Nyandoro, Rudolf 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to assess counselling skills among the Roman Catholic priests in Masvingo diocese- Zimbabwe. This research took place because the priests encountered challenging situations that called for pastoral counselling skills. The research examined and assessed the competence of the clergy. To carry out this research, a survey of 40 priests and 50 parishioners was undertaken. The methods used to collect data were the questionnaire and unstructured interviews. The research structure began with the general introduction, followed by several themes discussed in relation to the literature on counselling in general, pastoral counselling skills and Christian reaction. After analysing the findings, there was confirmation that there was some lack of counselling skills among the clergy. In conclusion, the study recommended a thorough training and supervision in pastoral counselling. This includes the engagement of experts in psychological and pastoral counselling skills. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M.Th. Practical Theology

The Anglican Church in Grahamstown 1830-1870 : a study of the experience of the parishioners in the development of the tradition

Taylor, Norton Lindsay Alport 11 1900 (has links)
A social history of Grahamstown between the years of 1830-1870. Tracing the relationship of the parishioners of the diocese with the "English Church", which developed into a formative part of the world-wide Anglican communion as the Church of the Province of South Africa after 1870. The study tries to gauge the extent of external influences on the settlers after 1830 both socio-political and ecclesiological and especially with the growth of the influence of the Tractarians after the arrival of Gray as first bishop. In the light of the later developments when the churches became 'trapped in apartheid', the study attempts to show that this was a time when a degree of independence in church/state relations church was achieved but the division between settler church and mission church became a reality. The study also engages in discussion of the relationship between a church and generalist historiography. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Church History)

We will give emphasis to the education, which action is oriented for the formation of intellectual elite that was defending the ideals of this institution. In the end of the nineteenth century, with the break of the ecclesiastical patronage and the advent of new churches disputing the Brazilian territory, the Church starts to be concerned by a more conservative formation, attempting to stop the demonstrations of a popular Catholicism that were appearing in Brazil. Seminars and schools were created all over Brazil, with the catholic religion spreading goal, by means of the Brazilian education romanizing process. This work attempts to ally the themes about religion and education, dealing with the Catholic Church actions about the Creation of the Diocese in Crato and the Diocesan College in order to undertake the project that made feasible the maintenance of catholic power. The central objective is to analyze this process, aiming to understand the sociocultural role fulfilled by this educational institution in Crato city. Along his history, Crato was strongly orientated by the Catholic religion which imprints its presence since the Priest Ibiapina arrival and his charity institutions. The Catholic Church activity on Crato reflects the intellectuals’ formation that later defended this institution in several fronts, for instance the diocese host contest against Juazeiro’s Priest Cícero. In fact, the study of the religion and history of education in the Ceará will serve as theoretical outline to reaffirm the power of Catholic Institution. No final do séc.

This thesis focuses on the establishment of the diocese of Ribeirão Preto and the government of its first bishop. In June of 1908 the diocese of Ribeirão Preto was created along with five other dioceses which became part of the Ecclesiastical province of São Paulo, a project developed by D. Duarte Leopoldo e Silva with the intent of increasing and consolidating the presence of the Church in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The bishop elected for Ribeirão Preto was D. Alberto José Gonçalves, a priest and politician who had held office as congressman and senator for the Republic from the state of Paraná, and who came with the incumbency to recruit all Catholics in the task of weakening the forces of anticlerical modernism and of other beliefs in the region. D. Alberto s term in government extended from February 1909, when he took office, until his death in May of 1945. During the 36 years in which he was at the head of the diocese of Ribeirão Preto he organized the assets, constructed and embellished the cathedral, and encouraged his priests to build and renovate their parishes. D. Alberto s pastoral works began as pastoral visits in his diocese, preaching, administering the sacraments and orientating priests and lay people. His incentive to his priests to call upon the participation of lay people in church activities, as well as his preoccupation with the expansion of other faiths, both Christian and non-Christian, were important issues of D. Alberto s government. Maintaining a distance from political parties and from any elected office, the Bishop of Ribeirão Preto set about implanting religious teaching in the public schools, setting up the Ação Católica (Catholic Action) in the parishes and holding a Diocesan Eucharistic Congress. All of the directives of the Vatican were accepted and followed by D. Alberto and by his auxiliary bishop, D. Manoel da Silveira D Élboux, who arrived in 1940

Sandro Rogerio Feitoza de Lemos 19 May 2014 (has links)

Un répertoire des formes, entre préroman et anté-roman / Rural churches in the ancient diocese of Elne (Roussillon and Vallespir, Pyrénées-Orientales), between the Vth and the XIth century : the expression of an architectural palimpsest? A catalogue of the forms, between pre-Romanesque and ante-Romanesque.

Gourgues, Morgane 25 November 2017 (has links)
The scarcity of evidence trickled down from the late Antiquity and the Roussillon Early Middle Ages, although quite flourishing, has casta veil depriving us for quitea while of all the chromatic richness of a long era, obscure only because of the a priori one has about it. Carrying out an introspection into the genesis of the formal Christian vocabulary is an absolute must to understand its shortcuts, those being often brought about by a monofocal vision too rarely offering the opportunity to consider the church building according to its polysemy: worshipping and congregating places for the believers as well as places where their craftmanship and art could be expressed. A summary, all in all,in the midst of a mutating society where the various political actors have only had in fact a moderate impact. The humbleante-Romanesque rural churches, by their structures and their method of building are eventually revealing of a legacy and a continuity played downuntil now, unsuspectedindeed. By choosing not to dissociate the evolution of techniques from that of the forms while factoring in the new prospects brought up by medieval archaeology, for other areas, the chronological postulates weaken, becoming less relative and more unbiased. Between rereading and rewording, it is now advisable to consider putting to the test pre-Romanesque architecture.
