Sudková, Marcela January 2011 (has links)
This MA thesis explores the means of expressing interpersonal function in Czech and English academic texts. These expressions are found at various levels (e.g. lexical, grammatical and lexico-grammatical) and our classification takes into account both formal and functional point of view. From the various approaches to meadiscourse we have chosen the integrative approach subsuming both interpersonal and textual features of metadiscouse. However, this thesis focuses mainly on the interpersonal features. In the first part of the thesis, a detailed analysis of four academic texts was performed in order to get a range of expressions for the controlling search. The aim of the controlling search was to verify the findings from the detailed analysis and to find out to what extent the selected expressions were represented in a larger set of data. For this search we gathered twenty academic articles dealing with linguistics, ten per each language. Despite the different language types, Czech and English use similar means to express interpersonal features of metadiscourse. The greatest difference was found in the category of relational markers and self-mentions, other categories displayed relatively similar frequencies. Key words: metadiscourse, interpersonal function, Czech, English, academic register,...

Právní a ekonomické aspekty přímých zahraničních investic a jejich historický vývoj / Legal and economic aspects of foreign direct investment and historical evolution

Merenda, David January 2011 (has links)
The aim of the present thesis is to introduce the topic of foreign direct investment (FDI) from the multiscience (multidiscipline) perspective. FDI is a phenomena that cuts across many fields of human activity. It is of major significance for the national economies and an important factor for the global economic growth. Although these characteristics of FDI are widely known today, it was not always the case in the past. Since the sixties, it has been a focus of deeper studies and an object of interest especially for the international organizations that supervise the global economy. As each socio-economic phenomena, the issue of FDI has its historical background and this thesis seeks to comprehend this subject and further tracks the emergence of the business climate and economical processes that show the characteristics of later defined FDI. The historical formation of FDI is related to qualitative and quantitative development of the phenomena, and to its temporal and geopolitical context. The thesis presents the most relevant factors and causes of the present state of FDI, and monitors the crucial moments of the elements contributing to the evolution of the international investment environment. A more detailed study is devoted to Central European countries, since their specific development after...

Rozšíření kočky divoké (Felis silvestris) v ČR / geomatické modelování a ekologický přístup / Distribution of wildcat (Felis silvestris) in Czech Republic / geomatic modelling and ecological approach

Pospíšková, Jana January 2015 (has links)
Population of the European wildcat (Felis silvestris) are slowly recovering after a severe decline in the 18th century. The wildcat was a rare species already on the beginning of 19th century on the territory of Czech Republic. During the 20th century the species was considered to be extinct and the scarce records to be individuals dispersed from Carpathian or West-European population. Furthermore there was lack of evidence to this observations. With the expansion of photo monitoring methods, there comes pictures of wildcats from the Beskid Mountains, Bohemian Forest, The upper Palatine Forest and Doupov mountains. After more than 60 years there is finely a proof for the presence of wildcats in Czech Republic. To understand its space requirements and dispersion context, and to know if there is a place for wildcats to live in Czech Republic, we made a habitat model in ArcGIS. This rule-based model works with attributes like land cover type, duration of snow cover, aspect and the vertical heterogeneity of terrain. The model was applied also for Slovakia, because the evaluation data only comes from Slovakia. We found out that the occurence of wildcats in the model territory relate to broad-leaf forests, duration of snow cover (>20cm) not exceeding 50 days and the southern exposure. In Czech Republic there is...

Education and Crime: A Panel Data Analysis of the Czech Republic

Lin, Hsin-I January 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the relationship between crime and education, as well as macroeconomic and demographic factors such as police efficiency, GDP per capita, employment rate, population density, age and sexual composition of the society. We use the data of fourteen regions of the Czech Republic from 2000 to 2012. First, we apply the fixed-effect model in the data analysis, and further we use GMM for the estimation of new dynamic panel dataset. In addition, taking the possible time effects into account, we also add the time dummies in both regression models. Our finding finds the unexpectedly positive effects of secondary education with A-level exam, GDP per capita and the proportion of population aged 30-59 years old on most of criminal offences. On the other hand, the male ratio in population and the clearance rate are found to influence crimes negatively. Higher education and employment rate are also found to be related negatively with economic crimes. Although the chronological framework, which is determined as the last decade before the beginning of the revolution of 1848 in Bohemia, the main content of the thesis focuses on the timeless problem of the past and present development of the Bohemian/Czech society in that way, in which it is understanded within the conservative approach, i. e. as a social framework for the free progress of the constituent individuals, whose individual development is depended on the mutual interaction of the individuals in the whole society. Making use of the metaphysical construct of the catholic priest Václav Frost, the author attempts to reveal the main conditions of the possible unification of the society, and with the focus on the Czech- German question, also to define the main causes of the national conflict in Bohemia. The fundamental proposition of the...
