The relation between critical success factors and requirements on document management

Rinaldo, Pontus January 2016 (has links)
This report is investigating the relation between critical success factors and requirements on document management. The purpose to know that is if a critical success factors are met by a requirement, the chances to succeed increase and in the long runt hat can save both time and money. Initially a literature research will be conducted to sort out the critical success factors, thereafter a case study will collect the requirements from a business in the constructing sector and finally a comparison between these results will be conducted of the author. The results show that there is a relation between certain factors and certain requirements. Some requirements even fulfil more than one factor and vice versa. For example: the requirement ”Well defined engineering discipline” fulfils ”Defined storage routine”, ”User involvement”, ”Trust to the system” and ”Training and education of users”. Critical success factors for different organizations in construction projects

Inayat, Asfandyar January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Civil Engineering / Hani Melhem / Researchers have been compiling lists of key factors the presence or absence of which have determined the success or failure of projects. Early researches of critical success factors were largely theory based; subsequent researches employed the use of statistics and continuously refined methods like neural network and the analytical hierarchy process. Over the passage of time, the focus has narrowed down from broad generalization of ‘projects’ to ‘project classes’. The thesis can be broadly divided into three components. First Component: The first component (Chapter 1, 2, and 3) leads an insight into the basic concept of success factor studies, and the empirical frameworks adopted for identification of critical success factors. The second and the third component, comprises literature review and original research, respectively. These components pertain to success factor studies of construction projects, and are introduced as below. Second Component: The second component (Chapter 4: Review Component) sets out to choose from among a treasure of resources on construction projects, three such state of the art works that can best explain the progress in search of success factors over a period of the foregoing 25 years. After discussing each work in detail, the reader’s attention is drawn to a collective discussion, and summary towards the end of the Review Component. The review includes the following works: (1) Pinto and Covin, 1989, (2) Ashley et al., 1987, and (3) Kog and Loh, 2011. Pinto and Covin (1989) endeavored to set aside the convenient research trend of treating all project types (Manufacturing, R&D, Construction etc.) as similar. It was felt that management practitioners considered the generalized project management prescriptions offered by researchers as mostly inapplicable to the unique situations posed by their respective classes of projects. Stepwise regression analysis was employed to seek separate sets of CSFs for construction and R&D projects. The choice of these two project types was made as they apparently lied on opposite ends of the spectrum of characteristics. The phases of project lifecycle considered for determining CSFs were conceptualization, planning, execution, and termination. It was concluded that though identification of a set of general critical success factors has some benefits for both academics and practitioners, strict adherence to them would not necessarily ensure project success. It was proved that every project type offers its own set of problems, and that these vary over a project’s lifecycle. The review briefly touches upon the work of Ashley et al. (1987) so as to lead an insight into yet another methodology adopted by CSF researchers. This study views project success from the project managers’ perspective for the owner and contractor organizations they works for, and does not take into consideration the view point of other professionals working for owner, contractor and consultant organizations. Hypothesis testing was employed to find those factors that exhibited strong statistical difference while going from average to outstanding projects. Kog and Loh (2011) studied a possible dissimilarity between CSFs pertaining to different components of construction projects: (1) civil works, (2) architectural works, and (3) mechanical and electrical works. Using the Analytical Hierarchy Process the CSFs were compared separately for the objectives of budget, schedule, quality, and overall performance. They concluded that, on the whole, markedly distinct sets of factors were perceived as crucial by professionals associated with these three components. Apart from their varying job descriptions, the divergence in views of professionals was interpreted to be an outcome of the different frames of time that they mostly work in. While a major portion of civil and structural works would be undertaken in early project-life, mechanical and electrical works, and architectural works would be initiated later in the project’s life. For the three components of construction projects (C&S: civil & structural, M&E: mechanical & electrical, and architectural works), the highest correlation of views was seen to exist between the C&S and M&E, while the lowest was always that between the M&E and the architect. This trend remained the same whether the goal of overall performance or any of the three objectives were taken into consideration. Third Component: The thesis terminates with the original work (Research Component: Chapter 5) conducted by the author in the light of Chua et al. (1999) that had attempted, though very briefly, to distinguish between CSFs for different organizations involved in construction projects. Because the survey sample of Chua et al. (1999) was quite small, the researchers referred to their findings regarding organization-based CSFs as inconclusive. It was suggested that further research be conducted in this regard. Addressing these recommendations, the ‘Research Component’ has differentiated the CSFs based on organizational backgrounds of project participants: consultants, contractors, and project management organizations. Spearman’s test on overall rankings of 40 significant factors results in a highest level of correlation between the managers and contractor personnel (rs=0.54), followed by that between the managers and the consultants (rs=0.50), and a least correlation between the contractor personnel and the consultants (rs=0.19). Managers not only maintain a significant presence on the site with the contractors, but also coordinate with the consultants regarding any design-construction issues that arise more than often during project execution: No wonder why their pivotal position helps the managers to establish a higher understanding with both contractor personnel and consultants. The lowest correlation of views between the contractor personnel and the consultants arise from the spot on difference between their workspace environments. Whereas the contractor personnel operate in the field, the consultants are mostly restricted to their design offices.

