Accord sur les aspects des droits de proprieté intellectuelle qui touchent au commerce : la licence obligatoire de câblodistribution canado-américaine y survivra-t-elle? / ADPIC, survie de la licence obligatoire

Simard, Marie-Pierre. January 2000 (has links)
In 1988, The Canada and the United States of America signed the Free-trade Agreement of North America. They wrote in a compulsory licence of cablodistribution: cablodistributors could, without consent, intercept the broadcasting waves but would also have to give them a financial compensation. / In 1995, the WTO2 elaborated the Trade related intellectual property agreement (TRIPS). The latter grants the broadcastors a right to authorize or to prevent the communication of their waves to the public. / Is the existence of the compulsory licence compromised by this agreement? We believe not. Indeed, justifications to the compulsory licence are found in the TRIPS: the general derogation of section 13 and the insertion of the Berne Convention through section 9 allow such licence. We also establish that the national treatment and the most-favoured nation clauses do not apply to the compulsory licence. / 2World Trade Organization

Análise da indústria de televisão a cabo no Brasil : estrutura competitiva e evolução

Duclós, Rodrigo Modesto Ortiz January 1998 (has links)
The Cable Industry and the Telecommunications Industry are converging due to technological innovation mainly related to computer sciences. Cable networks have the potential to become a central element on the information society evolution. This paper investigates the Brazilian cable industry's current competitive structure. To do so, Michael E. Porter (1980) concepts are used. This paper also describes possible outcomes for structural evolution of the sector.

The Evolution of Cable Network Branding: Time Warner in the Post-Network Era, 2001-2011

West, Darcey 11 August 2015 (has links)
From 2001 to 2011, there were a number of significant changes, such as increased audience fragmentation and new media technologies, which impacted the television industry and continue to threaten the financial strength and success of cable television networks. The cable television industry employed branding as a major combatant to manage such challenges. Branding is the most important tool in the post-network era, yet networks use it in ways that challenge previously held scholarly assumptions about the cable television industry. Cable television network branding functions in two main ways – one as a performance intended for competitors, distributors, and other key industry players; and two as a means of rationalization, essentially a tool that network executives can wield whenever they want or need to justify a decision, action or behavior. Through interviews with television industry executives, attendance at major industry events and an analysis of trade publications, I examine the branding and promotional strategies of TBS, TNT and HBO. Industrial strategies in the post-network era are fragile and uncertain with regards to technology, partnerships, economics, programming and distribution. Thus, cable networks turn to branding as a mechanism to work through institutional, industrial, economic and technological issues that have been and continue to shift. In this analysis of how and why cable networks use branding, I explore the currently evolving post-network era and television’s future.

Educational use of video tape and cable to communicate information

Maury, Donna Lynne, Burke, Mary Ann 01 January 1998 (has links)
As educators, communicating timely, important information to parents and to the community is a challenge. By using video technology, the ability to convey such information is not only possible but rather simple. Taking it one step further, utilizing cable television allows for the transmission of a variety of information to every living room in our community.

Problematika zvyšování přenosových rychlostí u TKR / The transmission speed enhancement techniques in TKR

Šťovíček, Petr January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to assess and propose possible methods for increasing the transmission speed of the cable television distribution, concretely the UPC network in Brno. The first part of work collectively processes general knowledge and gives the reader into the issue. After that follows an analysis of TV cable networks UPC in Brno, especially view of data transmission. After familiarization with the physical aspect of the network is described data communications itself, including standard DOCSIS, respectively EuroDOCSIS. Particular attention is paid to factors that have effect on data transmission and speed. Benefit is the calculation of dividing ratio in different parts of the network and compared with the real load. As far as possible in the given work results of measurements with regard to the quality of the network. The last part is about how to increase speeds. Perspective solution is mainly a technology which is based on standard EuroDOCSIS 3.0, which introduces the concatenation of individual channels. Result of made tests of first cable modem EuroDOCSIS 3.0 confirms the very high speeds and currently preparedness for other major step in so long development of TV cable network.

Political Agenda-Setting in Cable News as a Possible Technique for Securing an Audience Niche

Mott IV, W.E. 08 1900 (has links)
In an effort to better understand the motivations behind perceived biases in the US cable news industry, 72 hours of CNN, FOX, and MSNBC during the week preceding the 2006 congressional election were analyzed. First- and second-level agenda-setting theories are used to examine how long and in what way federal politicians are portrayed. The results indicate distinct differences in political presentations between the three networks.
