Los \"papeles personales\" de Rodolfo Walsh: el violento oficio del diarista / The \"personal papers\" of Rodolfo Walsh: the violent job of the diarist

Spandau, Gustavo Walter 03 October 2014 (has links)
The present dissertation proposes an analysis of Rodolfo Walshs diaries written between 1957 and 1976. These personal notes, which have been made during almost twenty years, are in the book entitled Ese Hombre Y Otros Papeles Personales, organized by Daniel Link. Thus, this research focuses on these personal texts that are a real logbook of the author, considering that beside the diary, the notes include other correlated writings as memories, childhood stories and autobiographical material. The first chapter focuses in two preliminary topics: the first one is about the problems that emerge from the subject of the literary genres related to the author and his work, and the second one analyzes the issue of the diary in general, the scripts referring to the author, what kind of diary was built and the difficulties of its fragmentation and heterogeneity. The second and third chapters are centered on the analyses of the writers diary itself, since his stay in Cuba between 1959 and 1961 until his performance in \"Padilla\" in 1972, among other circumstances. In the fourth chapter the research is based on the autobiographic material of the writer inside the corpus and the personal traits which represent and emerge from it. Finally, in the last chapter the study goes into the problem of revolutionary violence to Rodolfo Walsh and how it is configured from the writings of the author. In summary, the paper proposes a reflection about all this corpus heterogeneity and heterodoxy, from the emergence of a divided subject and the observation of the configuration of it inside the texts and its relation with Walshs public writing.

Based on Henri Wallon‟s theory about affection and environment, this research has as documents the diaries written in 2005 with didactic purposes, at the time. Later on, these diaries became the object of the current study. The data analysis was developed through themes, searching for the revelations within the diaries, as well as: 1st confidant, close friend; 2nd depository of emotions and feelings: a) happiness; b) sadness; c) anger; d) fear; 3rd communication tool between the teachers and his students; 4th a tool for students‟ sociocultural environment knowledge. The results indicate that the diary allowed the affective relations between teacher and students to be tightened, a better knowledge form the teacher‟s point of view on the students‟ socio-cultural reality and also an affective relation form the students in relation to the diaries. This diary came to be for some of the students the meaningful other, a friend to whom they could reveal a secret and unburden their hearts, manifesting themselves entirely.

Modeling Relationships between Cycles in Psychology: Potential Limitations of Sinusoidal and Mass-Spring Models

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: With improvements in technology, intensive longitudinal studies that permit the investigation of daily and weekly cycles in behavior have increased exponentially over the past few decades. Traditionally, when data have been collected on two variables over time, multivariate time series approaches that remove trends, cycles, and serial dependency have been used. These analyses permit the study of the relationship between random shocks (perturbations) in the presumed causal series and changes in the outcome series, but do not permit the study of the relationships between cycles. Liu and West (2016) proposed a multilevel approach that permitted the study of potential between subject relationships between features of the cycles in two series (e.g., amplitude). However, I show that the application of the Liu and West approach is restricted to a small set of features and types of relationships between the series. Several authors (e.g., Boker & Graham, 1998) proposed a connected mass-spring model that appears to permit modeling of more general cyclic relationships. I showed that the undamped connected mass-spring model is also limited and may be unidentified. To test the severity of the restrictions of the motion trajectories producible by the undamped connected mass-spring model I mathematically derived their connection to the force equations of the undamped connected mass-spring system. The mathematical solution describes the domain of the trajectory pairs that are producible by the undamped connected mass-spring model. The set of producible trajectory pairs is highly restricted, and this restriction sets major limitations on the application of the connected mass-spring model to psychological data. I used a simulation to demonstrate that even if a pair of psychological time-varying variables behaved exactly like two masses in an undamped connected mass-spring system, the connected mass-spring model would not yield adequate parameter estimates. My simulation probed the performance of the connected mass-spring model as a function of several aspects of data quality including number of subjects, series length, sampling rate relative to the cycle, and measurement error in the data. The findings can be extended to damped and nonlinear connected mass-spring systems. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Psychology 2019

