The objective of this study was to verify the electrical activity of masticatory and cervical muscles and the pattern of body posture in symptomatic individuals of Temporomanbular Disorders (TMD) comparing them with non symptomatic individuals, through the Electromyography and Biophotogrametry. It was evaluated 37 individuals of both sexes, 22 individuals with symptoms of TMD, with age between 21 and 54 years old, and 15 individuals non symptomatics, with age between 22 and 55 years old. All individuals answered a questionnaire to determine the TMD classification and, next they accomplished an electromyographic evaluation of masticatory muscles (masseter and anterior temporal) and cervical muscles (sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius). All muscles were evaluated in the rest and during the maximal voluntary contraction. The electrical activity of masseter and temporal muscles was also verified during the mastication. The EMG was accomplished with Myosystem Br-1 equipment with 12 bits, amplified with gain of 5000, sampled at 2000 Hz, with band of 10-1000 Hz. For measuring the EMG amplitude, the root mean square (RMS), measured in μV. The pattern of body posture was evaluated through Computerized Biophotogrametry (Alcimage software). In order to analyze the results the statistic t of Student text was used. With the obtained results is possible to conclude that there wasn t statistically significant difference of the means values in RMS in the masticatory and cervical electrical activity muscles, when comparing the symptomatic and non symptomatic individuals of TMD. However, concerning the analysis of body posture, the symptomatic group presented statistically significant difference regarding to the non symptomatic group in some marked points, like: forward head, round shoulders and trunk rotation. The non symptomatic group presented difference statistically significant with regarding to the symptomatic group in the points of shoulders height and lower extremity s length. / O objetivo desta pesquisa foi verificar a atividade elétrica dos músculos mastigatórios e cervicais, e o padrão da postura corporal de indivíduos sintomáticos de Disfunção Temporomandibular (DTM) comparando-os com indivíduos assintomáticos, através da Eletromiografia e Biofotogrametria. Foram avaliados 37 indivíduos de ambos os sexos, sendo 22 indivíduos entre 21 a 54 anos com sintoma de DTM e 15 indivíduos assintomáticos entre 22 a 55 anos. Todos os indivíduos responderam a um questionário específico (Fonseca, 1994), para auxiliar na classificação da DTM e, após, realizaram avaliação eletromiográfica dos músculos mastigatórios (masseter e temporal anterior) e dos músculos cervicais (esternocleidomastoídeo e trapézio porção superior) bilateralmente. Todos os músculos foram avaliados durante o repouso e contração voluntária máxima (CVM). A atividade elétrica dos músculos masseter e temporal também foi avaliada durante a mastigação. A avaliação eletromiográfica foi realizada com equipamento Myosistem Br-1, memória com 12 bits, amplificação com ganho de 5000, faixa de 10-1000 Hz. Para medir a amplitude do EMG foi usada a raiz quadrada das médias (RMS) medida em μV. O padrão postural foi avaliado através da Biofotogrametria Computadorizada através do software (Alcimage). Para análise dos resultados foi usado o teste estatístico t de Student. Ao final do estudo os resultados permitiram concluir que não houve diferença significante das médias em RMS da atividade elétrica dos músculos mastigatórios e cervicais quando comparados entre os indivíduos sintomáticos e assintomáticos de DTM. Entretanto, em relação à análise da postura corporal, o grupo sintomático apresentou diferença estatisticamente significante em relação ao grupo assintomático em alguns pontos avaliados tais como: anteriorização da cabeça, protrusão dos ombros e rotação do tronco. E o grupo assintomático apresentou diferença estatisticamente significante em relação ao grupo sintomático nos pontos relacionados à altura dos ombros e comprimento dos membros inferiores.
