Previous issue date: 2012-09-10 / Studies on the effects of changes in biodiversity and ecosystem functioning have been a central theme in ecology over the past two decades. Several studies have showed that the diversity of plant debris differently affects the decomposition process in aquatic and terrestrial environments, but we know very about the effects of detritus diversity on decomposition under fluctuating environmental conditions. We tested whether and how the environmental contexts, as well as the dynamic of their alternation, influence the effects of detritus diversity on the decomposition process. We performed a field experiment where we manipulate the litter diversity of 8 species of terrestrial plants decomposing (litterbags) in single and in mixture containing the eight species together in three different environmental contexts: the terrestrial environment (T), aquatic (A) and interface (I) - experimental treatment that simulates variation in flooding regime. We measured the rate of decomposition through the loss of mass of the community and each individual detritus in monocultures and mixtures. Species richness and environmental variability had no effects on the magnitude and stability of the decomposition process. However, there were significant diversity effects on the decomposition of an individual alien species, F. benjamina. Environmental context had significant effects on the magnitude and variability of decomposition. Detritus decomposition was faster and more variable on aquatic, interface and terrestrial conditions, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the diversity of plant detritus has minor effects to the decomposition across disparate environmental conditions and suggest that it is necessary to consider the potential of other abiotic factors in affect the magnitude and variability of the decomposition processes / O estudo a respeito dos efeitos de altera??es da biodiversidade sobre o funcionamento dos ecossistemas tem sido um tema central na ecologia ao longo das duas ?ltimas d?cadas.

A decomposição de detritos foliares de espécies nativas e exótica e a colonização de macroinvertebrados em um riacho tropical localizado na Floresta Nacional de Ipanema, SP, Brasil / The leaf litter decomposition in native and exotic species and the macro invertebrate colonization in a tropical river placed in the Floresta Nacional de Ipanema, SP, BrazilSuarez Robayo, Heidi Marcela 01 July 2016 (has links)
The crumbled vegetation has positive effects on water quality in a low river. The crop plants and replacement of native species by exotic species, has significant effects and impacts on biodiversity of aquatic and terrestrial environments. Eucalyptus cultivation occupies areas of biological and environmental importance, causing impacts that are still poorly studied, interfering with the operation of the waterways that depend on available vegetable waste on the banks of rivers as a source of energy and nutrients. This study compared the decomposition of leaves of native species (Inga marginata and Matayba elaeagnoides) and leaves of an exotic species (Eucalyptus grandis) during the dry and rainy seasons in a river located within of the Floresta Nacional de Ipanema, conservation unit located in the southeastern state of São Paulo. For the comparison, the litter bags method was used. Thus, networks of plastic coarse mesh with an opening of 10 mm maximum were used for periods of 60 days. In this period the colonization of bentic macroinvertebrates in each of the treatments was also evaluated. Between the seasons (dry and rainy), losses of plant mass were different among different species of evaluated plants (Inga marginata, Matayba elaeagnoides and Eucalyptus grandis), considering that the loss of leaves of Inga marginata was higher, followed by the Eucalyptus grandis and Matayba elaeagnoides leaves. As a result, the loss of mass in the rainy season was evident. Thus, 801 individuals that colonized the three treatments evaluated in the dry season and 556 individuals that colonized treatments in the rainy season were identified. As consequence, there is a relationship between the values of loss of plant material and abundance of macroinvertebrates organisms for each of the treatments. The treatments with higher losses those who had higher values of colonized organisms. The largest mass loss values for Inga marginata sheet was higher in comparison of other treatments as well as presenting the greatest amount of aquatic macroinvertebrates colonized in the two seasons evaluated. The most representative families were: Chironomidae, Hyalellidae, Gomphidae, Calamoceratidae, Leptophlebiidae and Elmidae. Thus, the functional groups with the largest presence were collectors and predators groups, with no significant differences in the presence of these groups, the shredder group was the third most representative group for the three treatments and two periods evaluated. In this type of tropical environment, the community of fungi and bacteria is abundant and diverse, making of this biological process, an important aspect for the transformation of leaves in a resource ease of assimilation for its use, allowing these to become more accessible for invertebrate organisms. Considering the previous information, this allowed the Eucalyptus leaves transform in a resource available for consumption of organisms and being able to be as an additional resource for biota and organisms adapting to the assimilation of this resource. Thus, the presence of Eucalyptus leaves can influence the colonization of invertebrate organisms, it may interfere with the natural process of colonization of aquatic macroinvertebrates and altering the availability of nutrients in the food chains of these aquatic ecosystems.

Service Oriented System Design Through Process DecompositionAkbiyik, Eren Kocak 01 September 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Although service oriented architecture has reached a particular maturity level especially in the technological dimension, there is a lack of common and acceptable approach to design a software system through composition and integration of web services. In this thesis, a service oriented system design approach for Service Oriented Architecture based software development is introduced to fill this gap. This new methodology basically offers a procedural top-down decomposition of a given software system allowing several abstraction levels. At the higher levels of the decomposition, the system is divided into abstract nodes that correspond to process models in the decomposition tree. Any node is a process and keeps the sequence and the state information for the possible sub-processes in this decomposition tree. Nodes which are defined as process models may include some sub-nodes to present details for the intermediate levels of the model. Eventually at the leaf level, process models are decomposed into existing web services as the atomic units of system execution. All processes constructing the system decomposition tree are modeled with BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) to expose the algorithmic details of the design. This modeling technique is also supported with a graphical modeling language referred to as SOSEML (Service Oriented Software Engineering Modeling Language) that is also newly introduced in this thesis.

