"O caráter penoso da odontologia e seus reflexos na jornada de trabalho do cirurgião-dentista" / The heavy physical and mental strain, a particular character of the dental occupation, and its consequences in the hours of work of the dentistDaniela Reiko Yoshida 21 June 2005 (has links)
The purpose of the present study was to analyze the dentist working hours by different aspects. The factors that justify the hours limitation in the labor history had been approached, such as those ones which allowed a reduction of hours of work, less than the constitutional limit, for some specific occupations that, due to the special working conditions, were considered arduous and exhausting professions. The legislation related to this subject had been analyzed, in particular the law 3.999/61, since its is the source of legal discussions and conflicting decisions in the Judiciary, whereas some jurists consider that such law would be stipulating a reduction of hours of work for physicians and dentists. Its important to emphasize that, nowadays, whereas the jurisprudential orientation, edition 53, of the Tribunal Superior do Trabalho, the subject is settled in this superior court, according to the common sense which the cited law does not determine a reduced working hours. Despite of this orientation, this present study, through a survey of publications that were related to the risks and occupational diseases for the dentists, as well as arguments that justify the reduction of hours of work for others activities, attempted to demonstrate that the profession fulfill the requirements for the concession of this benefit. This singularity, concerning the professionals physical and psychic exhaustion, justifies, therefore, a distinct treatment.

Provider Appearance: a survey of guardian and patient preferenceWestphal, Joshua 01 January 2017 (has links)
Purpose: To understand guardian and child preferences for the appearance of their pediatric dentist. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study using survey methodology with patients and parents that attended the VCU Pediatric Dental clinic.
Methods: A total sample of 100 guardians and 97 pediatric patient participants completed the computer-based questionnaire. Four subjects were asked to pose for photographs wearing various combinations of attire (professional, casual, white coat, scrubs).
Results: Among guardians, 56% reported preferring a provider in scrubs, with white coat the second most preferred attire (39%) for their children. For pediatric patients, scrubs were still most often selected, but at a lower rate (43%). White coat remained the second most preferred option at 37%.
Conclusions: Children and parents have strong perceptions and preferences regarding their dentists’ attire. The results of this study can be used, by providers, to improve the comfort, and acceptance of care by patients and guardians.

Portable Space and Interior Design for DentistsLiu, Yu-Ping 01 January 2007 (has links)
In the United State today, many people do not have access to adequate dental treatment, while tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease-five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever. At the same time, studies show that 80% of dental illness takes place in 25% of the population, which is comprised mostly of lower socioeconomic groups. A study undertaken by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2000, concludes that poor children suffer five times as much tooth decay as their more affluent peers. Furthermore, in poor children with tooth decay, almost 80% remain untreated. Poor dental health there-fore is a major health concern for under privileged families. The goal of this project is to enhance and facilitate the delivery of better dental treatment by designing a new prototype for a portable dental office that will be more flexible and more usable in a variety of situations and locations. For the purpose of this study, this prototype will be considered or tested within the context of three different types of spaces: the single closed room; a large open public space; and within mobile and nonpermanent structures such as tents. Several aspects of working conditions specific to the dental office will be taken into account when developing this design including transportability, degree of flexibility, storability, hygiene, and the creation of a relaxing atmosphere all of which greatly impact both the dentists and patients experience and are essential to the creation of a successful portable dental office.

January 1997 (has links)
Isto induziu a concepção anatômica de empunhaduras perpendiculares às extremidades das hastes, resultando em instrumento eficiente e eficaz, conforme indicado em sua fase de experimentação / Abstract: Ergonomics, the science of working rationalization, seeks the best relationship between man and his working tools. In Dentistry, ergonomics is present as for the professional working correctly seated, in functional comfort, intervening of supine position patient, by means of suitable equipment and instrument. Nowadays, dental equipment is justly rationalized; however, some instruments should take shape, in order to adapt those requirements. The hand tool design should permit a comfortable, non-slip and safe handling. Thus, anatomical details, the correct position of the operator for its use and specific characteristics of application should be taken into account. The instrument under analysis - forceps - was conceived according to these requirements along with a new alveolar tooth extraction technique, based on electromyographic and biomechanical studies. The morphology of the instrument, which makes possible a simple and natural kinetics of the operator, was obtained by changing the paradigm of the conventional cross-action instruments (whose grip is always on the arms of the tool), divesting the "handle" from the "tool arm". This induced on anatomical conceiving of perpendicular handles to the extremity of the tool arm, resulting an efficient and effective instrument, according to indicated on its experimental phase

A study of Business Models for Quality Improvement Programs in Areas Deficient in Oral Medical ResourcesFan, Ming-Hsien 25 August 2011 (has links)
Abstract
Many studies about medial outcomes in rural areas or medial resource deficient areas have been published, but few discuss outcomes in areas deficient in oral medical resources. The program, improving underserved dental health care resources, has been implemented for near ten years, but no study explores the business models in different areas that are underserved dental health care resources. The purpose of this study is to compare different models of operating the program ¡§improving underserved dental health care resources¡¨.
As to the business model, the program ¡§improving underserved dental health care resources¡¨ is executed in two main models. One is execution in fixed sites. The advantage of this model is high stability. Dentals can plan and set the equipments that they need to use. The other is medical tour. The advantage of this model is high flexibility, which let dentals can provide services as far as possible for patients in medial resource deficient areas.
Finally, based on the research findings, this study proposes some suggestions, including that to use the medical-tour model as the major business to implement the program, to carefully assess the site for exestuation need, to consider the financial support on equipments (especially the dental mobile medical vehicle ), to strengthen local infrastructure investment is prior to plunge into health care resources, and so on.
