Klassificering av utländska dotterföretag / Classification of foreign subsidiaries

Holmberg, Linda, Nilsson, Jessica January 2002 (has links)

Background: Companies often invest in foreign subsidiaries and that gives rise to translation exposure. Translation exposure arises with the consolidation of the foreign subsidiary and depends on the rate of exchange that are used for translation of the foreign subsidiary. In time several different methods of translation and recommendations has been developed. Companies listed on OM Stockholmsbörsen shall follow RR8. According to RR8 a classification of foreign subsidiaries as indipendent or integral to the parent company determines which method of translation that should be used. Therefore it is important that the classification is made correct.

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to examen how the classification of foreign subsidiaries as independent or integral to the parent company is done, what criteria that are being used and if RR8 has had any influence on the classification. This should answer the question of whether RR8 is being observed or if there is a need of further explanations within the field.

Demarcations: Only companies listed on OM Stockholmsbörsen are included. Branches are not included and not special recommendations for foreign subsidiaries in countries with high rate of inflation.

Accomplishments: A questionnaire to 75 companies. Before that a small study of ten annual reports was carried out.

Results: RR8 is not being observed and there is a big spread in how the indicators in RR8 is being used. The companies do not consider the concequences of the classification. Only a few companies have reclassified their foregn subsidiaries since RR8 came into force. The companies do not seem to give any importance to the classification and therefore the effectiveness of RR8 can be questioned.

Kroatien - en studie av ett land i övergång mot en konsloliderad demokrati

Burazerovic, Miran January 2006 (has links)

Croatia became an independent country 1991 and has since then strived to reach a democracy level, which can lead to membership of the European Union. The purpose of this essay is on the basis of consolidate democratic perspective to illustrate Croatia’s democratic development.

In order to fulfil the aim, I have applied a qualitative text analysis technique. Through analysis of books and documents, data was collected to accommodate a valid result. I have used consolidated democracy, with its five areas (political, civil, economic, legal and bureaucratic), as my theoretical framework to the data, to provide answers and develop an analysis.

The conclusions show that the consolidate democracy in Croatia has developed a lot since the independence, and Croatia is on its good way to turn into a democratic state like other West-European countries. Croatia has developed and is still developing their political, civil, economic, legal and bureaucratic areas. A good sign of their democratic development is that Croatia received status as a candidate country in June 2005 for European Union, which shows that Croatia is on the way to complete its transition to consolidated democracy.

Modeling fracture propagation in poorly consolidated sands

Agarwal, Karn 12 July 2011 (has links)
Frac-pack design is still done on conventional hydraulic fracturing models that employ linear elastic fracture mechanics. However it has become evident that the traditional models of fracture growth are not applicable to soft rocks/unconsolidated formations due to elastoplastic material behavior and strong coupling between flow and stress model. Conventional hydraulic fracture models do not explain the very high net fracturing pressures reported in field and experiments and predict smaller fracture widths than expected. The key observations from past experimental work are that the fracture propagation in poorly consolidated sands is a strong function of fluid rheology and leak off and is accompanied by large inelastic deformation and shear failure leading to higher net fracturing pressures. In this thesis a numerical model is formulated to better understand the mechanisms governing fracture propagation in poorly consolidated sands under different conditions. The key issues to be accounted for are the low shear strength of soft rocks/unconsolidated sands making them susceptible to shear failure and the high permeabilities and subsequently high leakoff in these formations causing substantial pore pressure changes in the near wellbore region. The pore pressure changes cause poroelastic stress changes resulting in a strong fluid/solid coupling. Also, the formation of internal and external filtercakes due to plugging by particles present in the injected fluids can have a major impact on the failure mechanism and observed fracturing pressures. In the presented model the fracture propagation mechanism is different from the linear elastic fracture mechanics approach. Elastoplastic material behavior and poroelastic stress effects are accounted for. Shear failure takes place at the tip due to fluid invasion and pore pressure increase. Subsequently the tip may fail in tension and the fracture propagates. The model also accounts for reduction in porosity and permeability due to plugging by particles in the injected fluids. The key influence of pore pressure gradients, fluid leakoff and the elastic and strength properties of rock on the failure mechanisms in sands have been demonstrated and found to be consistent with experimental observations. / text

Diversity within the genus Thermoanaerobacter and its potential implications in lignocellulosic biofuel production through consolidated bioprocessing