Effects of Positive and Negative Events on Daily Relationship Effect for Clinical Couples: A Daily Diary Study

Mennenga, Kayla Dawn 01 August 2015 (has links)
Relationship satisfaction is a popular variable to consider when looking at long-term success for couples. Research indicates positive and negative events have an impact on relationship satisfaction. Considering the influence of the Vulnerability-Stress-Adaptation framework, the present study focuses on the daily impact of positive and negative events that happen outside of therapy on couple relationship satisfaction for couples seeking therapy. Daily diary methods were used to collect data, a first for using this method with clinical couples. Random effects and multilevel models of analysis controlled for days and couples. Results suggest that on any given day, positive events impact both male and female daily relationship satisfaction. Findings also propose that these events outside of therapy tend to occur more frequently in the evening on any given day, specifically for negative events. Understanding these findings, therapists have an opportunity to use therapy as a tool to enhance adaptive processes for couples in order for couples to continue experiencing higher levels of couple satisfaction.

Exploring the Energy Link between Emotion Regulation at Work and Health Behaviors

Johnson, Ryan Christopher 31 March 2014 (has links)
The present study explores the process through which the regulation of emotions at work, also known as emotional labor, depletes self-regulatory resources, specifically energy, and distally impacts health behaviors in the form of less physical activity and more unhealthy eating. Differences in relationships between two forms of emotional labor, surface acting and deep acting, as well as differences between psychological and physical energy depletion, are explored. Additionally, the roles of trait mindfulness and future temporal focus are examined as between-individual differences moderating the proposed relationships. Multi-level analysis of daily diary data collected from participants (N = 108 participants) over ten work days (N = 1,273 total days) demonstrates that surface acting at work, but not deep acting, is negatively related to after work energy levels, such that participants reported less energy on days when they engaged in more surface acting. No significant differences in strength of relationships for physical versus psychological energy depletion were found. After work energy depletion related to less time and intensity spent on physical activity, but no support for an overall mediated effect was found. No significant effects were found for unhealthy eating, or future temporal focus, while trait mindfulness did positively relate to energy levels in several models. Theoretical and practical implications, as well as future research directions, and methodological recommendations for researchers wishing to conduct similar studies are presented. As one of the first attempts to examine the mechanisms linking emotional labor and health behaviors, this study highlights the intricate nature of the relationships examined and the resultant need for both broader and more targeted multi-faceted research at multiple-levels of analyses to further explain the complex story of work and health.

An economic analysis of the leasing system to develop diary goat production : a case study at Ga-Mampa, Mafefe rural community in Limpopo Province of South Africa

Mosoma, Makgomo Vivian January 2009 (has links)
Dissertation (MSc(Agriculture) / The main objective of the study was to analyze the economic viability and sustainability of the leasing system in the development of dairy goat’s keepers group in Ga-Mampa, Mafefe rural community. Mafefe is one of the rural communities where dairy goat keeping is given little or no care by the dairy goat keepers. Through an action research process implemented within the community by the Center for Rural Community Empowerment (CRCE/University of Limpopo: Turfloop Campus), community members became interested in developing dairy goat keeping, which was very dubious to the community members as it was their first time to hear about goats bred for milk production. In Limpopo Province, goats are the most common livestock among communal farmers and yet they do not make a significant contribution to the economy of the place, let alone improve income of the households who keep dairy goats. The purpose of the study, therefore, was to find ways to transform the current subsistence system of producing indigenous goats by households in Ga-Mampa Mafefe (Capricorn District (CD)) in the Limpopo Province of South Africa into a viable system of producing, processing and marketing both dairy goats and their byproducts through formal markets. The study attempts to find out as to how a commodity group manages capital through a leasing system to sustainably insure that its members can access a technical innovation: dairy goat keeping. This study also looks at how leasing contributes to the development of the dairy goat project, the community and the development of individual members of the project. The Net Present Value (NPV) and Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) criteria were used to evaluate the economic viability of the leasing system towards the development of dairy goats. The results indicate that the NPV in this study is greater than zero, therefore the project is considered to be economically viable and sustainable, and also the BCR is greater than one indicating that the project is still profitable and hence acceptable. According to the findings from the analytical techniques, production of dairy goats through the leasing system would be profitable to dairy goat keepers. vi A sensitivity analysis to changes in benefits and costs of inputs was conducted. This found the above project proposal to be viable, even when benefits are reduced by 20%. The project proposal was still viable when the cost of inputs was inflated by 20%. In both cases, the benefit cost ratio is greater than one. Also the combined effect of reducing the benefit by 20% and inflating cots by 20% would result in positive Net Present Value (NPV). Results from a survey carried out further show the possibility and viability of producing satisfactory levels of milk from dairy goats in Limpopo Province. / French Embassy, Centre for Rural Community Empowerment (CRCE)

