FC WInf: Flipped Classroom in der Wirtschaftsinformatik

Lorenz, Anja, Einert, Annett, Dinter, Barbara 01 October 2012 (has links) (PDF)

Flipped Classroom : A Literature Review on the Benefits and Drawbacks of theReversed Classroom

Kostaras, Vasiliki January 2017 (has links)
Technology has become an integral part in the realm of education. The flipped classroom is a recent teaching method where students can watch instructional online videos outside the classroom that actively engage them in their learning process. Although this trend has gained momentum in many disciples and there are many studies available, research behind language acquisition through the flipped classroom model is limited. Still it is implemented by many teachers in the upper secondary school in Sweden. The aim of this study is to investigate the benefits and drawbacks of the flipped classroom in the EFL context and to see if the Flipped Classroom enhances interactive skil ls in students’ language learning. Peer reviewed research articles were used and data has been collected through research behind the Flipped Classroom. The perceptions behind it were divided. Some teachers and students experienced the Flipped Classroom as something positive with regard to availability of material, the promotion of active learning for students and enhancement in language interaction. Along with these, criticism made on this teaching method is that creating material to be available online was time consuming and that perceived an increase in the homework load. As regards oral interaction, both teachers and students felt that it did enhance skills in speaking since preparation before class lead to qualitative time for interaction with the teacher during class, something that was very limited before implementing the flipped classroom model. This review suggests that there is a demand for further studies in the area of English language teaching and English language acquisition in the Swedish context of upper secondary education.

Matematisk elasticitet en väg ut ur matematiksvårigheter : En intervjustudie på vuxna elever / Mathematical resillience as a path out of mathematical difficulties : an interview study on adult students

Broström, Christer January 2019 (has links)
How do the mathematics teacher together with the special teacher get pupils to struggle after repeated failures? Mathematical resilience could be the answer. In a Swedish context this is something needed to develop pupils in mathematics. One way out of this is to focus on three important themes: value, struggle and growth. From this it develops four different knowledges such as having a growth mindset, mathematics can be valuable, struggle and support to stay in the growth zone. Seven persons were interviewed using semi structured interviews. Selected quotes were sorted in seven categories as follows: time, negative feelings, positive feelings, motivation, extern-, intern-environment and treatment. The study shows that if a pupil has difficulties with mathematics things are not hopeless. There were pupils with intrinsic motivation who succeeded after several failures with the help of mathematical resilience. This is valuable to know for special teachers. The math teachers at the adult-school was not aware of that they worked with mathematic resilience, but instinctively they did.

Ninth Grade Student and Teacher Perceptions of Teacher-Student Relationship

Huggins, Lynda Rose 01 January 2016 (has links)
The challenge of transitioning into high school is associated with social anxiety, decreased grades, increased absences, and overall motivation to learn. Based on anecdotal evidence from 9th grade teachers in the Ohio School District, teachers had poor rapport with some of their students, and 9th graders were being retained more often than were students in any other grade. Grounded in Noddings's care theory, the purpose of this mixed methods sequential case study was to explore perceptions of rapport between 9th graders and their teachers. Guiding research questions were used to discover student and teacher perceptions about their relationship as it relates to care, respect, and communication. Archived data from Gallop Poll surveys given to 9th grade students at 3 schools (n = 163) demonstrated student perceptions of their relationships with teachers. Additionally, 15 teachers were randomly selected for a focus group interview about rapport with students. The interview transcripts were coded for emergent themes related to the guiding questions. The analysis of the Gallup Poll data included calculation of the mean, standard deviation, median, item score range, mode, and raw-data frequencies/percent for responses to answer the respective research questions. Responses on the survey showed that students perceived a moderate level of bonding with teachers, while the interview data showed that there were issues related to communication with students, administrative support of teachers, and sincerity of teacher care for students. The project outcome is a professional development about communication amongst teacher and students, teachers and teachers, and teachers and administration to improve rapport and reduce the prevalence and impact of adverse events such as dropout and other forms of disengagement.

Teaching Mathematics in English to Swedish Speaking Students : A systematic review of strategies for teaching mathematics to second language learners

Breton, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
The Swedish government has authorised the teaching of mathematics in English to Swedish speaking students. Much of that teaching is performed by foreign trained native English speaking teachers lacking training in second language learners. This systematic review summarises international studies from the last ten years that deal with the teaching of mathematics to second language learners. The review shows that second language students working in a bilingual environment achieve higher rates of content and language knowledge than learners in a monolingual environment. This study also summarises some of the teacher practices that are effective for teaching mathematics in English to second language learners.

