Uses and Gratifications Research on Content of Business Magazine Websites

The internet brings a great impact to the magazine industry no matter in the reading way or media form which also pushes magazines to setup their own websites. Through websites, magazines can provide readers 24 hours information and online service and will help to improve their brand image. We use the uses and gratifications theory to discuss the motivation and satisfaction of the content of the business magazine websites and the result shows the ¡§practicability¡¨ of the content is the key motivation for readers. The ¡§correct¡¨, ¡§immediate¡¨ and ¡§diversity¡¨ of the content of the magazine websites just fit users¡¦ expectation, however, the ¡§practicability¡¨, ¡§uniqueness¡¨, ¡§trust¡¨, ¡§easy-to-understand¡¨, ¡§profession¡¨ and ¡§In-depth¡¨ of the content still need to be improved, especially most of the magazine websites lack ¡§uniqueness.¡¨ Comparing to male users, female users are more willing to read the content which is practical, trustful, professional or has depth. The result also shows, ¤Ñ¤UÂø»xºô¯¸is the most popular business magazine website for users. Through this research we intend to show how users think of the content quality of the business magazine websites and provide useful suggestions for magazine industry.

A pesquisa objetivou estudar a influência do grau de umidade da semente e da temperatura de armazenamento sobre a conservação das sementes de Talauma ovata. Para tanto, dois lotes de sementes com teores de água iniciais de 23,5% (lote 1) e 23,8% (lote 2) foram submetidos à secagem para a obtenção de sementes com os demais teores de água, 17,4%, 10,9% e 7,1% para o lote 1 e 15,8%, 13,1% e 10,0% para o lote 2. Em seguida, as sementes foram acondicionadas em sacos de polietileno e armazenadas sob temperaturas controladas de 15ºC e de 20ºC. As sementes foram armazenadas por 180 dias, lote 1, e por 60 dias, lote 2, e avaliadas mensalmente quanto ao teor de água, à emergência da plântula, ao índice de velocidade de emergência da plântula, à velocidade de emergência da plântula, ao comprimento da plântula e à massa da matéria seca da plântula; as sementes do lote 2 foram também avaliadas quanto à sanidade. O potencial fisiológico das sementes de Talauma ovata é favorecido pela secagam das sementes. A qualidade inicial das sementes de T. ovata influencia a longevidade das sementes. A secagem das sementes, para teores de água entre 10,9% e 13,1%, e o armazenamento das sementes a 15°C favorecem a conservação das sementes de T. ovata. / The research aimed to study the influence of the seed moisture content and storage temperature on Talauma ovata seed conservation. Thus, two seed lots with initial moisture content of 23.5% (lot 1) and 23.8% (lot 2) were dried and obtained tree moisture content levels in each lot, and the moisture contents were 17.4 %, 10.9% and 7.1% for lot 1 and 15.8%, 13.1% and 10.0% for lot 2. After obtaining the moisture content, seeds were conditioned in polyethylene bags and stored under controlled temperature at 15°C and 20°C. Seeds were stored for 180 days, lot 1, and 60 days, lot 2, and were monthly evaluated as for moisture content, sand seedling emergence, emergence index, seedling emergence speed, seedling length and seedling dry mass; seeds from lot 2 were also evaluated as health condition. Talauma ovata seeds has the phisiological potencial favored by drying seeds. T. ovata seed longevity has been influenced by initial quality. T. ovata seed conservation is favoured by seed with moisture content between 10,9% and 13,1% and storage temperature at 15°C.

Rage, giggles and fishing for clicks : A qualitative study on how clickbaiting affects perceived online news content quality

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore how the use of clickbait marketing strategies by online news outlets affects consumer perceptions of online news content quality.   Design/methodology/approach A qualitative, deductive, exploratory and cross-sectional method, wherein data was collected through semi-structured interviews to understand consumer perceptions of how the use of clickbait strategies affects perceived online news content quality. The gathered data was then analyzed with the help of a directed content analysis supported by qualitative content analysis software Atlas.Ti. Findings This study found that the use of clickbait content strategies affected the perceived quality of online news content. Furthermore, it was found that there are two primary consumer groups, one of which seeks to avoid clickbait and one of which seems to engage with clickbait. Finally, several new variables were found for perceived news content quality that applied in the online space. Research limitations/implications The main implications of this research are that clickbait strategies should be utilized cautiously as they are often found misleading or displeasing, and may cause damage to the publisher. Furthermore, despite clickbait sometimes being entertaining, most clickbait was found to be highly context sensitive. Finally, a number of new variables were found that expanded previous understandings of perceived news quality. This study was limited by several factors - firstly, a lack of english as a first language which may have resulted in misunderstandings. Secondly, the articles utilized were found to have several shortcomings during the research procedure. Finally, due to the qualitative nature of this study, its findings are non-generalizable.