Neyra Rujel, Wendy Stefanny, Salas Santos, Hector Walter 20 March 2019 (has links)
The franchise is a business development strategy, both nationally and internationally, which has become more relevant in recent years. Many of the entrepreneurs are taking this business model as a reference as one of the first options to expand to international markets. The present investigation is based on a theme the perception and the objective is to validate that the brand positioned in the country of origin, the quality of the product and the service, the location and an efficient transfer of know-how is made, are perceived by the franchisees as success factors for the entrance to the Peruvian franchises of the gastronomic sector in the Chilean market, in the cities of Santiago de Chile and Antofagasta, to 2018. To achieve the objective of this research, existing literature was reviewed. Likewise, David Edery Muñoz was interviewed, as an expert; who has been working for several years with Peruvian companies seeking to internationalize under the franchise model, currently serving as service export managers in PROMPERU, the scope of the experts was added to the answers in the interviews with the Peruvian franchisors of the gastronomy sector, such as: China Wok, Pardo's Chicken and Hanzo, the validation filter was made in the franchisees in Chile, in the city of Santiago de Chile and Antofagasta. Through a factorial analysis, 3 profiles of franchisees are identified in the Chilean market. The first profile is a franchisee oriented to the operational and functional part of the franchise, the second profile shows a franchisee oriented to the concept of the franchised brand, the objectives of the franchisor and finally the third profile is a franchisee oriented to strategy and sustainability of the franchise in the long term. / Tesis

Critical success factors for conducting Software Process Improvement in Very Small Entities

Yang, Kuankuan, Cai, Ye January 2019 (has links)
Background. It is significant to constantly change and improve the software process to thrive in the software market with rapidly changing requirement and situation. However, very small entities(VSEs) have difficulties to adopt software process improvement that have played an important role in software market, because they usually have some unique characteristics, such as informal and fewer documents, tight budget, and less human resources. Therefore, we believe it is necessary to study factors that are crucial to successful conducting SPI, to help inexperienced VSEs with limited resource implement SPI with reasonable cost. Objectives. The overall aim of our research is to analyse critical success factors about successfully conduct software process improvement for Very Small Entities. The objectives are based on the aim as following: 1) Identifying the special characteristics of VSEs which related to conducting SPI, 2) Identifying the state-of-the-art critical success factors when VSEs conducting SPI both in literature and practice: verifying and prioritizing the factors, and 3) Investigating the strategies that VSEs can take in order to successfully implement SPI. Methods. In order to investigate the critical factors and barriers need to focus and avoid during the improvement, we implemented a systematic literature review as the first phase. Then a survey questionnaire as the second phase to validate the results gained from the systematic literature review through consulting industrial software engineers. Results. The final result includes 80 success factors which have been mentioned at least once in the primary studies, a few characteristics of VSEs and strategies for SPI in VSEs. Among the 80 factors, we chose 29 factors as CSFs that were mentioned more than three times, then selected the first 15 CSFs as survey questions material. Through the survey, we gathered the evaluation of all factors from two areas and some suggestion or opinion of SPI in VSEs, explained the 29 CSFs and two ranking tables about top factors from the SLR and the survey, discussed 14 CSFs from both ranking tables, then provided specific strategies for each of the common 8 factors. Conclusions. For helping VSEs that intend to conduct SPI with limited resources, we answered our research questions through SLR and Survey, found 29 state-of-the-art success factors of SPI in VSEs, ranked 15 of them and provided a description, discussion, and strategies. Selected and prioritised success factors would be supportive for VSEs to ration their budget. Furthermore, we hope we can inspire VSEs who are having trouble to implement SPI by providing strategies.

