<p>Instructional theories often view the work of instructors from a psychological perspective while playing little emphasis on the communicative aspects. However, there are vital communicational influences on and implications for instructional practice and the instructional process as a whole. As such, this work begins with the position that instruction is, in its entirety, a communicative process. A comparison is made between the three basic models of communication (transmission, interaction and transaction) and three main educational theories (behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism). This comparison shows that there are alignments between the transmission model of communication and behaviorism, the interactive model of communication and cognitivism, and the transactional model of communication and constructivism. These similarities are explored over three major instructional activities – lesson planning, lesson delivery and assessment. Subsequently, three real-life scenarios were presented to illustrate how the three basic models of communication are manifested in the classroom. Given the applicability of the models of communication to the instructional process, the practical utility of approaching instruction from a communicative perspective is discussed. Potential implications for educational practitioners and scholars are discussed afterwards.</p>

(LMB) Swartkop onder die loep geneem. Die outeur toon aan dat daar nie altyd
duidelikheid is oor die aard van kommunikasie in militere instellings nie. Dit het
die prikkeling gebied om die aard van kommunikasie in 'n militere installing te
bepaal - in hierdie geval, LMB Swartkop. Die rede vir die studie is om
kommunikasie as 'n interne organisatoriese reeling by die LMB Swartkop te
ondersoek.
Om die agtergrond tot die navorsing te bied, word die ekonomiese- en politieke
redes vir verandering by die LMB Swartkop kortliks weergee. Die redes hoekom
hierdie Lugmagbasis as fokusgebied gebruik word vir die navorsing, word ook
aangevoer.
Daar word met die navorsing gefokus op vertikale kommunikasie, horisontale
kommunikasie, diagonale kommunikasie, asook enkele interne organisatorieseen
omgewingsfaktore. Enkele aspekte ten opsigte van eksterne faktore, soos
byvoorbeeld die 1994-verkiesing en die nuwe Grondwet, wat kon lei tot
verbetering van kommunikasie te Lugmagbasis Swartkop en die houding van die
personeel jeens kommunikasie word ook aangeraak.
Die bevindinge van die navorsing wentel rondom die feit dat vertikale, horisontale
en diagonale kommunikasie 'n definitiewe bydrae maak om werk op die
Lugmagbasis Swartkop effektief te verrig. Hierdie kommunikasie vind hoofsaaklik
plaas wanneer daar formeel en informeel oor werk gekommunikeer word. / In this dissertation, the nature of communication of the Air Force Base Swartkop
is being put under the magnifying glass. The author indicates that the nature of
communication in military organisations is not clear This provided the incentive
to study the nature of communication of a military organisation and in this case,
Air Force Base Swartkop. The reason for the study is to determine how the
nature of communication as an internal organisational arrangement contributes
to the effective functioning of the base.
This study focuses on vertical, horizontal and diagonal communication as well as
internal organisational, external and environmental factors. Aspects such as the
personnel's attitude towards communication is discussed as well.
The findings of the study centre on the fact that vertical, horizontal and diagonal
communication make a definite contribution to the effective functioning of the
base. This communication mainly occurs when personnel communicate formally

A customised proactive crisis communication process framework for secondary educational institutions in Kenya : a cross-sectional exploration of students' strike in Mirangine Sub-CountyNjenga, Wilfred Muigai 02 1900 (has links)

These institutions should also engage their strategic stakeholders in a mixed motive communication to collaboratively discuss the crises and find amicable solutions; thereby avoiding crises like the proliferating student strikes in secondary educational institutions in Kenya. This study explored the need for a customised Proactive Crisis Communication Process (PCCP) framework for secondary educational institutions in Kenya to avoid student strikes.
A two-phased approach was adopted to collect the data. The first phase involved 12 one-on-one semi-structured interviews with the principals of the secondary educational institutions in Mirangine Sub-County, while the second phase involved five focus group discussions with the students of Ruiru Secondary School. The results indicated that student strikes in secondary educational institutions in Kenya were proliferating and that despite this, these institutions lack proactive measures to avoid strikes. Hence, this study posited a PCCP framework that proposed various proactive measures to avoid student strikes in secondary educational institutions in Kenya. / Sekondêre opvoedkundige instellings moet konstant hul omgewing ondersoek vir krisisse wat hul bedrywighede kan belemmer en die bereiking van hul organisatoriese doelwitte kan verhinder. Hierdie instellings moet ook hul strategiese belanghebbers by gemengdemotief- kommunikasie betrek om gesamentlik die krisisse te bespreek en minlike oplossings te vind; en sodoende krisisse soos die toenemende studentestakings in sekondêre opvoedkundige instellings in Kenia te vermy. In hierdie studie is die nodigheid vir ʼn doelgemaakte
ProaktieweKrisiskommunikasieproses (PCCP)-raamwerkvir sekondêre opvoedkundige instellings in Kenia ondersoek om studentestakings te voorkom.
ʼn Tweefase-benadering is gevolg om die data in te samel. Die eerste fase het 12 halfgestruktureerde onderhoude behels wat een-tot-een met die hoofde van die sekondêre opvoedkundige instellingsin Mirangine Sub-Countygevoer is, terwyl die tweede fase bestaan het uit vyf fokusgroepbesprekings met die studente van RuiruSecondarySchool.
