Primena metoda inverznog inženjerstva u cilju pronalaženja graničnih uslova pri livenju u peščanim kalupima / Application of inverse engineering methods for estimation of boundary conditions in sand casting process

Kovačević Lazar 01 October 2015 (has links)
Razvijena je i<br />nova empirijska korelaciona funkcija kojom se može opisati promena<br />vrednosti koeficijenta prenosa toplote između kalupa i odlivka.</p> / <p>In this study a new experimental technique and apparatus for estimation of<br />boundary conditions in sand casting process were developed. It is shown<br />that thermocouple positioning errors can be nullified by introducing a concept<br />of apparent heat diffusivity of the mold material. In this way, total error of the<br />heat transfer estimation can be reduced. Additionally, it was found that the<br />process of precipitation of intermetallic compounds can influence the value of<br />achieved metal-mold heat transfer. A novel empirical correlation function is<br />proposed. This function has the ability to accurately describe the change in<br />interfacial heat transfer with the casting surface temperature.</p>

Optimalizace bramového plynulého odlévání oceli za pomoci numerického modelu teplotního pole / Optimization of Slab Concasting Via Numerical Model of Temperature Field

Mauder, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deals with optimization of the continuous slab casting process. The thesis summarizes the basic analytical and empirical findings concerning to the solidification process, the numerical modeling and the selected optimization techniques. Physical conditions and factors that affect the quality of steel including their relationships are also described. The basis of the solution strategy is the original numerical model of the temperature field in its off-line version. The numerical model was verified by the real historical data. The optimization part is based on the fuzzy logic implemented above the numerical model. The optimization algorithm is used for the optimal control of the casting process. The universal usage of the optimization model is demonstrated on several cases, e.g. the finding of optimal casting parameters that ensure the high quality of products, the optimal reactions on breakdown situations, the determination of an optimal relationship between casting parameters, etc. Based on optimization results, the suitable caster modification to increase the surface temperature at the unbending point was proposed. The whole concept of the numerical and optimization model is general and it can be applied to arbitrary slab or billet continuous casting.

Escape Velocity: A Narrative Short

Trotter, Joshua 21 May 2004 (has links)
This thesis book describes the development and production of Escape Velocity, a short narrative film. The writing, pre-production, shooting, and editing of the film are reviewed. Script drafts and a final budget are included in the appendices. The film concerns Larry Pipe and Percy Knuckle, best friends who dream of moving to Barbados. They hope to open a beachside bar and spend the rest of their days relaxing and watching girls. When Percy starts dating Melinda Bundt, however, Larry's jealousy threatens to destroy the men's friendship. When Percy needs money to follow Melinda to Atlanta, Larry must choose between supporting his best friend or pursuing their dream of Barbados alone. Escape Velocity examines the ways we hold ourselves back from pursuing our dreams, the reasons we justify doing so, and the changes in our life that finally inspire us to move toward our goals.

On the influence of Si on anodising and mechanical properties of cast aluminium alloys

Zhu, Baiwei January 2017 (has links)
The combination of two cost-effective processes, i.e. casting and anodising, would be an interest for the aluminium component applications. However, there are some obstacles in the application of anodising on cast Al alloys. The challenges mostly relate to the alloying elements especially Si and the surface quality. With the development of casting process, cast aluminium alloys with low Si content can be casted, and a complex geometry component with reasonably good surface finish can be achieved. This study aims to identify the influence of Si on anodising and mechanical properties of Al-Si alloys. In this study, six Al-Si alloys with three different Si level and two different Sr level were investigated. Sr acts as a modifier to change the morphology of Si particles. The directional solidification technology was used to vary the microstructure coarseness by controlling the cooling rate to study the influence of Si level, Si particle morphology and cooling rate on mechanical properties, oxide layer formation and corrosion protection performance in cast Al-Si alloys. This study has observed that Si has a significant influence on anodising. During anodising, Si particles are anodised at a lower rate than the Al phase. The presence of Si particles in eutectic phase make the oxide layer locally thinner and more defected due to the low oxide growth rate in eutectic phase. This study observed the presence of residual metallic Al phase beneath or between Si particles. Due to their presence and their geometry, Al can be shielded by Si particles and prevented from oxidation. Si particles also act as a key role in the corrosion protection of oxide layer in Al-Si alloys. The corrosion attack propagates along Si particles as well as oxide defects to the Al substrate. It is found that the morphology of Si particles has a significant influence on the oxide layer formation and corrosion protection performance of the oxide layer on cast Al-Si alloys. A substantially improvement the corrosion resistance of anodised layer on Al-Si alloys is attributed to the morphology change from interconnected flakes to disconnected Si fibres when Sr is added, with less oxide defects and better oxide distribution. The Si level governs the mechanical properties of Al-Si based alloys. An increase of Si content in Al alloys improves the mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile and yield strength as well as hardness of the materials, but decreases the ductility. However, an increase of Si level in Al alloys decreases the thickness of oxide layer, and thereby, the corrosion protection of the oxide layer is deteriorated.

