This master’s thesis deals with manufacturing and logistic issues of low voltage cabinets produced by ProCS, s.r.o. company. The aim is to design and evaluate manufacturing and assembling process rationalization proposal. The proposal is based on familiarization with technological process of cabinet's manufacturing. Becoming familiar with manufacturing and assembling process of marshalling and system cabinets made it possible to find an opportunity of rationalization through automation of selected assembling processes. Automation of striping and crimping process is possible through suitable crimping machine. Situation before and after rationalization is economically interpreted and evaluated using break even point analysis. Through mentioned rationalization arrangement it is possible to improve manufacturing flexibility, reduce lead times and cut down manufacturing costs.

Study of puffing and micro-explosion during the evaporation of Arabian light oil droplets

Although the suspended droplet evaporation and combustion have been studied for decades, fundamental research pertaining to the stochastic phenomena of complex multicomponent mixtures is extremely rare. In this work, an experimental suspended droplet study of Arabian light oil was held to study the frequency of puffing and micro-explosion phenomena during the evaporation/pyrolysis process. The experiments were conducted at three different evaporation temperatures (350 C, 440 C, and 570 C), chosen in accordance with the TGA profle obtained. The suspended droplet experiments were conducted on a furnace with optical access and a gas controlled-preheating system. The droplet size was optically registered at 500 fps by a LaVision Imager Pro HS high-speed camera coupled with a magnification lens Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 105 mm. Furthermore, a computer-vision data postprocessing program was developed to identify contours and measure the size of the objects in the frame in order to register the temporal evolution of the droplet size. Additionally, a new approach for characterizing the droplet vaporization of complex multi-component fuels is proposed. This method allowed us to study the continuum (ideal evaporation) and stochastic processes separately, by following the profile of the average normalized square diameter ((D=D0)2) and quantifying the breakup intensity (β) of each stochastic event. Based on the behavior of (D=D0)2, two consecutive stages were identified at every temperature investigated, the swelling and the regression stage. At 350 ◦C and 440 ◦C, the evaporation was finally controlled purely by the diffusion evaporation, whereas at 570 ◦C a pure diffusion stage was not spotted. Instead, a second swelling was registered, where an amorphous carbonaceous structure was formed. Due to the pyrolysis of the heavy hydrocarbons dominated the process. The stochastic events involved during the evaporation were successfully identified and classified in breakup modes depending on their β. Additionally, the effect of the temperature on the breakup events was assessed. Showing that the number of breakup events increased exponentially with temperature.

College Classroom Policies: Effects of "Technology Breaks" on Student Cell Phone Usage and Grades

Cell phone use has become ubiquitous in many settings, including the college classroom. Research has shown many negative impacts of cell phone usage on classroom outcomes. For this reason, professors have implemented polices to reduce in-class cell phone use. An ABAB design was used to evaluate a reinforcement-based policy in an undergraduate course (N = 9). The policy involved allowing the students two 2-minute “technology breaks” throughout the three-hour course. Technology breaks conditions were alternated with baseline conditions in which there were no programmed consequences for cell phone use. Data on cell phone use was collected using the PLACHECK method in which trained observers counted the number of students physically interacting with their phones at 10 second intervals. Results showed that usage decreased during the intervention phase (M = 0.5%) from baseline (M = 0.8%). Researchers also calculated quiz scores for the two conditions. There was no statistically significant difference between intervention (M = 70.3%) and baseline conditions (M = 69.2%), (F(7) = 1.68, p = .24). Overall, the study showed technology breaks as a promising way to incorporate a reinforcement-based procedure to reduce classroom cell phone use, but the policy did not reduce cell phone usage to zero.

In the vast majority of cases, appropriate identification and mitigation of risk factors can prevent or minimize pressure ulcer (PU) formation. However, some PUs are unavoidable. Based on the importance of this topic and the lack of literature focused on PU unavoidability, the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel hosted a multidisciplinary conference in 2014 to explore the issue of PU unavoidability within an organ system framework, which considered the complexities of nonmodifiable intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors. Prior to the conference, an extensive literature review was conducted to analyze and summarize the state of the science in the area of unavoidable PU development and items were developed. An interactive process was used to gain consensus based on these items among stakeholders of various organizations and audience members. Consensus was reached when 80% agreement was obtained. The group reached consensus that unavoidable PUs do occur. Consensus was also obtained in areas related to cardiopulmonary status, hemodynamic stability, impact of head-of-bed elevation, septic shock, body edema, burns, immobility, medical devices, spinal cord injury, terminal illness, and nutrition.

Carcinogen-Induced Early Molecular Events and Its Implication in the Initiation of Chemical Hepatocarcinogenesis in Rats: Chemopreventive Role of Vanadium on This Process

Carcinogen-induced formation of DNA adducts and other types of DNA lesions are the critical molecular events in the initiation of chemical carcinogenesis and modulation of such events by chemopreventive agents could be an important step in limiting neoplastic transformation in vivo. Vanadium, a dietary micronutrient has been found to be effective in several types of cancers both in vivo and in vitro and also possesses profound anticarcinogenicity against rat models of mammary, colon and hepatocarcinogenesis. Presently, we report the chemopreventive potential of vanadium on diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced early DNA damages in rat liver. Hepatocarcinogenesis was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats with a single, necrogenic, intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of DEN (200 mg/kg body weight) at week 4. There was a significant induction of tissue-specific ethylguanines, steady elevation of modified DNA bases 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosines (8-OHdGs) (P < 0.0001; 89.93%) along with substantial increment of the extent of single-strand breaks (SSBs) (P < 0.0001) following DEN exposure. Supplementation of 0.5 ppm of vanadium throughout the experiment abated the formations of O6-ethylguanines and 7-ethylguanines (P < 0.0001; 48.71% and 67.54% respectively), 8-OHdGs (P < 0.0001; 81.37%), length:width (L:W) of DNA mass (P < 0.01; 62.12%) and the mean frequency of tailed DNA (P < 0.001; 53.58%), and hepatic nodulogenesis in preneoplastic rat liver. The study indicates that 0.5 ppm vanadium is potentially and optimally effective, as derived from dose-response studies, in limiting early molecular events and preneoplastic lesions, thereby modulating the initiation stage of hepatocarcinogenesis. Vanadium is chemopreventive against DEN-induced genotoxicity and resulting hepatocellular transformation in rats.

Yes / Solutions for dam-break flow mainly developed for rectangular channels are not applicable to prediction of the propagation of the dam-break wave in frictional triangular channels. This study presents an approximate solution considering the frictional effect on the dam-break flow in a dry horizontal triangular channel. Wave tip velocity is solved by an implicit formula for the product of time and resistance coefficients. All other hydraulic properties in the wave tip region can be expressed as explicit functions of wave tip velocity. Meanwhile, laboratory experiments have been performed for obtaining water surface profiles of dam-break flow from which the position and velocity of the wave tip front have been derived. Results show that retardation of the wave front position is more significant with the increases in both resistance and time. The proposed analytical solution shows satisfactory agreement with measurements, and clarifies how the behavior of the dam-break wave tip is affected by channel geometry.
