A New Fabricate Method Applied to Polish and Shape the Lensed Fiber into the Ellipse Tip

Su, Wei-chun 17 August 2006 (has links)
The goal of this study is to design a new method which can be used for manufacturing the elliptic lensed fiber. The lensed fiber is obtained by heating the fiber tip in a fusing splicer at present. Before taking the fiber into fusing splicer, there are many procedures have to be checked. Those procedures will take a lot of time and increase the rate of inaccuracy. So, this research proposes a new method to form the elliptic lensed fiber by polishing. In this study, we simply use couple charge device (CCD) to detect the shape of the fiber tip. Than, we use the detected program to get the curvature of fiber tip. The system had been successfully achieved the purpose of curvature-controlled. The research will be the key technique toward the automatic bare fiber polishing system.

DSP-Based Development of Tracking System for Multiple Persons

Yang, Chi-Yu 23 August 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a set of tracking systems for Multiple Persons on DSP-Based. There are three sub-systems in our tracking system, including ¡§Moving Object Detection¡¨, ¡§Contour Matching¡¨ and ¡§Ellipse Algorism¡¨. First of all, the system utilizes CCD camera to capture the image which we want to control, and then detects the moving object from the continuous image array. If the system detects an invador, it will make the position of this invador with the coordinate projection, and then lock the invador's head to track. Finally, the tracking system marks the coordinate separately and exports it in LCD. From the results of the experiment, this system does meet the expectation and obtain good performance and strong robustness.

Variation of tidal current vertical structure at Tanshui estuary region of freshwater influence

Su, Sheng-famg 08 September 2006 (has links)
Abstract The Tanshui river is the second largest of the rivers in Taiwan, including three major tributaries, Da-han stream, Shin-dian stream and Keelung river. The large fresh water outflow induced strong stratification of the estuary and coastal region. In this region of fresh water influence (ROFI), the flow is dominated by barotrophic tide, with modification of density induced baroclinic flow. This research tries to explore the variations of vertical structure of tidal current. The causing of the changes will be discussed based on hydrodynamic parameters. Data used include a year long bmADCP records and sea level elevations. The sampling period is Septemper 24 of 2003 to July 12 of 2004. The sampling site is 4km offshore of river mouth. Additional data are winds, precipitation, solar radiation (from CWB) and river discharge (from RMO). The results of analysis show that (1) strong flow during spring may induce large tidal ellipse, while the ellipticity degenerates during neap. (2) Tidal ellipticity increases when large freshwater discharge which induced strong stratification at the surface 1~ 2 meters. (3) Wind is a minor factor of ellipticity, even during strong wind over 10 m/s. (4) Influence of solar radiation and seasonal variation of tidal ellipticity is insignificant. In summary, the analysis indicates that the vertical structure of tidal current is modified by (1) spring- neap tide (2) freshwater discharge and (3) winds. Especially, during spring tide with large river outflow, the tidal ellipticity increase significantly due to frictional effect and vertical stratification.

For this we did, in chapter one, an approach to the study of triangles, the ellipses, the orthogonal projection, and we present some results of arithmetic and geometry, this work titled as preliminary lemmas, to be the tools (prerequisites) for proof the theorem that the main is made in chapter two. We conclude by presenting, in chapter three, some applications and some scripts for lessons in how to use the ellipse, and in particular Steiner's Ellipse, day-to-day and in the classroom.

Research and Development of DSP Based Human Headtracker

Cheng, Kai-wen 27 July 2004 (has links)
The thesis shows the development of DSP-based ¡§human head-tracker¡¨ system. It uses CCD camera to capture images, and detects in the image sequence. When someone interrupts, the system will lock on his head and shows the locked image on the LCD screen. The Head-tracker system includes three sub-systems : ¡§Motion Detector¡¨, ¡§Ellipse Algorism¡¨, and ¡§Visual Probability Data Association Filter¡¨. From the results of experiment, it can meet the expectation and gain good performance and robustness.

Linear estimation for data with error ellipses

Amen, Sally Kathleen 21 August 2012 (has links)
When scientists collect data to be analyzed, regardless of what quantities are being measured, there are inevitably errors in the measurements. In cases where two independent variables are measured with errors, many existing techniques can produce an estimated least-squares linear fit to the data, taking into consideration the size of the errors in both variables. Yet some experiments yield data that do not only contain errors in both variables, but also a non-zero covariance between the errors. In such situations, the experiment results in measurements with error ellipses with tilts specified by the covariance terms. Following an approach suggested by Dr. Edward Robinson, Professor of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin, this report describes a methodology that finds the estimates of linear regression parameters, as well as an estimated covariance matrix, for a dataset with tilted error ellipses. Contained in an appendix is the R code for a program that produces these estimates according to the methodology. This report describes the results of the program run on a dataset of measurements of the surface brightness and Sérsic index of galaxies in the Virgo cluster. / text