An Approach For Including Business Requirements To Soa DesignOcakturk, Murat 01 February 2010 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, a service oriented decomposition approach: Use case Driven Service Oriented Architecture (UDSOA), is introduced to close the gap between business requirements and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) design by including business use cases and system use cases into decomposition process. The approach is constructed upon Service Oriented Software Engineering (SOSE) modeling technique and aims to fill the deficits of it at the decomposition phase. Further, it aims to involve both business vision and Information Technologies concerns in the decomposition process. This approach starts with functional top-down decomposition of the domain. Then, business use cases are used for further decomposition because of their high-level view. This connects the business requirements and our SOA design. Also it raises the level of abstraction which allows us to focus on business services. Second step of the SOA approach uses system use cases to continue decomposition. System use cases help discovering technical web services and allocating them on the decomposition tree. Service oriented analysis also helps separating business and technical services in tightly coupled architecture conditions. Those two steps together bring quality in to both problem and solution domains.

Réponse des communautés microbiennes du sol à l'apport de résidus de culture : influence des pratiques agricoles et lien avec le fonctionnement biologique du sol / Response of soil bacterial communities to the incorporation of crop residues : influence of agricultural practices and link with the soil biological processPascault, Noémie 13 July 2010 (has links)
The effect of the location of wheat residues (soil surface vs. incorporated in soil) on their decomposition and on soil bacterial communities was investigated by the means of a field experiment. Bacterial-Automated Ribosomal Intergenic Spacer Analysis (B-ARISA) of DNA extracts from residues, detritusphere (soil adjacent to residues), and bulk soil evidenced that residues constitute the zone of maximal changes in bacterial composition. However, the location of the residues influenced greatly their decomposition and the dynamics of the colonizing bacterial communities. Sequencing of 16S rRNA gene in DNA extracts from the residues at the early, middle, and late stages of degradation confirmed the difference of composition of the bacterial community according to the location. Bacteria belonging to the -subgroup of proteobacteria were stimulated when residues were incorporated whereas the -subgroup was stimulated when residues were left at the soil surface. Moreover, Actinobacteria were more represented when residues were left at the soil surface. According to the ecological attributes of the populations identified, our results suggested that climatic fluctuations at the soil surface select populations harboring enhanced catabolic and/or survival capacities whereas residues characteristics likely constitute the main determinant of the composition of the bacterial community colonizing incorporated residues. Microbial communities are of major importance in the decomposition of soil organic matter. However, the identities and dynamics of the populations involved are still poorly documented. We investigated, in a eleven-month field experiment, how the initial biochemical quality of crop residues could lead to specific decomposition patterns, linking biochemical changes undergone by the crop residues to the respiration, biomass and genetic structure of the soil microbial communities. Wheat, alfalfa and rape residues were incorporated into the 0-15 cm layer of the soil of field plots by tilling. Biochemical changes in the residues occurring during degradation were assessed by near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Qualitative modifications in the genetic structure of the bacterial communities were determined by Bacterial-Automated Ribosomal Intergenic Spacer Analysis (B-ARISA). Bacterial diversity in the three crop residues at early and late stages of decomposition process was further analyzed from a molecular inventory of the 16S rDNA. The decomposition of plant residues in croplands was shown to involve specific biochemical characteristics and microbial communities dynamics which were clearly related to the quality of the organic inputs. Decay stage and seasonal shifts occurred by replacement of copiotrophic populations/bacterial groups such as proteobacteria successful on younger residues with those successful on more extensively decayed material such as Actinobacteria. However, relative abundance of proteobacteria depended greatly on the composition of the residues, with a gradient observed from alfalfa to wheat, suggesting that this bacterial group may represent a good indicator of crop residues degradability and modifications during the decomposition process...

How shall we understand that a new born baby full of life and ready to embrace humanity might become one day a serial killer ? The purpose of this thesis is to study the psychogenesis of the serial killer violence through the analysis of the five key stages which are structuring human devel-opment : archaic stage, childish stage, latency stage, teenage & adult stages. This work is based on a clinical case and experts’ documents. My work is starting with a comparison with the clinical analysis of a genocide, which is de-fining serial killers’ criminality as a crime against humankind, and therefore leading us to rebuilding the different steps of their humanity breakdown process. The context, in which this criminality is emerging, lays in the confluence with a ruthless parental environment which has disorganized both the baby’s ownership of the genetically inherited human identity and the construction of a subjective identity. The serial killer criminality is considered as a “defense organization” aimed at protecting against a specific “primitive agony” (or “unthinkable anxiety”) which has “offended” the baby’s potential to humanity – in line with D.W. Winnicott’s theories. The serial killer’s violence is studied using a custom made theoretical and clinical construction, but it is also considered in the wider scope of human inhumanity. More importantly, this thesis aims at providing analysis and understanding which are accessible to neophyte readers looking for answers (victims and their families, field experts not used to psychoanalytic terminology).
