Plutarco se destacou nos campos da Literatura, História, biografia, retórica e da filosofia. A obra de Plutarco teve o objetivo de preservar a cultura e a identidade gregas e promover esta cultura grega perante Roma, acentuando a helenização do povo romano. Este presente texto constitui uma experiência de crítica literária baseada, sobretudo, no método de Otto Maria Carpeaux associado com a crítica de Harold Bloom. Neste texto são estudados os elementos literários das duas principais biografias de Plutarco: Vida de Alexandre e Vida de Júlio César, além da atividade comparativa entre Plutarco, Homero e Platão. / Plutarch of Queroneia was a prolific Greek polymath of the Roman Empire. The work of Plutarch excelled in the fields of Literature, History, biography, rhetoric and philosophy. The Plutarch‟s work aimed to preserve the Greek culture and Greek identity and promote this Greek culture in Rome, accentuating the Hellenization of the Roman elite. This present text is an experience of literary criticism based primarily on Otto Maria Carpeaux Method associated with the criticism of Harold Bloom. Here, have studied the literary elements of the two major biographies of Plutarch: Life of Alexander and Life of Julius Caesar, in addition to comparative activity among Plutarch, Homer and Plato.

A Antologia do conto russo, publicada pela Editôra Lux Ltda. no início dos anos 1960 e organizada por Otto Maria Carpeaux, é a primeira tradução de contos russos realizada diretamente da língua de origem. Este estudo resgata as informações e a situação em que essa coletânea de textos foi criada, numa tentativa de remontar seu contexto histórico, momento literário e mercado editorial, buscando hipóteses que auxiliem no entendimento dos aparatos que a constituem, num esforço de aproximação do escasso material de divulgação localizado sobre obra, editora e organizador pesquisado nos periódicos da época e constante dos anexos , numa reflexão sobre os laços de interesse existentes entre o Brasil e a União Soviética. / The Anthology of Russian Short Stories, edited by Otto Maria Carpeaux and published in the early 1960s by Editôra Lux Ltda, marks the first time Russian short stories were published from direct translation of the original language to Portuguese. This study retrieved information about the Brazilian historical and literary context as well as its publishing market during the time the work was created in an effort to promote a better understanding of how it was influenced by them. The presented information about the work, publisher and editor )included in the attachments( was searched in the sparse number of publishing advertisements in the newspapers and magazines that circulated during that time. It allows a better understanding of the works content and promotes a deeper reflection on the common interests and relationship between Brazil and the USSR.

Entretanto, o processo de formação de cada uma tem suas particularidades. Sendo assim, buscar-se-á, ao traçar um resumido trajeto da história da crítica literária brasileira, situar a atividade crítica de Otto Maria Carpeaux, contrapondo-o a seus pares de ofício. Evidenciando algumas peculiaridades de outros autores nacionais, para que não se cometa a generalização de enquadrá-los em bloco, o trabalho busca ressaltar as grandes áreas de atuação crítica, as “instâncias de legitimação” de Bourdieu. Nas últimas décadas, a crítica literária jornalística vem encontrando alguns impasses, principalmente em relação à velocidade do mercado editorial e da informação, em detrimento do espaço físico cada vez menor, impedindo a possibilidade de aprofundamento nos temas abordados. A partir do debate sobre as funções, características e dificuldades da atividade crítica, o presente trabalho busca apresentar algumas sugestões sobre a crítica literária baseado nas contribuições feitas por Otto Maria Carpeaux ao longo de sua atividade como crítico, intelectual público, historiador da literatura e jornalista. Sendo assim, buscar-se-á destacar as características fundamentais de Carpeaux em função de seu método, fornecendo perspectivas para uma leitura da literatura brasileira a partir de seus Ensaios Reunidos. / The histories of criticism and literature are mixed over a given formation process and cultural development. However, the formation process of each one has its particularities. Therefore, the aim of this work, in tracing a brief trajectory of the history of Brazilian literary criticism, is to situate the critical activity of Brazilian author Otto Maria Carpeaux, contrasting him with his occupation peers. Evidencing some peculiarities of other national authors, in order not to commit the generalization to fit them as a single block, the work intends to emphasize the main areas of critical activity, the Bourdieu’s legitimation offices. In recent decades, the journalistic literary criticism has found some dead ends, especially for the speed of publishing and information, to the detriment of the over and over small physical space, hindering the possibility of to get deep into the discussed topics. From the debate about the functions, characteristics and difficulties of the criticism activity, the current study intends to introduce some suggestions upon the literary criticism based on the contributions done by Otto Maria Carpeaux along his activity as a critic, public intellectual, literature historian and journalist. Thus, it will intend to point the fundamental characteristics of Carpeaux in function of his method, providing some perspectives to read the Brazilian literature, according to his Collected Essays.