Ramverket ITIL : En studie av viktiga aspekter vid implementationen / ITIL framework : A study of key aspects of implementation

Lindblom, Samuel, Mukaca, Selma January 2018 (has links)
Technical developments are increasing at an accelerated rate, which means that IT service providers must focus on customer relationships and the quality of services they provide in the same way they handle their strategic features and processes. The management of IT services is often related to IT Service Management (ITSM) that helps IT organizations become more adaptable, flexible, cost-effective and service-oriented. ITIL is the most accepted and used process reference model within ITSM. However, many organizations experience difficulties in implementing the framework. Much of ITIL's research is about understanding, identifying and determining which factors have the greatest impact on a successful implementation. Previous research shows that there are three key aspects that all success factors fall within: senior management involvement, organizational commitment and group efficiency. Much of the research, however, has a qualitative character and takes the form of case studies, which are limited in their contributions. However, several case studies combined together can contribute to an increased understanding in the field because they can confirm or contradict other studies. This study aims to explore whether and, if so, how the above-mentioned aspects have influenced an ITIL implementation on a medium-sized IT company. The method used was a qualitative method that took the form of a case study and with semi-structured interviews, it revealed that all aspects affected the implementation in different ways and that there was an interaction between them. The senior management involvement influenced the implementation process by providing the project group with support in the form of necessary resources, enabling implementation. The management's absence also affected the implementation process, more specifically its scope, which made process use being limited to only one specific customer at the beginning, but also the use of inappropriate tools for the implemented processes. Group efficiency had influenced the implementation process, with an emphasis on understanding why the changing work methods results in better structure. This understanding was valued higher than the "traditional hard education", but also experience and knowledge in the field of work where the process acts, was considered a contributing factor. Understanding that change in work methods leads to better structure established an organizational commitment. This research contributes with increased knowledge of implementation factors in ITIL.

Implantações de sistemas ERP em cloud computing: um estudo sobre os fatores críticos de sucesso em organizações brasileiras / Implementations of ERP on cloud computing: a study on the critical success factors in Brazilian organizations

Oliveira, Eduardo Thomazim de 05 December 2012 (has links)
The history of ERP\'s systems starts in 90 years with the adoption by large corporations. Its use has intensified since then as well as additional features, in order to integrate the company\'s management processes within and outside the traditional physical space. Since its adoption by organizations have been leveraged in order to reduce costs, but, just the cost of its implementation has been a limiter. The usability of ERP on cloud computing proves a viable alternative because it reduces a number of deployment costs. However, the implementation of ERP in cloud computing brings influences on the format in which the ERP is implemented, as well as modify the relevant factors (critical success) of their deployment and use. This paper analyzes the critical success factors in the existing literature and how these were relevant in cloud computing deployments made in 3 companies studied. It is then a case study carried out from a set of interviews applied to those responsible for implementing internally and externally in three Brazilian companies midsize segments of operation and different systems deployed. This paper presents concepts related to ERP systems and the critical success factors available in the literature, as well as a characterization of this new cloud computing environment and the relationship with existing ERP implementations already registered. From these results, other studies may follow the evolution of cloud computing ERP connected to or from a larger installed base, segment analysis and even consolidate deployment methodologies for this new format. Because it is a case study, the findings can\'t be generalized to all organizations, moreover, that there are few suppliers and few ERP implementations in the format cloud computing, as it is a very recent technology, provide another limitation for this study.

