As for the methodological procedures, an exploratory-descriptivequantitative research has been carried out through structured questionnaires appliedto 118 civil servants from the first groups of the Course for Technicians, thusshowing a margin of error of 4.18% to 95% of confidence, according to theprocedures of finite sampling. The table processing and analysis rested uponthe Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS and was carried outthrough univariate, bivariate and multivariate techniques with emphasis on thetechnique called Factor Analysis. It was possible to identify that the level ofsatisfaction of the students was high and there was a clear perception by themthat the course assisted to changes in their work. Through Factor Analysis itwas verified that the factors that may be related to changes in the work of thecivil servants are "Contribution to Society", "Efficiency andEfficacy in the Work Environment", "Applicability of Contents"and "Capacitating for Leadership". The conclusion of the studyindicates that the factors obtained are directly related to the basis of thenew public management by means of guidance toward efficiency and efficacy in aperspective of leadership, the contents of the course being thus made into newattitudes toward work which end up yielding better results for society / A presente disserta??o teve por objetivo identificar a percep??o dos servidores p?blicos sobre as mudan?as produzidas na execu??o do trabalho, a partir da participa??o no Curso de Tecn?logo em Gest?o P?blica do Governo do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. The thesis deals with the development of education in the town of Lysá nad Labem, taking into account the historical development of the town and the region. The thesis also describes the history of Lysá nad Labem with an emphasis on education. The aim of the thesis is to map the historical development of the oldest elementary school in Lysá nad Labem. The main source of the work are school chronicles and memorial books, which are kept in the depository of the State district archive - Nymburk, located in Lysá nad Labem. The work deals with the historical development of this school in a particular period namely the years 1878-1945. The work is of a historical character, and the original sources and archival documents were used in its creation. Methodologically, the thesis is based on the historical comparative method, as well as the analysis and synthesis. Historical work is not divided into a theoretical and practical part, but is predominantly theoretical in its character. This thesis is focused on the possible influence of citizens on the development of education in the Blovicko and Přešticko regions through action planning. Citizens in the area can participate in the Local Action Plan for the Development of Education, which is implemented by the Local Action Group Aktivios and participate in processes focused on improving the quality of education. The starting points of the work are theoretical concepts of civic participation and social capital, in the context of which the project Local Action Plan for the Development of Education is presented. In the research part of the thesis are presented data from interviews, there are discussed questions how the involved citizens perceive the possibilities of civic participation, what they want to influence by their involvement and how are social ties and networks important for their work in the project. At the end are presented answers to the research questions and the theory with respect to the research results.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Novice Teacher Support Structures

Teachers are leaving their profession at alarming rates. As a result, retaining novice teachers has become a major concern for policy makers, school districts, administrators, and teaching staff throughout the United States. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of novice teacher induction support structures in a southwestern US state. The conceptual framework is based on research examining teacher attrition; this study extends the research by examining school-based and university-based programs. Research questions focused on the perception of novice teachers regarding mentoring experiences at their certifying universities and employing school districts. Three research questions examined school district comprehensive induction support, certifying university support induction programs, and other support services that supported novice teachers' decisions to remain in the profession. This study used a sequential exploratory mixed methods design to gather data. Quantitative research analyzed survey responses through descriptive statistics. Qualitative research utilized semi-structured interviews. Data analysis involved coding and theme analysis. Results revealed strong school support can compensate for the lack of university support, but strong university support did not compensate for a lack of school support. Implications for social change indicate the need for stronger school supports in induction programs for new teachers. First-year teachers should be followed for a longer period of time to understand difficulties they face as they grow into experienced teachers. This study provided valuable data to identify types of school and university-based support that may aid in the reduction of teacher attrition rates.