Berge, Franz 18 October 2016 (has links) (PDF)

Optimization Methods for Direct Volume Rendering on the Client Side Web

Nilsson, Tobias January 2019 (has links)
Volume visualization has been made available on the web using the Direct Volume Rendering (DVR) technique, powered by the WebGL 1 API. While the technique produces visually pleasing output, the performance of the prototypes that implement this leave much desired. 2017 saw the release of the next version of WebGL, WebGL 2.0 and the introduction of WebAsssembly. These APIs and formats are promising tools for formulating a DVR application that can do high performance rendering at interactive frame rates. This thesis investigates, implements and evaluates a prototype application that utilizes the optimization methods of Adaptive Texture Maps, Octree Empty Space Skipping and Distance Transform Empty Space Skipping. The Distance Transform is further evaluated by a CPU bound and a GPU bound algorithm implementation. The techniques are assessed on readily available off the shelf devices and hardware. The performance of the prototype application ran on these devices is quantified by measuring computation times of costly operations, and measuring frames per second. It is concluded that for different hardware, the methods have different properties. While higher FPS is achieved for all devices by utilizing some combination of the optimization methods, the distance transform is the most consistent. A discussion on embedded devices and their quirks is also held, where memory constraints and the resolution of the data is of greater importance than on the non-embedded devices. This results in some suggested actions that can be taken to also potentially enable high-performance rendering of higher resolution data on these devices.

Efeitos do cobre e do magnésio na microestrutura da liga Al-19%Si fundida por centrifugação / Effects of copper and magnesium on the microstructure of alloy Al-19% Si fused by centrifugation

Contatori, Chester 11 December 2017 (has links)
A functionally gradient material, in terms of its properties, can be obtained with centrifugally cast hypereutectic aluminum alloys. In centrifugal casting, the less dense compounds tend to concentrate close to the inner wall of a centrifugally cast tube. Since the specific mass of silicon and Mg2Si are less than that of aluminum, particles of these phases tend to concentrate at the inner walls of centrifugally cast tubes. On the basis of this, the aim of this study was to contribute towards increased understanding of the mechanism of segregation of silicon and Mg2Si particles in a centrifugally cast hypereutectic aluminum - 19% silicon alloy to which copper and magnesium were added. Hence, tubes of Al-19%Si alloy with up to 5% copper and up to 5% magnesium were centrifugally cast at rotational speed of 1700 rpm. Microstructural examination of various regions of the centrifugally cast tubes was carried out using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope coupled to an image analyzer. The amount of phases that formed and the Vickers hardness were determined across the thickness of the tube at different positions. Centrifugal casting promotes segregation of primary silicon and Mg2Si particles, (with lower specific weights) towards the inner walls of the tube. This segregation was higher at regions that were last to be cast, and due to longer centrifugation until solidification. Retention of particles close to the outer wall of the tube took place due to higher cooling rate of the cast alloy in contact with the cold walls of the mold. This retention was also higher at regions of the tube that were cast first compared with those that were cast last. The addition of copper increased particle migration due to increase in density of the liquid. Increase in the amount of copper in the alloy also inhibited the presence of primary aluminum dendrites that form in large quantities at the central regions of centrifugally cast tube walls. The hardness profile along the tube wall indicated an increase in hardness and this is directly related to the quantity of (&beta;) silicon and Mg2Si particles.

Faco, Rubens José 14 March 2006 (has links)
Non-metallic inclusions in liquid samples of (I) low-carbon aluminium killed steel (0,02wpct C 0,08wpct), (II) peritetic aluminium and silicon killed steel (0,09wpct C 0,15wpct); (III) extra-low-carbon, aluminium killed steel (C<35 ppm) were taken from the tundish distributor of a continuous casting caster for steel plates according to a procedure that minimizes re-oxidation of steel and/or pick up of liquid slag. The samples were inspected through the following microstructural techniques: optical microscopy, electronic microscopy, and electron microprobe. Were possible to feature present inclusion in each kind of steel according to morphology, size, amout and chemical composition.
