The retailing paradox : a study of the green market development in food retailingJovanovic, Kristina January 2017 (has links)
CSR has become an important issue in the business practices of retailers worldwide. When it comes to the food sector, retailers are expected to adopt CSR practices and influence their consumers and supply chains to behave in a socially responsible way. Since the food consumption in answerable for 30 per cent of the negative environmentally impact the retailers are suggested to stimulate the green market development and sustainability in both production and consumption practices. This can be done with establishment of the responsible assortment. In relation to that, one of the main tools that food retailers use to create responsible assortment is called CSR labelling. The purpose of this study is to explore how food retail store managers engage to adopt CSR in the store assortment and how private eco-brands contribute to the green-market development in food retail. In order to achieve a widely understanding of food retailers practices when the creation of responsible assortment ant the stimulation of the green market development are in case, a qualitative method with 9 semi structured interviews was applied. The results show that retailers use CSR and eco-labells with the intention to motivate consumers to buy sustainable food products. The retailers are also showing increased attention of controlling the supply chain and influencing suppliers to behave in a socially responsible way. However, the findings indicates that both store managers and consumers need to be better informed about the benefit of the sustainable products.

The most important question is if there is any benefit for your company to go green, otherwise positioning of your company will be hard. What I realized during the design part of my project was that if I use the methods described in this thesis and consequently applying my choices after the flower shops identifying words, a working concept-based visual identity will be possible to create.

Level: Master degree thesis in Business AdministrationAuthor: Khalida Akter Supervisor: Zahra AhmadiExaminer: Maria Fregidou-Malama Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate how consumer trust, eco-branding and green marketing strategy influence consumer purchase intention towards ecological products. Method: The qualitative method and inductive approach have been used for this research. The primary data have been collected through face to face interview and the secondary data have been used through scientific journals and the internet. Findings: The results show the important factors that can promote green marketing towards ecological products are; consumer trust, green trust, eco-label trust, eco-branding, green pricing, green advertising, green design and green promotion have a strong relation with each other. The study also shows that consumer purchase intention can be increased by giving sufficient information regarding ecological products, by increasing awareness, credibility, by reducing the perceived risk of the products, brand uniqueness, by advertising the products through the company magazines, billboards and posters outside of the supermarket, by raising awareness of customer health. Brand loyalty is also an important factor to create a long-term relationship with customers and it can be created by the fair price perception among the customers. The main promotional issues have been found for this study is customer health and climate change. The study also shows that price doesn’t affect on consumer purchase behaviour. Suggestions for future research: This study helps to understand how to promote green marketing for ecological products. For further study, the author suggests to investigate if there is a relationship between green marketing, consumer trust, eco-branding as well as a green marketing strategy. The future study will help to research on green marketing for ecological products. Contribution: This study has identified elements to promote green marketing and factors that can help to increase consumers purchase intention. The author hopes that the findings of this study will help companies to create their consumer purchase intention. The study has contributed to the theory and to the managers by investigating the factors affecting on green marketing. Implementation av ett CSR-engagemang innebär stora ekonomiska påfrestelser på ett företag vilket kan visa sig vara problematiskt för företag då konsumenterna uppger att de är villiga att överväga CSR men när det gäller verklig konsumtion är det få konsumenter som tar hänsyn till CSR. Syftet med denna uppsats är därför att kartlägga åsikterna om företags CSR inom mejeribranschen och klädbranschen hos konsumenter i Stockholm län. Frågeställningarna för denna uppsats är “anser svenska konsumenter att det är viktigt med CSR inom mejeribranschen respektive klädbranschen??” samt “vilka CSR-faktorer anser svenska konsumenter påverkar deras köp mest inom mejeribranschen respektive klädbranschen?”. Arbetet i studien är grundat i en kvantitativ undersökning där 307 respondenter deltog i en enkätundersökning. För att studera resultatet av enkätundersökningen har arbetet utgått ifrån teorier inom CSR och konsumentbeteende. Utifrån resultatet kan man konstatera att respondenterna anser att det är viktigare med CSR inom mejeribranschen än inom klädbranschen samt att de faktorer som respondenterna anser påverkar deras köp mest är smak eller utseende, beroende på branschen. En slutsats som kan dras utifrån resultatet är att CSR är viktigare för kvinnor än för män inom respektive bransch, samt att konsumenterna inte anser att CSR faktorer är det som har störst påverkan på deras köp inom respektive bransch. Slutligen kan slutsatsen om att respondenterna anser att CSR faktorer har större påverkan på deras köp inom mejeribranschen än i klädbranschen, bortsett från arbetsförhållanden som anses påverka mer inom klädbranschen. / Implementation of a CSR engagement involves major financial strain on a company, which may prove problematic for companies, as consumers state that they are willing to consider CSR, but when it comes to real consumption, few consumers take CSR into consideration. The purpose of this paper is therefore to map out the opinions about the corporate social responsibility regarding the industries of both clothing and dairy products for the consumers in the Stockholm area. The research questions that were examined was “do Swedish consumers consider CSR to be important in the dairy industry and the clothing industry?” and "which CSR factors do Swedish consumers consider to affect their purchases most in the dairy industry and the clothing industry?". The research has a quantitative base with a survey with 307 respondents. In order to study the result of the survey the use of different theories has been implemented for example CSR, Green Marketing and Consumer Behaviour. The result shows that the respondents think that CSR is more important in the dairy industry than the clothing industry, as well as the most important factor in their purchase is the taste or looks of the product, depending on the industry. Another conclusion is that CSR is more important for women than for men in both industries. Furthermore, consumers don't think that CSR factors is what has the greatest impact on their purchases within each industry. Lastly is that the respondents consider CSR factors to have a greater impact on their purchases in the dairy industry than in the clothing industry, apart from working conditions which are considered to affect more in the clothing industry.

