Using a Catenary Equation in Parametric Representation for Minimizing Stress Concentrations at Notches / Minimierung der Spannungskonzentration an Kerben mittels einer Kettenlinie in parametrischer DarstellungJakel, Roland 26 June 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The presentation describes how to reduce the stress concentration factor at cross section transitions to nearly 1 by using a catenary curve as notch geometry (catenary fillet). With help of global sensitivity studies performed in the p-FEM-code Creo Simulate, a normalized stress concentration factor diagram is drawn. Therefore, a CAD-model of the catenary curve in parametric representation was developed. The diagram created allows to dimension the notch, that means to determine its exact geometry and stress concentration factor Kt, without further usage of a FEM code.

Previous issue date: 2017-09-26 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / In a society dependent on electric energy for the execution of various daily activities, it is normal that its use is increasingly increasing over time. In order to carry out the transportation of all electric energy, it is essential to use transmission lines, which with increasing energy demand inevitably have tended to multiply throughout the world, and especially in Brazil, given its continental dimensions. Considering the function of the transmission lines for the electrical system, its importance in the context of the electric power supply is remarkable. However, the lines constitute one of the great emitting sources of electric and magnetic fields of low frequency, which has caused concern and has been motivating fact of several studies, like the realized in this work.
Therefore, in view of the scenario presented in the previous paragraph, it is necessary to establish ways of calculating the fields more and more precisely. For the calculation of the electric field is used the Image Method, the Maxwell Potential Coefficients Method and the Coulomb Law, and for the magnetic field the Biot-Savart's Law is used.
The results obtained for the electric and magnetic fields were for infinite rectilinear geometries, finite rectilinear and for the conductors taking the form of a catenary, the latter geometry being the most real model for the arrangement of the conductors in a line. In all cases treated, an analytical and numerical approach was performed, in order to allow the calculation of the three geometries with accuracy.
Taking advantage of the methodology of calculation of the fields, in addition this work proposes a method of support to the monitoring of transmission lines. The method consists of using the Genetic Algorithm associated to the values of the electric and magnetic fields measured to determine the parameters of the line, such as: phase spacing, cable-soil height, equivalent conductor diameter, current and operating voltage. Given the simplicity of implementation when compared to other methods, the achievement of satisfactory results and the need for a single measuring device to monitor the transmission line, the proposed method proves to be viable and promising to carry out the line monitoring process.

Nové brněnské hlavní nádraží a jeho veřejná prostranství / Brno New Train Station and its Public SpacesVelfl, Martin January 2020 (has links)
The topic discussed in Brno for several decades is certainly the building of the new main railway station and its location. Countless architectural and urban studies have been done especially in 2018, which examined three possible locations of the station. After considering the possibilities, it was decided to place a new railway station near by the Svratka river. The advantage of the chosen location is the possibility of constructing a high-speed track, which is not possible in the current position of the station. Furthermore, this area allows the construction of a station on a green field, without limiting train traffic during the works. The capacity of the new designed train station represents an increase of 30-40 thousand passengers per day. Total capacity is approximately 100,000 passengers per day. However, construction activity in the area is limited by the flood risk factor. It is an effort to eliminate this risk with elements inspired by nature. These solutions include for example widening profle of the river , determining floodplains in such a way as to maintain access to the river. The diploma thesis offers a possible view of the architectural solution of the new railway station and its public spaces. The entrance hall of the station is located at one end of the visual axis, which is represented by the considered boulevard. The dominant building on the opposite side is the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul. The requirements and location of the new main station mean an assumption for the creation of a new city icon. The iconic vaulted structure, which runs across the railway bridge, refers to the former glory and fame of the city. The curve of catenary arch used in the profile of vault is a symbol for the new station. The new station represents a significant impulse not only for the development of Brno, but especially for the development of new South district. The construction of the trade fairs complex a hundred years ago had a similer effect.

Ανάλυση οριακής κατάστασης και σεισμικής επάρκειας λίθινων αψίδων / Limit state analysis and earthquake resistance of masonry archesΑλεξάκης, Χαράλαμπος 09 July 2013 (has links)
Η παρούσα διατριβή επανεξετάζει την οριακή ανάλυση ευστάθειας των λίθινων αψίδων. Η οριακή ανάλυση ευστάθειας χρησιμοποιείται σήμερα ως το βασικό εργαλείο αποτίμησης της ευστάθειας τόξων και θολωτών κατασκευών από τοιχοποιία, όπως ακριβώς συνέβαινε και τους τελευταίους τέσσερις αιώνες. Παρά την τόσο μακρόχρονη ιστορία της μεθόδου, δεν έχουν πλήρως διασαφηνιστεί στην επιστημονική κοινότητα θεμελιώδης έννοιες και δεν έχουν σαφώς απαντηθεί ερωτήματα όπως: Ποιες είναι οι φυσικά πραγματοποιήσιμες γραμμές ώθησης και ποιες όχι; Ποια είναι η επίδραση της στερεοτομίας ενός τόξου στην οριακή του ευστάθεια; Ποιος είναι ο ρόλος της αλυσοειδούς καμπύλης και κατά πόσο αυτή είναι μία φυσικά αποδεκτή γραμμή ώθησης; Τι σχέση υπάρχει ανάμεσα στην κλίση της συνισταμένης θλιπτικής δύναμης και στην κλίση της γραμμής ώθησης στο σημείο εφαρμογής της;
This doctoral thesis revisits the limit equilibrium analysis of masonry arches. Limit equilibrium analysis is used today as the main analysis method for the assessment of the stability of masonry arches and vaulted structures, and is the outcome of important contributions that happened during the last four centuries. Although this method has a long history and a rich literature, there are still fundamental concepts that have not been thoroughly clarified, such as: What are the physically admissible thrust lines of an arch? How the stereotomy of an arch affects its limit stability? What is the role of the catenary curve (the alysoid)? Is the catenary curve a physically admissible thrust line? What is the relation between the direction of the thrust force and the slope of the thrust line at the point of application of the force?
This thesis investigates these questions and aims to a better understanding of the limit equilibrium analysis of masonry arches, and at the same time, to present innovative methodologies and new analysis tools.
Chapter 1 presents the work of other authors that have contributed the most to the stability analysis of masonry arches and vaulted structures over the last centuries.
Chapter 2 revisits one of the most classical problems of Mechanics—what is the minimum thickness of a semicircular masonry arch subjected to its own weight. At the same time, the analysis presented in this chapter answers to the aforementioned questions through the development of closed-form expressions of the thrust line and the application of calculus of variation.
Chapter 3 is focused on the limit equilibrium state of elliptical masonry arches, using the same approaches that were used in Chapter 2. This analysis was motivated from the fact that numerical results have been available in literature only for circular and not for elliptical masonry arches.
Chapter 4 computes the location of the imminent hinges and the minimum thickness of circular masonry arches, for every given embrace angle, which can just sustain their own weight, together with a given level of horizontal ground acceleration.
The numerical results presented in Chapters 2 to 4 confirm the accuracy of the in-house software that was developed for the needs of this thesis and the results obtained with a representative, commercially available software of the distinct element method.
Chapter 5 present a comprehensive structural analysis of the Tunnel-Entrance to the Stadium of Ancient Nemea which ranges from the thrust line limit analysis and the discrete element method, to a 3-dimensional finite-element analysis. Limit equilibrium analysis emerges as a unique analysis method for the assessment of the stability of the structure and its interaction with the surrounding soil.
While at the end of every chapter (Chapters 2 to 5) are presented detailed comments and conclusions, Chapter 6 is focused on outlining the most important conclusions and the main contribution of this thesis.