This research addresses the Maritime Support Industry through a strategic vision. This is a problem related to the identification and mapping of Critical Success Factors (CSFs). The maritime support industry is an important segment of the oil chain since it participates from the early stages, involving the prospecting of a field, to the end of its useful life by deactivating the oil wells. The present thesis proposes to analyze the maritime support industry, characterizing the most important and impacting aspects, through the identification of the CSFs, development of a framework from the CSFs for the improvement of the decision making by the companies and also the modeling of the Strategic map of the industry. Through interviews with ship-owner, experts from the area, company website data and industry yearbooks, the study identified 68 CSFs. The identified critical factors were submitted to 28 companies, through a structured questionnaire (Likert scale of 5 points). The analyzes, through descriptive statistics and correlation tests, identified the most sensitive CSFs to the industry. In addition to the contribution, a framework was also proposed for the analysis of the distribution of CSFs and the focus on urgent improvements, focus on innovation, focus on project capture and focus on sector leadership. An analysis was also made of the CNI\'s Industry Strategic Map for the Maritime Support Industry. Finally, the main results showed a sensitivity of the sector to the variables related to policies (industrial / governmental), finance and the need to develop innovation throughout the supply chain.

Fatores críticos de sucesso na gestão de projetos colaborativos de desenvolvimento de máquinas agrícolas: um estudo de caso / Critical success factors in the administration of collaborative projects of development of agricultural machines: a case study

Reame Júnior, Euclides 01 September 2008 (has links)
The collaborative projects of development are one of the main tools in order to agricultural machines companies get to increase the innovation degree in products, allowing them to follow the new challenges of a more competitive market. There is in the literature several works that identify critical success factors (CSF) for collaborative projects; however, there are not many studies about the verification of those factors in Brazil, especially in the agricultural machinery industry. The aim of this work is to verify if identified CSF in the literature could be used in that context. A bibliographical revision was undertaken to identify the \"critical success factors\" in collaborative projects of development of products and a revision on agricultural machines industry in order to understand the specificities of that section in Brazil. After that it has taken place a survey in a company of that sector, with high level of maturity in development of measured product according to Simões (2007), to verify if identified CSF could be used in surveys in that sector and to verify if there were any other factors to be considered, specific for that segment and field. A case study was used and the units of analysis are collaborative projects accomplished successfully by the company. Two projects development of products were analyzed, with different kinds of partner: one with a customer and the other with a supplying company. Besides the interviews it has taken visits to the companies in order to know the analyzed projects. There are factors described that could not be critical; the results indicate the existence of new critical factors and they confirm the importance of equality and universal factors as critical for collaborative projects. The main contribution of these projects is a list of critical factors of success that one can serve as initial step for general survey in this field.

Critical success factors for productivity and competitiveness: a multi-case study at the shipbuilding pole of Vale do Itajaí.

Francisco, João Luiz 23 October 2017 (has links)
The main objective of this work was to evaluate the presence and understanding how are developed the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) to productivity and competitiveness of shipbuilding in the Vale do Itajaí - SC. As specific objectives, it sought to identify which CSFs can collaborate for a shipyard\'s productivity and competitiveness, which of its CSFs should be improved and to recognize the degree of importance of the CSFs of this industry according to a shipyard managers\' view. Also it was analyzed if the shipyards have in their manufacturing process elements of the lean thinking production . The present study consists of a qualitative and exploratory research, being the research method used in the case study. For data collection, representatives of shipbuilding in the Vale do Itajaí were interviewed. The direct observation was made from the Rapid Plant Assessment (RPA), developed by Goodson (2002). It can be concluded with respect to the CSFs that can collaborate for a productivity and competitiveness of the shipyards that it is essential to have government policies that foster the growth of the industry and that it has suppliers located in the Vale do Itajaí. Partnerships between universities and technical colleges for a generation of manpower are also needed. In relation to the FSCs that need to be improved, it should be noted that there are few partnerships for the development of new technologies between shipyards and their supply chain, as well as for shipyards and universities and research centers. Information management must also be improved. No shipbuilding recorder in formal or known form and experiences of its employees. Regarding important factors to the development of shipyards in the shipbuilding industry of the Vale Itajaí, they received their maximum declarations or the establishment of representatives with suppliers for long periods and the receipt of the resources of the Merchant Marine Fund. In relation to analyze if the shipyards has in its fabrication process elements of lean manufacturing, it was verified low adequacy.