Accounting for sustainability in Bengal : examining arsenic mitigation technologies using Process Analysis Method

This thesis shows how the Process Analysis Method (PAM) can be applied to assess technologies used to mitigate arsenic from drinking water in rural India, using a set of sustainability indicators. Stakeholder perspectives, gathered from a fieldwork survey of 933 households in West Bengal in 2012, played a significant role in this assessment. This research found that the ‘Most Important’ issues as specified by the technology users are cost, trust, distance from their home to the clean water source (an indicator of convenience), and understanding the health effects of arsenic. It was also found that none of the ten technologies evaluated are economically viable, as many do not charge user-fees, which creates reliance upon donations to meet recurring costs. Utilisation of a technology is strongly related to sociocultural capital, but in many cases, features that contribute to sociocultural value, like regular testing of the treated water, are not included in the financial budget. It is suggested that increased awareness might change attitudes to arsenic-rich waste and its disposal protocols. This waste is often currently discarded in an uncontrolled manner in the local environment, giving rise to the possibility of point-source recontamination. All technologies proved to have difficulties in dealing with waste, except the Tipot and Dug wells which produce no waste. Of the methods considered, the BESU technology scored highest, but still only with 47-62% of the maximum scores achievable within each domain. This explains the widespread failure of mitigation projects across the region. The indicators and metrics show where improvements can be made. A model scheme based on these findings is outlined which could be applied with the objective of increasing utilisation and improving sustainability. It can be concluded that a product stewardship approach should be taken in regard to design, implementation and operation of the technologies, including the creation of a regulated toxic waste collection and disposal industry.

As ações educativas sobre sustentabilidade ambiental constituem uma ferramenta cujo intuito é aumentar a consciência das pessoas sobre os problemas ambientais e sobre suas consequências para a humanidade. Quando bem estruturadas e aplicadas, elas têm um papel importante na mudança dos hábitos das pessoas. Nesse sentido, as organizações podem contribuir aplicando-as a seus funcionários e a outros stakeholders. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa é identificar como as empresas da indústria de defensivos agrícolas e prestadoras de serviço ambiental desenvolvem seus sistemas de treinamento, desenvolvimento e educação (TD&E) relacionados à sustentabilidade ambiental. Para atingir os objetivos propostos, foi realizado um estudo de casos múltiplos em duas empresas. Uma indústria de defensivos agrícolas e uma empresa prestadora de serviços ambientais. Com esses estudos de caso, foi possível entender a interação do departamento de recursos humanos para essas ações de sustentabilidade ambiental, ver como a EA e a EDS são trabalhadas com os funcionários de diferentes níveis organizacionais. Foi possível também entender como as empresas realizam o levantamento de necessidade de treinamento (LNT), como elas planejam e como avaliam as ações educacionais para sustentabilidade ambiental. Como implicações práticas, é possível afirmar que sessões mais curtas (com até duas horas), combinação de técnicas de ensino e uso de estudo de caso ao final da ação educacional como forma de avaliação contribuem para despertar interesse dos aprendizes e fixar o conteúdo com mais facilidade. É importante oferecer ambiente e ferramentas adequados para a realização de ações educativas para sustentabilidade ambiental em ambiente externo (fora das salas de aula). / Educational actions on environmental sustainability are a tool whose aim is to increase the people\'s consciousness about the environment problems and their consequences for mankind. These actions, when well structured and applied, play an important role in changing people\'s habits. In this context, companies can contribute by applying such actions to their employees and other stakeholders. Therefore, the objective of the present work is to identify how crop protection industry and environmental service companies develop their TD&E systems for environmental sustainability. In order to achieve such objectives, a multiple-case study of two companies, one crop protection industry and other providing environmental services, was conducted. With these case studies, it was possible to understand the interaction between human resource department and environmental sustainability actions, including how environmental education (EE) and environmental sustainability education (ESE) are applied to employees at different organizational levels. It was also possible to know how companies perform their training need assessment and how they plan and evaluate educational actions for environmental sustainability. In terms of practical implications, one can state that shorter sessions (up to 2 hours long), combination of teaching techniques, and use of case study as a form of evaluation at the end of the education action contribute to trigger the learners\' interest and fix the content more easily. It is important to offer adequate milieu and tools for conducting education actions for environmental sustainability out of the class room.
