristics of respondents (ii) representativeness of the samples (iii) reliability of the instruments (Barth, Young) (iv) unity of the total Barth-Young scale (v) differences between primary teachers, secondary teachers and parents' responses (vi) factorial composition of the scales (vii) a comparison of the logical and factorial dimensions of the scales (viii) comments of respondents (ix) implications of the research (x) further research required. In general the survey data was consistent with the theory in Part I, though it also indicated there was a need for further development of the Barth-Young Scale.

Vägarna mot en integrerad IT-infrastruktur

Figarola, Rudy January 2008 (has links)

Problembakgrund:

The Culinary Browns

Brown, Phoebe A. 01 December 2009 (has links)
The Culinary Browns is an experimental documentary that traces four generations of the Brown family beginning with Bob Brown, my great-grandfather, a writer of pulp fiction, modern poetry, cookbooks and social commentary. This documentary is not a linear history or purely factual document, but instead, uses personal experience as a means to generate more universal connections to the inherently dysfunctional dynamics of family, the fragmentary quality of memory, and to ultimately remind the viewer that history is relative.

Automated Landscape Painting in the Style of Bob Ross

Kalaidjian, Alex January 2007 (has links)
This thesis presents a way of automatically generating a landscape painting in the artistic style of Bob Ross. First, a relatively simple, yet effective and versatile, painting model is presented. The brushes of the painting model can be used on their own for creative applications or as a lower layer to the software components responsible for automation. Next, the brush strokes and parameters used to automatically paint eight different landscape features, each with its own adjustable attributes and randomized forms, are described. Finally, the placement of all of the automated landscape features required to achieve the layout of one of Bob Ross's landscape paintings is shown.

Att hylla livet, men rädas dess framtid : Den globala uppvärmningen genom Bob Hanssons ögon

Ohlsson, Anna January 2011 (has links)
The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate the possibility to communicate messagesrelated to sustainable development through cultural works. Culture is here synonymous toliterature or, more specifically, the fiction genre. According to ecocritical research, this genrehas the capacity to contribute to a more sustainable development and is therefore interestingto analyse from an environmental point of view. The novel selected for the study is Vips så blev det liv - eller en hyllning till blågrönalgen(2010), written by the Swedish author Bob Hansson. The analysis is mainly focused on howthe book’s climate related messages are formulated and integrated in the story. Alsoconsidered is in what way Hansson’s strategies are compatible with the expectations raisedtowards the fiction genre within the context of sustainable development; expectations thatinclude the ability to evoke emotion, to convey new values and perspectives, and to act as alink between different parts of society. One conclusion to be drawn from the analysis is that Hansson approaches the climate issuein several ways. For example, Vips så blev det liv reflects both anthropocentric and bio-/ecocentric values, and the messages are delivered in an informative as well as in anillustrative manner. Moreover, the literary tropes give the book an emotional touch, whichmay help the reader to comprehend the information. In other words, the methods used are to alarge extent in line with the above mentioned expectations towards the fiction genre. What is however important to remember, is that the book includes several parallel themesand many comic episodes. For that reason, it cannot be taken for granted that the reader willpay much attention to the climate messages; however emotional, multidisciplinary andunconventional they may be. This highlights the difficulty in predicting the response to acertain cultural work. In order to understand its true potential in terms of communicatingmessages for a sustainable development, it is therefore essential to analyse the whole chainthat links the creator of the work to its recipients.
