"Som man frågar får man svar" : En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares arbete med barn som upplevt våld i hemmet / "As you ask, you get answers" : A qualitative study on social workers' work with children who have experienced domestic violence

Kaiser, Rebecca, Svensson Galle, Lizbet January 2020 (has links)

Barns egna upplevelser av våld i hemmet : En litteraturöversik / Children's experiences of domestic violence

Nilsson, Jonna January 2020 (has links)
Upplevelserna kunde delas in i tre kategorier, flöjt av tre subkategorier. All children should grow up in a safe home with caring parents but unfortunately, not all children have the possibility. Regardless of the safety nets and the rights that are in the child's favor, there are children who are subjected to violence. The violence can be physical, mental or sexual. The violence affects children negatively both in the short and long term. Aim: The purpose of the study was to illuminate children's own experiences of domestic violence. Method: A literature review was used as a method. Seven scientific articles were selected after a systematic literature search and has been quality review. The articles were analyzed and compiled into categories. Results: The result shows how the children experience their relationship with the perpetrator, and the mother and siblings, which feelings that appear and what the children experienced helped them. The children's experiences were sorted into three separate categories, followed by three subcategories. Conclusion: The relationships looked different depending on whether it was the relationship with the perpetrator, mother or siblings. The children acted differently depending on the feelings they experienced. With the help of friends, play and games, the children felt that they could escape reality for a while.

Coercive control in the courtroom: Legal abuse and its correlates

Gutowski, Ellen R. January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Lisa A. Goodman / At the vulnerable time of separation, many survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) enter into family courts in search of protection for themselves and their children. However, they may instead face a distressing court process in which they must confront the person who abused them and encounter legal determinations that place them and their families in danger. As many survivors – particularly those who are mothers - have no choice but to engage in the family court system to address matters such as divorce and child custody, this legal institution serves as an important gatekeeper to safety. Thus, it is essential to understand why survivors repeatedly report such - often extreme - negative experiences. A growing number of qualitative studies point to legal abuse -- abusive partners’ use of court processes to enact coercive control -- as an overlooked, yet critical mechanism through which survivors and their children are harmed during family court processes. To shed light on the role of this pernicious process, this study 1) established an ecologically and psychometrically valid measure of legal abuse, 2) used the measure to explore the psychological correlates of legal abuse for survivors, and 3) leveraged a mixed-methods approach to investigate the vocational, economic, and related mental health factors associated with legal abuse. Results pave the way for further research and policy efforts that recognize and respond to legal abuse in family court. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2021. / Submitted to: Boston College. Kommunens arbete med våldsutsatta äldre kvinnor inära relation : En kvalitativ fallstudie om en omsorgsförvaltnings arbete med våld i nära relationer hos äldre kvinnor / The municipality's work with violent elderly women in close relationship

Bengtsson, Oscar, Johansson, Erika January 2020 (has links)
Domestic violence is acknowledged as a social problem but the research is often focused on younger individuals. The people who is affected by domestic violence is not just a group of homogeneous women but can vary in age, social and economic status. Elderly people are also often viewed as a homogeneous group of individuals. This can result in a neglection of their individual needs. The age limit is rising which results in a growth in the elderly population. This causes an increased pressure in the existing systems to adapt new strategies to meet the elderly populations needs. There is a lack of previous research in the area of elderly women who is affected by domestic abuse and how the municipality works with the problem. There for in this study we aim to identify how a municipality care department work against domestic violence amongst elderly women and what strategies they are using to combat the social problem.

Intimate partner violence and the role of the health caresystem

Dahlbäck, Anna Maria January 2020 (has links)
IntroductionHealth care is important for identifying IPV (intimate partner violence). Screening variesbetween clinics. By supporting the victim, chances for cooperation in the investigationincreases and thus the conviction rate. Health care needs to identify and support IPV victimswhen reporting crimes.AimThe overall aim of this study was twofold; first to examine to what extent Swedish health carefacilities screen for IPV, and second to investigate the relations between cooperation in thecriminal investigation and conviction rate.MethodThis was a pilot study. First national, regional and local health care facilities and agencieswere approached by conducting telephone interviews. Second, data from a longitudinal studyon policing IPV were used to be able to compare conviction rate if the victim participated inthe legal process or not.ResultsOut of five organisations, only one agency had statistics of routinely screening for IPV,provided statistics for maternal care. Where the screening rate was 90%. In the longitudinalstudy including 564 perpetrators, we found that if the victim cooperated in the investigation, itwas twice as likely (Odds Ratio=2.66) that the perpetrator was convicted for the crime.ConclusionHealth care is important for identifying IPV in order to support victims to report crimes to thepolice, although only the maternal care screens for it routinely. More hospitals and differentunits need to insert routines to screen for IPV. By doing so, the women will get more supportin the legal process, which could increase the chance of conviction.

