Old master, new neighbor : Putin's Russia in the Czech foreign policy discourse

Beauduin, Adrien January 2013 (has links)
BEAUDUIN, Adrien. Old Master, New Neighbour: Putin's Russia in the Czech Foreign Policy Discourse. Master thesis. Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Insitute of International Studies. Supervisor Dr.Jiří Vykoukal, 2013. Abstract The return to democracy in Central-Eastern Europe (CEE) and the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 did not mean that CEE-Russian relations could start anew. This dissertation uses post-structuralist discourse analysis and takes the case of the Czech Republic to examine the development of the Czech official foreign policy discourse towards Russia between 2001 and 2009. Looking at the history of opinions on Russia in the Czech lands and analyzing five events or periods of the 2000s, the present works tracks the evolution of the Russia's identity as constructed by the official Czech discourse. On the official level, the influence of Russia's image on the construction of the Czech identity is also analyzed. The results showed a worsening of relations after 2006 and suggest that the image of the 'Russian threat' has not disappeared from the political discourse in the Czech Republic. Moreover, the Czech official foreign policy discourse constructed the image of the Czech Republic as anchored in its Euroatlantic and European orientation.

Česká strana státoprávně pokroková (1908-1918) / Czech Constitutional Progressive Party

Tomeš, Josef January 2013 (has links)
The Czech Constitutional Progressive Party (1908-1918) The Czech Constitutional Progressive Party represents in many aspects a unique phenomenon of the Czech politics in the last years before the outbreak of WWI and during the dramatic war period afterwards. Although it did not belong to massive and influential parties, it played a significant role on the political scene at that time with a part of a solitary, represented by many distinctive individualities. It existed for only ten years, six years out of it in standard peace conditions, but in a time of breaking historical events and decisions it made itself be heard in such an important way that it left a remarkable trace in the Czech history of the 20th century. It was created in April 1908 by merging two parties, a Radical Progressive Party and a Constitutional Party (or rather a Radical Constitutional Party) that had been established at the very end of the 19th century following a disintegration and a political differentiation of the progressive movement of the 90's. The party took up a progressive legacy by consistently demanding a renewal of the independent Czech state on the basis of the Czech historical constitutional law, political democratisation and welfare reforms. Besides that, the party stood in a firm opposition to the government...

Konstruktivismus ve vyučování českého jazyka na střední škole. / Constructivism in Czech Language Teaching at Higher-Secondary School

Štěpáník, Stanislav January 2014 (has links)
The dissertation explores the opportunities and limits of implementing constructivist elements into Czech language education. While in didactics of mathematics and sciences the perspective of constructivism has been dynamically developing, in language didactics it is an area which has not been satisfactorily dealt with. The effectiveness of a designed constructivist teaching strategy in contrast with a traditional one has been tested on a selected part of content matter of Czech syntax (relations in compound sentences) in the terrain of two classes of higher-secondary school. Constructivist teaching utilizes students' conceptions; therefore before the experiment itself, students' conceptions of the content matter were researched on one selected subject. The outcomes were then taken into account when creating the experimental strategy. It is necessary for teaching Czech that it makes use of the students' preconceptions and their natural language competence, and that teaching has a semantic- functional, or communication approach to the language phenomena taught. The results of the research suggest that it is possible to implement constructivist features into Czech language teaching successfully, and that their effectiveness in certain aspects might be higher than it is with traditional strategies. In any...

Dolanská, Jiřina January 2021 (has links)
Diakonie as one of the most important services combines helping the needy and spiritual support. This service was already established in the early church and it focused on both material and spiritual area. The diploma thesis "The Work of Diaconia" with the subtitle "A Short Overview of the History of Diaconia, Czech Diaconia and Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren" describes diaconia from the point of view of the New Testament where it becomes helping a fellow man with the motivation of faith, i.e. following Jesus Christ. In next parts, diaconia is described from the period of early church until the Reformation. It is followed by the early days of diaconia in the Czech lands, the role of Kaiserswerth institute in Germany where Czech girls studied and some of them then used their knowledge about taking care of the ill and educating in their diaconic activities in the Czech lands. However, many of them continued living abroad. Priest Václav Šubert significantly contributed to the foundation of a first diaconic institution, girls' school or an orphanage in Krabčice, the birthplace of diaconia in the Czech lands. He and our first two deaconesses, Marie Karafiátová and Eleanora Kašparová, occupy more space in this work. In the next part, a historical development of Czech Diaconia...

