Bengtsson, Petra, Barta-Persson, Monika January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the consequences of growing up with maltreatment, neglect, hidden trauma and its impact in adult life. The idea of the study is to make visible the hidden neglect which is not so researched, and which in the worst case can be traumatizing. The work explains maltreatment, neglect and hidden trauma and also its impact and consequences in adulthood. The study is based on autobiographies and on the basis of these, it has been mapped how the upbringing and neglect are exposed, as well as the consequences and the impact it has had on adult individuals. Discovering hidden neglect is difficult and studies show severe consequences in the form of mental illness in adulthood. In cases of neglect or care failure, the connection between the child and the parent is often broken, which in turn can lead to hidden trauma for the child. Even as a professional, it can be difficult to discover hidden trauma because hidden trauma is a combination of several traumatic events, and which usually takes place in the home environment. Furthermore, the study must show how the women, through their upbringing, entailed, both by themselves and society.