The Role of Social Media Influencers in Saudis' Domestic Destination Choice

This study aims to find out the impact of the credibility and content quality of social media influencers on the various stages of the customer's journey and the intention to choose a destination for the Saudi tourist. The target segment was Saudis in general, who are 18 years or above. To conduct this study, 618 usable questionnaires were collected. This study tested twenty-two hypotheses. The result of this study showed that the relationship between content quality, expertise, and similarity was significantly positive with the tourist's desire and information searching. As well, the relationship between the tourist's desire and information searching was significantly positive with the intention of choosing a destination. Conservatism, engagement, and gender were tested as moderators. Conservatism was not significant while the engagement was significant. Gender was only significant in the relationship between content quality and the tourist's desire. This study contributes to information and knowledge in the fields of tourism, hospitality, travel, marketing, tourist behavior, information science, and social media. Researchers and those interested in tourist and customer behavior can benefit from the results of this study. In the industrial field, this study will be very useful to the Saudi government, which has recently begun to rely on tourism and hospitality as a main source of income. As well, the study can be beneficial for tourism, hospitality and travel companies, hotels, restaurants, marketers of tourist destinations, and workers in the field of tourism and hospitality in general to know the best ways to attract tourists through social media influencers.

This Master degree thesis deals with content quality regulation and motivation to participate in the Scuk.cz project - web server dedicated to reviews of restaurants and other culinary venues. The server represents a specific case of user-generated content (UGC) whose content comes from closed community of reviewers chosen among non-professional food lovers by the server's founder. Aim of this thesis is to describe this filtration and regulation process as well as the qualitative criteria applied to reviewers and reviews, both from the point of view of administrators and community members. It uses the theory of reputation systems as well as Carpentier's more dynamic concept of quality as the ever-changing result of democratic negotiations (in the context of community media, as Scuk.cz can be to a certain extent). Motivations for participation are explained with Bourdieu's concepts of social and cultural capital and their later derivations. Empirical part of the study is based on qualitative interviews with administrators and 11 community members and following thematical analysis. Interview data are completed with analysis of texts - Scuk guidelines, reviews and other community communication. Voluntary environmental reporting: the why, what and how

Society is increasingly calling for organisations to demonstrate corporate social responsibility (CSR). To fulfil this demand, organisations need to be accountable, democratic and transparent to their stakeholders. This can be achieved using a number of tools including communication about the environmental, social and economic impacts of an organisation’s actions and activities. Yet despite the importance of communicating environmental information, and society’s heightened environmental awareness, organisations are still demonstrating an insufficient commitment to environmental reporting, continuing their reluctance to be open and accountable about their environmental impacts. This suggests organisations currently have little understanding of why they should report, what they should report and/or how they should report. For environmental reporting progress to be achieved it is important that we have knowledge of how various factors influence voluntary environmental reporting engagement. This research, in contributing to and extending the body of environmental reporting knowledge, aims to provide an understanding of the Why, What and How of voluntary environmental reporting by specifically examining: why organisations should, and why organisations do, voluntarily report environmental information; what environmental information organisations should, and what environmental information organisations do, voluntarily report; and how organisations should, and how organisations do, voluntarily report environmental information. In using a combination of research methodologies this research extends prior CSR reporting studies – closing the gap between voluntary environmental reporting practice and theory, providing better insights into the underlying reasons and motivations for voluntary environmental reporting, and providing improved knowledge of the considerations made by companies as part of the voluntary environmental reporting process. In doing so, this research presents a more recent examination of voluntary environmental reporting in the annual reports of New Zealand and Australian publicly listed companies. Aspects of voluntary environmental reporting that have not been extensively examined before, particularly in Australasia, are examined. These include a focus on content-quality (as opposed to reporting quantity), an investigation of the effect of public pressure (using a combination of three proxy measures), and, through the use of qualitative research, an expansion of the insights obtained from quantitative data. This research finds that New Zealand and Australian publicly listed companies continue to have an insufficient and incorrect understanding of why they should report, what they should report and/or how they should voluntarily report environmental information. This deficient understanding results in voluntary environmental reporting in their annual reports which is inadequate – the reporting lacks meaning and purpose (i.e. has form but little or no substance), and reflects managers’ incorrect perceptions about the environmental impact of their company’s actions and activities. As a result voluntary environmental reporting in the annual reports of New Zealand and Australian publicly listed companies fails to “… give an understanding, which is not misleading, …” of the environmental consequences of an organisation’s actions and activities (adapted from Alexander & Jermakowicz, 2006, p. 132), providing little accountability to stakeholders, and serving neither external stakeholders nor those reporting well. As the demand for organisations to demonstrate accountability to stakeholders continues to increase over time it is important to develop informed environmental reporting guidance and undertake further examinations of the Why, What and How of environmental reporting.