František Palacký a vliv britského myšlenkové tradice na jeho dílo a myšlení / František Palacký and the Influence of British Tradition of Thought on His Work

Kyllar, Václav January 2021 (has links)
Precis The task of this thesis will be a detailed analysis of the work of František Palacký with emphasis on his political thought. This analysis will be carried out through a comparison with the British tradition of thought, which will be represented by selected thinkers with whom František Palacký came into contact and on the basis of whose ideas he profiled his work and basic concepts of his later political practice. The analysis assumes a thorough knowledge of the work of František Palacký and his British counterparts and the overall philosophical, cultural and political environment in which Palacký became a leading figure of the Czech national revival. The main part of this thesis will focus on the analysis of key texts of František Palacký and British writers who had a major influence on him. We will describe and evaluate this influence in detail in the context of the basic concepts that characterize Palacký's work in its entirety. With this analysis, we will try to deepen our understanding of Czech political thought, František Palacký and his legacy. Methodologically, the work will reflect the interdisciplinary character of Palacký's work and despite its entrenchment in political thought it will also work with a conceptual study of the nation, the national revival, and to some extent aesthetics and...

Recepce slovenského filmu v českém tisku v období 1948 - 1969 (se zvláštním zřetelem ke zobrazení Němců) / Reception of Slovak Czech film in the Press in the period 1948 - 1969 (with special attention to the image of the Germans)

Racik, Marek January 2016 (has links)
My thesis focuses on the reception of Slovak fiction film in the Czech press from 1948, the year when Slovakia started to produce their own fiction films regularly, until 1969, when the social changes after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops ended the whole period. There was a notion in the Czech society that Czechoslovak film is a Czech film and the thesis focuses on this notion as it was understood by the Czech film critics. My goal is to find and explain, when and how the Czech film journalism started to recognize the differences inside the Czechoslovak film and pointed out the unique identity of the Slovak film in the Czech press. Furthermore, I examine how the Slovak film was rated by Czech film critics in the Czech film scholar press, film magazines and newspapers. The first part of the thesis examines the Czech-Slovak relations in the light of newly established Slovak fiction film. The second part focuses on the complex approach of the Czech film critical journals towards Slovak film, influenced by the state power between the years 1948 - 1960. The third part reflects the appearance of the topics concerning SNP and the so called Slovak New Wave, which lasted during two separate periods between the years 1960 - 1969. Luděk Pik: politický portrét významného plzeňského starosty / Luděk Pik: political profile of eminent mayor of Pilsen

Bartoš, Jakub January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the thesis: to capture the life of the Czech social democratic politician and former mayor of Pilsen, Luděk Pik, with a specific focus on his political activities in the city. This thesis also aims to understand and clarify Pik's relation to Pilsen and the relevance to his life, as well as his essential role in the history of this West Bohemian metropolis. Luděk Pik (18. 5. 1876 Prague - 19. 4. 1948 Pilsen) lived in Pilsen for almost five decades of his life (1901-1948), except the period during the Nazi occupation (1939- 1945). Since 1901 he worked in Pilsen for the Czechoslavonic Social Democratic Workers Party, where he quickly became the local party elite. At the end of the World War I he participated in the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak state. In 1919-1938 he served continuously as mayor of the city of Pilsen and significantly contributed to its modernization and development. He also sat in Cisleithanian and Czechoslovakian legislatures. After the Munich Treaty he was forced to stand down from his political status and was persecuted during the Nazi occupation. The post-war situation prevented his return to a public life. His memoirs and especially his literary works demonstrate his strong patriotic relation to this city. Luděk Pik represents, in modern history of...

Medializace měnové odluky a vzniku české koruny v roce 1993 / Medialization of the monetary separation and the Czech koruna formation in 1993

Šimečková, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes an unexplored field of study - the medialization of the monetary separation and Czech koruna formation in February 1993. The thesis maps Czech media discourse devoted to this theme and answers the question whether the media, through its contents, could contribute to a positive perception and acceptance of this fundamental economic reform that actually completed the dissolution of Czechoslovakia process on January 1, 1993. For this purpose the thesis uses the qualitative research methods, the semiotic analysis and the discourse analysis. The introduction briefly outlines the sociopolitical situation in the country. The theoretical part describes the role of money and monetary policy, the technical preparation of the currency separation, including a new series of banknotes, and outlines Czech media trends after the 1989. The methodological part contains specific objectives, research questions and widely presents the selected research methods. The practical part analyzes media contents devoted to the currency separation in Czech newspapers Blesk (Flash), Hospodářské noviny (Economic Newspaper), MF Dnes (Today), Rudé právo (Red Law) and selected program of Česká televize (Czech Television) in the first quarter of the year 1993.
