Children's Spiritual Development: Analysis of Program Practices and Recommendations for Early Childhood Professionals.

Myers, Joyce Eady 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which faith-based preschools promote spiritual development in preschoolers. The participants in the study were faith-based early childhood teachers and administrators from seven states. Early childhood professionals representing 11 Christian faith traditions completed written surveys or online surveys. A total of 201 faith-based educators completed the survey; 20 respondents participated in semi-structured interviews. The concurrent triangulation mixed-method design provided data on 8 program dimensions which support children's spiritual development: prayer, Bible literacy, worship, building character, service opportunities, assessment, parental involvement and context. I analyzed quantitative data using descriptive and inferential statistics. All items were examined using mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentages. Qualitative data gathered from semi-structured interviews were coded and analyzed using NVivo8® qualitative analysis software (QSR International, Inc., Cambridge, MA, http://www.qsrinternational.com). From this data I identified the extent to which faith-based preschool programs support children's spiritual development through the practices of prayer, Bible literacy, worship, building character, service opportunities, assessment, parental involvement and context. Data analyses revealed statistically significant differences in faith-based teachers' hours of training in children's spiritual development across all program practice dimensions. A key finding of the study was that training in children's spiritual development is important regardless of the education level of the early childhood professional. Qualitative data indicated no standardized spiritual development training in faith-based preschools represented in this study. The mixed-method analysis revealed that the 8 program practice dimensions were not always connected in a framework that supported children's spiritual development. Recommendations for professional practice include a program framework to support children's spiritual development in faith-based preschool programs; training for faith-based early childhood professionals in children's spiritual development; and formulating a definition of children's spiritual development.

Specifika církevních gymnázií v České republice / Specifics of the Church grammar schools in the Czech Republic

Pech, Jan January 2015 (has links)
TITLE: Specifics of the Church grammar schools in the Czech Republic AUTHOR: Bc. Jan Pech DEPARTMENT: School Management Center SUPERVISOR: Mgr. et. Bc. Jiří Trunda ABSTRACT: The churches and religious denominations can become school and school facility founders. What are the specifics of the church schools from the management of education point of view, which this work deals with? And do these specifics actually exist? Do the tangible differences that clearly specify the church school against the school founded by the municipality, region or the union of municipalities exist? We will focus on the church grammar schools. There are twenty such grammar schools in the Czech Republic and almost all of them, were founded by the Roman Catholic Church. These institutions create a specific, not large group of schools that in addition to efforts to provide high-quality education strive for transfer of religious values. The work looks into the historical development of the church schools and describes their actual position in the regional education system. Then, using the qualitative research method - the analysis of the materials, it deals with the issues of the church schools management and capturing their specifics. KEYWORDS: church school, church grammar school, financing of the church schools, founder of the...

The community of the resurrection's involvement in African schooling on the Witwatersrand, from 1903-1956.

Winterbach, Heidi January 1994 (has links)
A Research Project Submitted to the Faculty of Education University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg for the Degree of Master of Education / THE COMMUNITY OF THE RESURRECTION'S INVOLVEMENT IN AFRICAN SCHOOLING ON THE WITWATERSRAND, FROM 1903 TO 1956 This research project is an historical reconstruction of the schools established and run by the Community of the Resurrection (CR) on the Witwatersrand from 1903 40 1956. The aim of this research is to contribute to knowledge and understanding of missionary education in South Africa, through a study of the educational work of this particular missionary body, as embodied in their schools. The report examines key aspects of the schools, including their financial and organizational structures, the education they offered and their ethos. The CR schools varied in physical size, numbers of pupils and level of sophistication, from the well established St Peter's Secondary School, to numerous one-roomed wood and iron shacks. Similarly, the products of these schools varied from well-known African leaders and academics to domestic servants. Although a definitive judgement on the merits of missionary education is not the focus of this study, the project concludes that the initial Eurocentric attitude of the CR towards Africans and their education was transformed to one of genuine sympathy and the CR brethren became leaders in the fight for equal education for Africans in the face of Government opposition. This project is based on primary source material located in the Church of the Province Archives of South Africa at the University of the Witwatersrand and is influenced by secondary sources such as historical works and theories on missionary education. as well as works by CR members themselves. / Andrew Chakane 2019

An historical analysis of the structures established for the provision of Anglican schools in the diocese of Perth, Western Australia between 1917 and 1992

Melville, William Ian January 2006 (has links)
[Truncated abstract] Within the State of Western Australia, from its early years, education has been provided not only by the State, but also by religious denominations, particularly the Catholic Church, the Anglican Church and other Christian groups. This thesis is concerned with Anglican education in the State from the years 1917-92. The particular focus is on the structures established for the provision of Anglican education in the Diocese of Perth throughout the period. The central argument of the thesis is as follows. During the period 1917-92, the structures established for the provision of Anglican education in the Diocese of Perth changed across four subperiods: 1917-50, 1951-60, 1961-80 and 1981-92. During the first subperiod, provision was made under structures which allow for the schools which existed to be classified according to three ‘types’: ‘religious-order schools’, ‘parish schools’, and ‘schools of the Council for Church of England Schools’. The first two types continued during the second subperiod and were joined by two new types, namely, ‘Perth Diocesan Trustees’ schools’ and ‘synod schools’, while ‘schools of the Council for Church of England Schools’ceased as a type. During the third subperiod ‘synod schools’ continued as a type, but the other three types ceased to exist. At the same time, one new type emerged, namely, ‘schools of the Church of England Schools’ Trust’. During the fourth subperiod there were also two types of schools within the Diocese, but the situation was not the same as in the previous subperiod because while ‘synod schools’ continued as a type, ‘Perth Diocesan Trustees’ schools’ ceased to exist. Furthermore, a new type was established, namely ‘schools of the Anglican Schools Commission’. This two-type structure for provision which was established during the sub-period 1981-92, is still that which exists to the present day for the provision of Anglican education within the Diocese of Perth.