Verbeke, Tobin James 18 December 2012 (has links)
A major obstacle to achieving commercially viable lignocellulosic biofuels through consolidated bioprocessing (CBP) is the lack of “industry-ready” microorganisms. Ideally, a CBP-relevant organism would achieve efficient and complete hydrolysis of lignocellulose, simultaneous utilization of the diverse hydrolysis products and high yields of the desired biofuel. To date, no single microbe has been identified that can perform all of these processes at industrially significant levels. As such, thermophilic decaying woodchip compost was investigated as a source of novel lignocellulolytic, biofuel producing bacteria. From a single sample, a collection of physiologically diverse strains were isolated, which displayed differences in substrate utilization and biofuel production capabilities. Molecular characterization of these isolates, and development of a genome relatedness prediction model based on the chaperonin-60 universal target sequence, identified these isolates as strains of Thermoanaerobacter thermohydrosulfuricus. Application of this model to other Thermoanaerobacter spp. further identified that these isolates belong to a divergent and lesser characterized lineage within the genus. Based on this, the CBP-potential of a single isolate, T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1, was selected for further investigation through metabolic, genomic and proteomic analyses. Its ability to grow on polymeric xylan, potentially catalyzed by an endoxylanase found in only a few Thermoanaerobacter strains, distinguishes T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1 from many other strains within the genus. The simultaneous consumption of two important lignocellulose constituent saccharides, cellobiose and xylose was also observed and represents a desirable phenotype in CBP-relevant organisms. However, at elevated sugar concentrations, T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1 produces principally lactate, rather than the desired biofuel ethanol, as the major end-product. Proteomic analysis identified that all likely end-product forming proteins were expressed at high levels suggesting that the end-product distribution patterns in T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1 are likely controlled via metabolite-based regulation or are constrained by metabolic bottlenecks. The xylanolytic and simultaneous substrate utilization capabilities of T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1 identify it as a strain of interest for CBP. However, for its development into an “industry-ready” strain as a co-culture with a cellulolytic microorganism, improved biofuel producing capabilities are needed. The practical implications of CBP-relevant phenotypes in T. thermohydrosulfuricus WC1 in relation to other Thermoanaerobacter spp. will be discussed.

CONSUMERS IN LOVE : A model to consumers heart

Lima Moraes de Oliveira, Gustavo, Meinders, Suzanne January 2018 (has links)
PURPOSE To explain what impacts brand love. METHODOLOGY Quantitative approach, using online surveys, with a total of 462 participants. Additionally, a qualitative method was applied in the pre-study, using semi-structured in-depth interviews, and a total of 12 respondents. FINDINGS Previous literature lack of concern for parallel studies has a divergent effect in explaining what impacts brand love. A consolidated approach can explain brand love antecedents as the combination of brand evaluation, brand identification, and experience value. In additional findings, brand category has a rather small influence in brand love, and, brand love is a phenomenon not exclusive to one particular brand category. LIMITATIONS The findings of this research account for 50% of explanatory power, further exploration and qualitative tests are needed in order to identify the remaining explanatory power. IMPLICATIONS The results of this research suggest a consolidated model that can be used by researchers to extend the understanding of what antecedes brand love. Additionally, the model is a starting point for avoiding future divergence in literature. For managers, the findings present a three-faceted suggestion on how to use brand love antecedents. ORIGINALITY This study consolidates a divergent field of study, and by doing so, creates a new understanding of what impacts brand love. Additionally, the pre-study has an unorthodox methodological approach, and uses a qualitative method as a screening process, rather than an exploration process.

Jurisprudência e confiança : a jurisprudência como base de confiança

Lummertz, Henry Gonçalves January 2015 (has links)
This work aims at analyzing precedents as the basis for legitimate expectation within the Brazilian legal system under the 1988 Constitution, especially concerning the definition of the circunstances under what will a precedent be considered binding, allowing individuals to legitimately expect that their cases will be ruled in accordance with the suitable precedent, and of the conditions for precedents to be deemed suitable to serve as grounds for legitimate expectation and of the criteria to gauge whether precedents can generate expectation. Attention will be given also to the criteria to assess whether case law generates confidence and to follow the evolution of its capability of generating confidence. This research conducted is exploratory as to its method and justificatory as to its objective. It is exploratory because it seeks to find within the Brazilian legal system and case law, as well as within doctrine, instruments to understand the role of precedents as grounds for legitimate expectation. It is justificatory as to its objective in that it seeks to understand the legal phenomena involved in precedents as the grounds for legitimate expectation, by seeking to explain such phenomena properly and to identify within the Brazilian legal system the conditions that must be present for precedent to become the grounds for legitimate expectation and the criteria that can be applied to assess whether precedent is suitable to generate expectation. This study has demonstrated that the hypothesis in which judicial courts must follow precedents can be defined not only according to principles and postulates, but also in accordance with the mechanisms provided for in the Brazilian legal system to ensure that, once the judiciary has consolidated the interpretation of a given legislative text, said interpretation is adopted in other cases that are subject to the application of the precedent whether by the judiciary or by public authorities, while demanding that individuals comply with the application of this interpretation. From these mechanisms, a general rule can be drawn whereby: a) the judiciary should standardize and consolidate the interpretation given to legislative texts and the content of the rules drawn therefrom; b) once the content of the rules are standardized and consolidated, they must be adopted by the judiciary and by the public administration in other cases to which the same standard applies; and c) individuals must comply with such application. This general rule evidences the boundaries of the binding effects of the precedents within the Brazilian legal system and the suitability of precedents as grounds for legitimate expectation, as a means to define the behavior to be adopted by the individual. These mechanisms also allow for the definition of the criteria to assess whether case law generates confidence and to follow the evolution of its capability of generating confidence.
