Cognitive Harmonics: Unveiling the Entrepreneurial Potential of Music EducationGayle, Michael Simeon January 2024 (has links)
This dissertation explores the intersection between formal music education—within both academic institutions and Black American church settings—and entrepreneurial success. Through a qualitative analysis of six musicians’ career trajectories and the development of the social entrepreneurial venture, Gayle Mail, this study examines how the skills and executive functions nurtured through music education can be effectively translated into entrepreneurial capabilities. The research employs an autoethnographic case study methodology to delve into the lived experiences of individuals who have transitioned from music-focused backgrounds to entrepreneurial endeavors.
The study addresses several research questions, focusing on the contribution of formal music training to the development of executive functions, the role of music education in enhancing entrepreneurial skills, and the socio-economic implications of such transitions. Findings from the qualitative portraits and the Gayle Mail case study reveal that adaptability, resilience, creative problem-solving, and disciplined work ethic—skills honed through rigorous music education and performance—are directly transferable and beneficial in entrepreneurial ventures. Furthermore, the study highlights how the unique socio-cultural environment of Black American church music education contributes significantly to the development of these executive functions, supporting individuals in overcoming socio-economic challenges on their entrepreneurial journey.
This dissertation contributes to the fields of music education, entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship by providing empirical evidence on thetransferability of music-education-developed skills to entrepreneurial success. It also offers practical insights for educators, policymakers, and entrepreneurs on leveraging formal music education as a tool for enhancing entrepreneurial capabilities. The findings suggest avenues for future research, particularly in exploring the specific mechanisms through which music education impacts executive function development and identifying strategies to integrate these findings into music education and entrepreneurship education practices.

Access to entrepreneurship education in India : A study in both formal and informal ways for youths and young adults to acquire entrepreneurship skills and knowledge.Zahari, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
This thesis investigates the accessibility of formal and informal entrepreneurship education for youths and young adults in India. The study uncovers crucial patterns and indications, emphasising the need for accessible and comprehensive entrepreneurship education. It also highlights the limitations and weaknesses of the research, such as potential biases, small sample size, and challenges in online survey methodology. The existing literature in the field is discussed, noting its limitations in methodology, presentation, and argumentation. The research underscores the pressing need for comprehensive entrepreneurship education that bridges the gap between formal and informal channels. It addresses the heavy reliance on formal education, which has left many students and graduates without the necessary skills to combat high youth unemployment. Informal channels play a significant role but suffer from limited access to resources and quality education, leading to a skill gap among young adults. The findings call for blended learning approaches that integrate formal and informal entrepreneurship education, leveraging technological advancements. By adopting a holistic and inclusive approach, India can unlock its vast entrepreneurial potential, promote job creation, and stimulate economic growth. The thesis underscores the importance of critically evaluating the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education despite substantial investments in this area. In conclusion, enhancing the accessibility of entrepreneurship education for Indian youths and young adults requires addressing barriers, leveraging technology, and fostering a supportive environment. The study acknowledges the limitations and challenges faced in conducting research on this topic but emphasises the significance of striving for high-quality research to inform stakeholders and support the improvement of entrepreneurship in India.

The challenges of entrepreneurship education : a case study at a selected Ghanaian higher educational institutionObeng-Koranteng, Monica 01 1900 (has links)
The objectives, curriculum, pedagogy, teachers, and students are components of entrepreneurship education, perceived as challenges for its implementation and growth. Consequently, most research and discussions have focused on measures to improve them even though little is known about how they constrain entrepreneurship education. Not much is also known about any positive attributes they might have.
This study sought to address this gap in literature by exploring the attributes of these educational components, and how they impacted on teaching and learning in a higher education institution in Ghana. Adopting the qualitative case study research approach, data was collected from two classroom sessions, 20 students, four teachers and a programme coordinator, using observation, focus groups and face to face interviews respectively.
The study found the educational components had positive and negative attributes that impacted favourably and adversely on teacher decisions and behaviour, and on teaching and learning. The findings points to the need for a more holistic examination of the educational components by researchers and practitioners, to also focus on their merits, to help fashion out more effective and sustainable policies and strategies for entrepreneurship education.
The study contribute to literature by shedding light on some merits of the educational components and how they enhance teaching and learning and support the aims of entrepreneurship education. Further research to replicate this study or aspects of it in other contexts and populations is recommended. / Educational Management and Leadership / Ph. D. (Education Management)

Discursive practices in strategic entrepeneurship : discourses and the use of repertoires in two firmsHöglund, Linda January 2013 (has links)
This is a thesis in marketing concerned with entrepreneurship in established firms and the discursive practices that take place within a perspective of strategic entrepreneurship. The study of discursive practices in this context assumes a concern with how different aspects of entrepreneurship are produced and consumed by people in text and talk. Strategic entrepreneurship can be seen as an organisational form of entrepreneurship. The latest contribution within strategic entrepreneurship tends to focus on opportunities and advantages in organisations as two processes that need to be considered and managed jointly. In this thesis, I have studied the discursive practices of how scholars position strategic entrepreneurship through an enhanced literature review and by means of a close analysis of assumptions made within strategic entrepreneurship, but also by studying two firms and their discursive practices of constructing opportunity and advantage positions. The results have then been analysed with reference to discourse theory and previous research within entrepreneurship based on European traditions that builds on the linguistic turn. By conducting an empirical study of two firms, I have studied discourses in use, and how they are produced by people. In so doing, two main findings emerge in the discussion of the empirical results: 1) Opportunity and advantage positions emerge in social interaction and are co-constructed. 2) Opportunity and advantage positions are constructed by the use of multiple discourses, on different levels of discourse and for different functions. The main purpose of the thesis is to enhance the understanding of entrepreneurship in established firms and the activities labelled as strategic entrepreneurship. In addressing the purpose, seven theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions to research emerge in areas of strategic entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and the enterprising self.