Using Selected Novels of Harry Potter as a Tool for Discussion in the English as a Foreign Language Classroom with Postcolonial and Marxist Perspectives

Fransson, Sophia January 2015 (has links)
The Harry Potter novels written by J.K Rowling have been popular since the first book was released in 1997. Rowling has written seven books about Harry and the first four together with the Swedish National Agency for Education constitute the primary sources of this essay. The essay discusses how these supposed children’s’ novels can be used to construct a lesson for students in the Swedish upper secondary classroom. The lesson plan created is based on the analysis of the possible themes of the novels using Postcolonial and Marxist critical perspectives. The theories are used to show how discrimination and suppression can be seen in the Harry Potter novels. Previous research has shown that the occurrences in Harry Potter is similar to the occurrences happening in the real world and the lesson plan is created to compare these fictional happenings with the ones happening in our real society. The lesson plan constructed consequently focuses on how the Harry Potter novels can be used to discuss discrimination and suppression takes place in English speaking societies as required by the rules and guidelines provided by the Swedish National Agency for Education.

Benefits of a blended approach in teaching undergraduate mathematics

Louw, C.J. January 2012 (has links)
Published Article / The purpose of this paper is to provide a discussion of the educational potential of a blended approach to teaching and learning in the context of the challenges related to mastering basic concepts in mathematics at higher education level. Based on the results of the application of blended learning and teaching for two consecutive semesters at a university of technology, their potential to support meaningful learning of undergraduate mathematics is discussed. The use of clickers, minute and muddiest point papers and board work as educational tools with incomplete sentences as evaluative tool, are discussed. The conclusion is that a blended approach to teaching and learning has many benefits when applied appropriately for a particular context. The lecturer's attitude remains vital for successful implementation of technology-enhanced strategies.

Classroom management of attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in learners in the Lejweleputswa district

Nel, Rika January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (M.Ed. (Education Management )) - Central University of Technology, Free State, 2014 / In keeping with international trends in education, South Africa has embraced inclusive education which makes provision for all diverse learners with learning barriers, such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, to be educated and included in the mainstream classroom. ADHD is a common disorder known to be associated with behavioural and academic difficulties, creating challenges for both teachers and learners. Putting inclusive education into practice within diverse classrooms imply that teachers have to support and teach according to a variety of needs and preferences of learners, including learners with ADHD. I believe that teachers present one of the most valuable sources of information with regard to referral and diagnosis of the disorder. They are also responsible for creating an environment that is conducive to academic, social and emotional success for children with ADHD. However, since some doubt exists as to whether teachers have the appropriate knowledge of ADHD and management skills to fulfill this important role, this research study has sought to examine and evaluate how the presence of learners with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) impacts upon the educational and behavioural climate of the mainstream classroom in the Foundation Phase in primary schools in the Lejwleputswa District. The study moreover addressed the knowledge levels of teachers and support systems in place at both institutional and departmental level. Analysis of the information gathered through interviews revealed that ADHD learners have a predominantly negative impact on the mainstream classroom. The study found that teachers often hold negative beliefs regarding behaviour problems exhibited by ADHD learners, tend to be pessimistic about teaching these learners, and feel that they require extra time and effort to teach them. This could be attributed to a lack of knowledge and management skills of ADHD. Furthermore, it became evident that the majority of teachers view medication as the most effective treatment strategy. Recommendations for the DoE, teachers and further study were made.

Den nya världen : En explorativ studie om elevers och lärares uppfattningar om virtuell undervisningsteknik / The new world : A exploratory study of students and teachers perceptions of virtual education technology

Shanazari, Afshin, Berglund, Magnus January 2016 (has links)
Abstract Aim The purpose of this study was to investigate the Swedish school pupils and teachers perceptions of virtual education technology. How do students perceive flipped classroom? What do students think that they learn with the help of flipped classroom in comparison with traditional teaching? What do teachers think and what do they want to achieve with virtual education technology? Method Qualitative and structured interviews were conducted at two schools in Stockholm. Students in the study were a total of six people and went to primary school. Even two teachers were interviewed. One was a teacher in the subject music in one primary school, the other teacher was a teacher of mathematics and physics in one upper secondary school. The study has its origins in the socio-cultural learning perspective. Results It turned out that all the students in the study saw the benefits of the flipped classroom teaching. All students experienced a flipped classroom as an aid. All the students said they learned better and more efficiently with flipped classrooms compared to traditional teaching. Two students saw disadvantages with flipped classroom, which was about the deficiencies in the blog and on technical difficulties in finding the blog. It also showed that teachers mainly saw the benefits, and that it was easier to reach all students through the use of virtual teaching. The teachers felt that the learning environment was fun and effective. They pointed out that virtual teaching worked better than traditional teaching. The disadvantages highlighted by the teachers were about material shortages and that virtual technology did not work as it should or mismanaged by the students. Conclusions The study's findings are generally consistent with the previous research described. According to Vygotsky's sociocultural theory the blog, ipad and the computer proved to be important tools for the students learning. The students statements highlighted that it was primarily the senses that were stimulated with flipped classroom when they sat alone at home, while the social part of learning promoted most of the class time at school when they interacted with their classmates and teachers. Teacher’s perceptions and their vision for virtual education on the basis of the study can be linked to Vygotsky's educational proximal development zone.
