High performance drive for electric vehicles – System comparison between three and six phase permanent magnet synchronous machinesDöbler, Ralf, Schuhmann, Thomas, Inderka, Robert B., von Malottki, Sicong 07 May 2024 (has links)
In this paper, three different system topologies for a high performance electric vehicle drive are compared to each other. Next to the classical three phase permanent magnet synchronous machine in different connection schemes, also one topology containing a six phase machine has been included into the study. Suitable inverter topologies are discussed as well as the design of the multiphase winding of the six phase machine. For each of the topologies under investigation, identical types of power semiconductor devices available on the market have been defined as well as an identical active volume of the inverter. The three system topologies (three phase single star machine with parallel inverters, three phase machine in H-bridge / six leg connection, six phase double star machine) have been compared to each other regarding their performance as well as their active short circuit and no-load characteristics. It has been shown by means of simulation that the six phase PSM structure offers some remarkable advantages with regard to its three phase counterparts which makes it adequate for high performance electric vehicle drive applications.:I.
Magnetization curves and core losses of soft magnetic materials are strongly dependent on the applied cutting processes. After identifying the theoretical causes and designing an accurate and convenient measuring technique those dependencies are determined from selected materials, cutting processes, sample geometries and magnetization conditions. Thus, first conclusions about the sensitivity of magnetic properties to cutting effects are possible. The results eventually enable the identification of models specifying the material degeneration at cutting edges. Furthermore, three methods are introduced in order to describe magnetic circuits, as common in electrical machines, but under the influence of degenerated properties. Finally, those methods are compared to conventional calculations and measurements at practically relevant cores.

In the frame of this Master Thesis a dynamic single-track-model of a hybrid electric vehicle was developed. The model comprises basic operation modes such as electric, conventional and hybrid driving, recuperation of braking energy and engine start-stop. It allows to scale the split of the propulsion between the combustion and electric engine. A further fundamental com- ponent is the model of a friction disc clutch, enabling the simulation of torque transmission of a slipping clutch during the vehicle start and the upspeeding of the combustion engine through the electric engine. The program offers three driving cycles for simulation (NEDC, WLTC, FTP- 75). Fuel consumption, CO2-emissions, propulsion and recuperation work of the combustion engine, electric engine and the wheels are provided as output variables as well as the required and recuperated electric energy. Furthermore several relevant variables are displayed in their progress over time. The model was validated against real vehicle data showing a good corre- lation regarding acceleration, maximum speed and fuel consumption.