I mitt arbete ämnar jag besvara frågan “Hur uttrycks stora fordonstillverkares eco-branding i förhållande till paradigmskiftet mot krav på hållbar utveckling?”. Syftet är att undersöka svårigheterna och balansgången med eco-branding inom fordonsindustrin. Detta görs utifrån en branding-studie av tre stora fordonstillverkares användning av eco-branding, ihop med mina egna erfarenheter av ett liknande designprojekt. Grafisk identitet och visuell kommunikation studeras utifrån el och hybridbilarna BMW i3, Tesla Model S och Toyota Prius. Positionering av företagen inom området kopplas till teori om hållbar utveckling, eco-branding och greenwashing för att diskutera krav på transparens och företagens upplevda legitimitet och trovärdighet. Det framkommer att de olika företagen brandar sig på olika sätt, med olika grad av eco-branding. Något som beror mycket på vilka värderingar och historia företaget och dess varumärke har. Även om det är en balansgång mellan greenwashing och trovärdighet, så kan alla ses ha olika styrkor; samt svagheter att förbättra för ökad transparens eller trovärdighet. En slutsats är dock att eco-branding börjar bli mer trovärdig och att greenwashing-trenden generellt börjat mattas av. Gemensamt för alla aktörer är att framtidsvisionen är det centrala i varumärkesbyggandet. Dock har konventionella fordonstillverkare svårare förutsättningar att förhålla sig till paradigmskiftet än nyare aktörer. / In this essay I aim to answer the question “How is the eco-branding of large automotive companies expressed, in relation to the paradigm shift towards demands for sustainability?”. The purpose is to examine the difficulties and balancing of eco-branding within the automotive industry. This is done through a comparative analysis of three large automotive companies and their use of eco-branding, together with my own experience from a similar design project. Corporate identity and visual communication is studied through the electric and hybrid cars BMW i3, Tesla Model S and Toyota Prius. The positioning of the brands within the field is linked to theory on sustainable development, eco-branding and greenwashing; to discuss demands for transparency and the brands perceived legitimacy and credibility. It is revealed that the different companies brand themselves in relatively different ways, with different degrees of eco-branding.This depends on the values and history of the company and it’s brand. Even though there is a balancing between greenwashing and credibility, they all have different strengths, as well as areas for improvement to increase company transparency and authenticity. A conclusion is however that eco-branding is becoming more credible and the trend of greenwashing is generally started to slightly diminish. It is revealed that future vision plays a central part in all of the brands. However conventional companies are shown to have significantly more difficulties in positioning themselves within the paradigmshift compared to newer actors.