Englund, Sandra, Lundström, Nora January 2020 (has links)
Background: Domestic violence is a global health problem that violates human rights. About 30% women is affected at some point in their lives by domestic violence, which burdens the healthcare. Violence in close relationships leads to physical and mental injuries and an increased risk of dying prematurely. Aim: The purpose of the literature study was to shed light on nurses' experience of meeting the women who have been subjected to domestic violence. Methods: A literature study was conducted where 8 qualitative articles were analyzed. The studies were found in the databases Cinahl and PubMed. Results: Based on the analysis, 4 categories and 11 subcategories were formed. The categories were: revealing violence, striving to support the woman, knowledge and experience, and emotional reaction. Conclusion: Working with women exposed to domestic violence is a broken system with many shortcomings. Nurses need to become aware of the problem and everyone needs to work in the same direction. A learning organization must provide continuous training in the identification of violence, how to ask about violence and how to deal with domestic violence.

The social services' work with children exposed to violence : The social secretaries' room for maneuver and the significance of the attachment in work with children who are exposed to violence in close relationships.

Zverinova, Veronika January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to higlight the social services' perception of the scope for action a which a social secretary has based on the legislation and the use of child's attachment in assessments of possible family home placement, relocation or granting of voluntary contributions due to violence in close relationships. The study is of qualitative character and based on a hermeneutical approach, together with attachment and action space theory. Empirical data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. The results show that the child's attachment is important in work with abused children and that investigators and therapists need to take the child's connection into account in order to create security for the child. This security creates better conditions for the child to be able to assimilate treatment efforts. Furthet, the results show that social workers feel that they have both large and small room for maneuver, particularly in relation to legislation and within the framework of the exercise of authority. While the social services need to comply with the legislation, there is also an opportunity for carrying out motivational work, not least within the framework of social work, in order to increase the possibility to meet childrens need for security, protection and safety. The results indicate that efforts are primarily directed at the parents, both the biological and foster parents. The reason for this is that parents need to understand their own attachment pattern in order to understand the attachment pattern och the child. In order for the child to be able to assimilate efforts without guilt and loyalty conflict arising towards the parents, there is a need for creating security and stability in the home environment. The child needs the support of his parents to be able to dare to talk about his feelings and experiences at the same time as the parents need to gain more knowledge about the child's development and the consequences which the parents' actions can have for the child in adulthood. Certainly, tje work with violence in close relationships is constantly evolving,Yet the field of social services still requires more knowledge about this type of violence and its consequences. There is also a need for more knowledge about the work of social services and other social actors in general, as much as of the opportunities for support, almed for families where violence occurs.

A narrative inquiry into the experience of a male survivor of domestic violence

Du Toit, Marisa 12 August 2011 (has links)
This research narrative represents a co-construction of domestic violence focusing on the male victim. The narrative’s main aim is to contribute to the body of work that seeks to ensure that the invisible male victims of domestic violence have a voice, and that they are counted. Little research has been undertaken to voice the experiences of male domestic violence victims. Domestic violence is constructed using a social constructionist perspective and Tom’s narrative is elicited and analysed by means of narrative methodology. Tom is a citizen of the United States of America and due to his geographical location a face-to-face interview was not possible. The best means to collect his narrative was through electronic mail (email) which granted Tom and the researcher the opportunity to reflect upon the research process as it unfolded. The research narrative found some similarities between Tom’s experiences and those noted in other published research narratives. Some of these similarities included the minimal extent of physical injuries to Tom, the more prevalent occurrence of psychological abuse and the use of institutional measures to control his behaviour. In contrast to the literature reviewed, Tom reported that his ex-wife was hurt more often during her violent outbursts. It is recommended that future research includes as many members of the affected family as possible in order to ensure a rich and diverse narrative. In addition, it is suggested that similar research be conducted in a sensitive way and over a short period. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Psychology / unrestricted