História do Colégio do Carmo de Caxias do Sul/RS : práticas pedagógicas e rotinas escolares (1908-1933)

Lazzaron, Vanessa 28 July 2015 (has links)
No capítulo quatro são apresentadas as práticas pedagógicas e as rotinas escolares vivenciadas no Colégio do Carmo no recorte temporal indicado. / Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-11-12T17:36:23Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Vanessa Lazzaron.pdf: 23977317 bytes, checksum: 726d74228e1affec4a54929d2413cf19 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-11-12T17:36:24Z (GMT). The paper focus is especially in relation to the teaching practices and school routines of this institution. The main empirical corpus consisted of several written documents such as correspondences, reports, internal rules, minutes, printed publications from local and other newspapers and also photographs belonging to Colégio do Carmo files as well as other documents that belong to the João Spadari Adami City Historical Files. The study foundation presented in this dissertation of Masters in Education from the University of Caxias do Sul, comprises on the line of research in History and Philosophy of Education, recounting the beginnings of Colégio do Carmo founded by the De La Salle brothers in 1908 until 1933, period that its 25 years of establishing was celebrated. The study comprises of 5 chapters. In the first chapter inicial considerations around the subject are presented as well as the revised reference, emphasising the problem, the importance of the study, the general and the specific aims, the analytical categories and the methodological procedures that were used. In chapter two the French political and social context was approached, Christian schools, the expansion of the Lasallian work around the world, the history of Caxias do Sul and the project of a Christian school for boys and young men in the city. In chapter three historical evidence of a confessional school were narrated with the arrival of its founders, the relations and tensions between the parish and the De La Salle Brothers, the changes on the school´s facilities and the education offered by the institution from 1908 to 1933. In the fourth chapter pedagogical practices and school routines that were part of Colégio do Carmo were presented within the time frame indicated. Chapter five corresponds to the final considerations, as one can concluded that the foundation of Colégio do Carmo in Caxias by the De La Salle brothers in 1908 can be considered important to the local community which lacked an educational institution at the time. The educational approach developed by the Lasallian Brothers showed the quality of its education, the environment and school discipline, as well as the extra educational activities and the participation of students and families in the religious, social and festive activities in the time frame of 1908 and 1933. Thus, contributing to the educational, socio-political and cultural development of Caxias do Sul in addition to spreading a community as well as a human and fraternal sense. These are still part of the Christian communities, such as the city of Caxias do Sul. In this sense, research has shown that Colégio do Carmo had three pillars that guided the pedagogical practices and school routines during that time: excellence in education, with demands on students and differentiated classes; discipline, as an important aspect of good workers; and religious education directed to developing good spirited people.

Colégio Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, Farroupilha/RS : histórias de sujeitos e práticas (1922-1954)

Belusso, Gisele 14 September 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-12-23T11:17:09Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Gisele Belusso.pdf: 8382490 bytes, checksum: 478fe9d4b526ec4105d5f194bafe5b4d (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-12-23T11:17:09Z (GMT). Nevertheless, other sources were used in the course of the narrative elaboration, as, for example, the Report of Previous Verification for authorization of “ginásio” course, newspapers and documents of personal collections of interviewees. The narrative done allowed to understand the emergence of the school in the local context, as well as the emergence of the Missionary Scalabrinian Sisters of São Carlos Borromeo Congregation, its action in the education área and its expansion to Rio Grande do Sul. Related to school subjects, students, teachers and directors, it was possible to note that students bring with them some traces of ethnicity and culture which are characteristic of this place. The teaching staff is mainly formed by religious-teachers which education is firstly religious. Professional education was made possible by the congregation in different forms (complementary school, music courses, dactylography, among others). Directors, congregation sisters, were initially not from the region, but this has changed a long time. The post of manager represents a function, which is not exclusive and is apparently linked to other hierarchies in the congregation. School practices, analyzed from traces and representations, allowed noting (a) the classroom as a privileged space for school practices, (b) reading and writing practices as a common thread of the other knowledge sets, (c) permeated by discipline, order and religiosity, and (d) forms of quantifying learning. These practices, hybridized by “New School” ideas, by educational laws, and by the process of nationalization marked school cultures of the researched school.

Ontstaansdeterminante van evangelies-christen privaatskole

Smit, Carin Sarah 03 September 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. / The world is currently in the grip of educational dilemmas of massive proportions. As a result of these various educational reform initiatives have been launched all seeking to remedy the ills in international public school systems. One of the reforms of this century is the establishment of evangelically Christian private schools. The research eminates from the confusion which is prevalent in South Africa with regards to what "Christian" education really is. White public schools are legislated to provide so-called "Christian" education; whilst evangelically Christian private schools claim they provide truly Christian education. There exists a need to distinguish between these two types of educational provision. This can only be done successfully, if the nature of each is scrutinised: it should provide the clue as to the reason why evangelically Christian private schools have increased with such urgency over the past few years. The primary purpose of this research is to discuss education from both a biblical and state perspective. In doing this the factors 'determining the founding of evangelically Christian private schools will be determined. Three fundamental structural elements of a Christian educational philosophy have been isolated into a model: these are the metaphysical, axiological and epistemological perspectives. The metaphysical foundation demands that education in order to be truly Christian, must be Christ-centred, evangelical and meta-cultural.