Pharmacotherapy for Parkinson's Disease - Observations and Innovations

Nyholm, Dag January 2003 (has links)
<p>Pharmacotherapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD) is based on levodopa, the most effective dopaminergic drug. The development of motor complications constitutes the major challenge for new or refined therapies.</p><p>To evaluate the impact of levodopa pharmacokinetics on motor function, an observational study in the patients’ home environment was carried out. A high variability in plasma levodopa levels was found in all patients, irrespective of treatment regimen. The impact of levodopa pharmacokinetics was further studied in a crossover trial comparing sustained-release tablets and continuous daytime intestinal infusion. Infusion produced significantly decreased variability in plasma levels of levodopa, resulting in significantly normalised motor function. A permanent system for long-term levodopa infusion has been developed and 28 patients have been followed for 87 patient-years. Motor response was generally preserved during the long-term observation period, implying that there is no development of tolerance to infusion therapy. Levodopa tablets are normally used in multiples of 50 or 100 mg, thus a rough estimate of individual dosage. A new concept for individualising levodopa/carbidopa doses with microtablets of 5/1.25 mg is under development. An electronic drug-dispensing device for administering the microtablets was tested on patients with PD. All were able to handle the dispenser and most were interested in future use of the concept. Self-assessment of symptoms is accurate in PD, but traditional paper diaries are associated with low compliance. A wireless electronic diary was compared with a corresponding paper diary. The time-stamped and thus completely reliable patient compliance was 88% with the electronic diary.</p><p>To conclude, pharmacokinetics of levodopa is the major determinant for motor fluctuations in PD. Every effort to individualise dosage and to smooth out the fluctuations in levodopa concentrations should be made, e.g. by means of microtablets or enteral infusion. Electronic patient diaries for real-time data capture are suitable for PD studies.</p>

Gender Differences in Overt Behavior and Mediators of Depression Severity

Ryba, Marlena Maria 01 August 2011 (has links)
For several decades, evolutionary and social learning theories have been explanatory frameworks to explicate gender differences in overt behaviors and the prevalence, etiology, and maintenance of mental health problems. To further explore relations among gender, overt behaviors, and depression severity, this study used a daily diary methodology to examine gender differences within thirteen behavioral domains and whether differntial frequency of overt behaviors and environmental reward mediated the relationship between gender and depression severity. Overall, females engaged in a significantly greater breadth of behavioral domains and reported a higher level of environmental reward. Females reported spending more time in the domains of health/hygiene, spiritual activities, and eating with others. In contrast, males spent a greater duration of time in the domains of physical activity, sexual activity, and hobbies and recreational experiences. In relation to males, females found social activities, passive/sedentary behaviors, eating with others, and engagement in “other” activities to be more rewarding. Gender had a significant direct effect on depression severity, with females reporting increased depression. This effect was attenuated by the mediator (total environmental reward) such that to the extent that females exhibited increased environmental reward, the gender effect on depression was reduced. These data support behavioral models of depression and have clinical relevance as highlighted in the context of behavioral activation interventions for depression.
