Challenges of Implementing DevOps in Embedded Application Development

PULA, PAVAN KUMAR January 2023 (has links)
Background : Embedded system consists of both hardware and software. Boththese hardware and software development teams must be worked together to complete the project successfully, which requires a lot of communication among theteams. DevOps is an evolution of agile development that bridges communicationgap between teams. Since Embedded systems are not service-based, it isn’t easy toimplement DevOps. So there is a need to study what challenges are currently facedin implementing embedded application development. Objectives: The focus of this thesis was to gather the challenges and mitigationstrategies to overcome these challenges faced during the implementation of DevOpsin Embedded application development, along with mitigation strategies followed toovercome these challenges. Methods: In this thesis, surveys, and interviews were selected as research methods to identify challenges faced while implementing DevOps in embedded systemapplication development and mitigation strategies, and the survey was considered tocollect demographic questions. Results: A survey was conducted to identify embedded developers with experienceimplementing DevOps for Embedded Application Development. Out of 19 surveyresponses, 12 respondents were further interviewed for detailed information. Datacollected from the interviews are analyzed using thematic analysis and narrativeanalysis. Conclusions: From the analysis, the research concludes that continuous testingis the most challenging phase to implement. Continuous testing and continuous integration are the phases that need to be focused on more for the future implementationof DevOps

Testing and Verification for the Open Source Release of the Horizon Simulation FrameworTesting and Verification for the Open Source Release of the Horizon Simulation Framework

Balfour, William J 01 November 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Modeling and simulation tools are exceptionally useful for designing aerospace systems because they allow engineers to test and iterate designs before committing the massive resources required for system realization. The Horizon Simulation Framework (HSF) is a time-driven modeling and simulation tool which attempts to optimize how a modeled system could perform a mission profile. After 15 years of development, the HSF team aims to achieve a wider user and developer base by releasing the software open source. To ensure a successful release, the software required extensive testing, and the main scheduling algorithm required protections against new code breaking old functionality. The goal of the work presented in this thesis is to satisfy these requirements and officially release the software open source. The software was tested with > 80% coverage and a continuous integration pipeline which runs build and unit/integration tests on every new commit was set up. Finally, supporting documentation and user resources were created and organized to promote community adoption of the software, making Horizon ready for an open source release.

Purification and structural analysis of Newcastle disease virus V protein and flowering locus T (FT) protein

Jayapalan, Swapna 15 December 2007 (has links)
Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is one of the paramyxovirus that has been studied at length since this virus infects the birds of all species. NDV is highly virulent in chickens and results in a high mortality rate because the V protein of NDV is found to inhibit the avian immune response system. No drugs are available for treating NDV therefore, determining the structure of V protein would help in developing a drug that can inactivate the V protein, thereby increasing the host immune response against viral infection. The research here is focused on purification and initial structural analysis of the V protein of NDV. The V protein was purified by gel filtration chromatography and the structure was studied using fluorescence and CD spectroscopy, and NMR. The results suggested that the V protein is unstructured. The research also involved purification and structural analysis of the flowering locus T (FT) protein, which is found to play a major role in theninitiation of flowering in plants. Structural analysis of the FT protein may help in finding the possible domains of the FT protein that interacts with other plant proteins, leading ton flowering. The FT protein was purified by ion exchange chromatography and the structure was studied by fluorescence and CD spectroscopy. The fluorescence data suggested that the FT protein may be folded, where as the CD data was inconclusive. More accurate secondary structure information about the protein could be obtained using NMR, but since the concentration of the FT protein was too low (0.007 mM), proper NMR study was not possible.