The state of entrepreneurship and its socio-economic impact in the Cape Metropole areaKabengele, Thony Muzembe January 2018 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Business Administration))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2018. / Entrepreneurship is distinguished by its developmental and transformative qualities, particularly in the context of emerging economies. Entrepreneurship plays an important role in developing the economy of a country as the entrepreneur sparks economic activities through his/her entrepreneurial decisions. These entrepreneurial decisions lead to the creation of new business activities which in turn are a driving force in economic growth, creating jobs and enhancing fiscal credibility. However, the role of entrepreneurship in economic development varies from economy to economy and depends on the availability and accessibility of material resources, the industrial climate and the effectiveness of the political system underpinning the economy. In South Africa, there are major challenges that contribute to the unstable state of the economy. Retrenchments, the high failure rate of new businesses and the lack of growth in existing ones give credence to the summation that the South African economy is not expansively equipped to meet the challenges of a sustainable growth environment. A thriving entrepreneurial environment has significant benefits for job creation and the equitable distribution of economic wealth. In recent years, South African economists have been scrambling for solutions to the static economy that has seen a decline in new businesses of 34% from 2013 to 2014, resulting in continuing economic instability. Considering the trend highlighted above, the researcher was intrigued to examine the state of entrepreneurship and its socio-economic impact in the Cape Metropole Area. The researcher made use of a mixed-method research approach with an explanatory purpose, employing triangulation to achieve complementary results. The research invoked both interpretivist and positivist paradigms, though leaning towards the collection of qualitative data using semi-structured interviews and open-ended and closed questionnaires. The confidentiality of the information from respondents was ensured. The findings revealed that most entrepreneurs experience difficulty in accessing crucial entrepreneurial framework conditions, which hinders their activities. The findings also revealed that South Africa is at present not realising its job-creation potential and is therefore making little progress with unemployment and poverty reduction. In conclusion, entrepreneurs are essential to the economy and the society in any country regardless of its economic development. Their entrepreneurial decisions give hope to the growing number of unemployed people in South Africa. However, entrepreneurial activities are more fruitful in an environment that is condusive to buineess growth. Unless a favourable entrepreneurial environment is created, the entrepreneurial and labour classes will be incapable of realising their potential as a major engine for job creationand catalyst for economic growth. In South Africa, only a vigorous performance of the SMME sector and entrepreneurship, creating millions of sustainable jobs can stimulate economic growth and make it possible to reduce unemployment and for millions to escape the poverty trap. It is therefore recommended that the government and independent organisations work together to initiate programmes enabling existing and potential entrepreneurs to excel and initiate successful entrepreneurial activities. In general, there is a need for a macroeconomic environment that is friendly to labour-intensive investment, in order to generate spill-over growth effects, because entrepreneurs are more likely to invest productively, create jobs and contribute to poverty reduction.

for such results are pointed out and suggestions for future research are herein made / Os estudos relacionados ao empreendedorismo ainda est?o em fase inicial,
principalmente no Brasil.
N?o houve qualquer
outra diferen?a significativa entre os grupos. O segundo estudo, realizado no semestre

Entrepreneurs are expected to play a crucial role in times of unemployment and economical regression. A “hunt for entrepreneurs” can thus be said to be occurring as they appear to be people who can save nations, societies, and companies in troublesome situations. The project Diversity in Entrepreneurship (DiE) aimed to introduce a broad view of entrepreneurship in a regional context. Three development areas are emphasized that are strategically important to transforming a traditional industrial community into an entrepreneurial region: paying attention to the spirit of enterprise among underrepresented groups; stimulating entrepreneurship among young people; and considering the importance of culture in stimulating a diverse and entrepreneurial society. An equality discourse is introduced through DiE that – emphasising social and mundane occurrences - stands in contrast to the historically rooted enterprise discourse that proffers companies as productive apparatus, where a few competent people – often men – have been, and still are, in charge. In the equality discourse, all people in the region make a difference, not merely a few. The encounter of the two discourses has resulted in confusion, and thus conflicts and collisions; but also in new possibilities. A new perspective of entrepreneurship and regional development is developed where conflicts are put forward as constructive. That the two discourses met on the same regional scene is therefore seen as positive as many people have been made aware of the social, political, and economic contradictions which restrain some groups in society from creating a (working) life. Hence, the contradictions have enabled the inhabitants to see themselves, and others, as entrepreneurs in regional development processes. Openings have thus emerged to view entrepreneurship from a broader perspective that includes people, to create practices through which a more diverse working life is becoming discernible.

Research on women who run a one person businessHuang, Ya-lin 12 February 2007 (has links)
The evolvement of a knowledge-based economy and the internet has changed the pattern of occupation, shortening the career life cycle of various professions. For many people wanting to realize their dreams and continue their careers, the choice is to start their own enterprise. Women have been restricted for a long time owing to the binding traditional roles, expectations and the differing sexual values in society. When choosing an occupation, women were faced with more difficult considerations than men. Hence, recently both academics and industrialists have attached importance to the discussion of women entrepreneurs in Taiwan.
According to statistics from various countries, one-person business, a part of micro-business, is proportionally high in each nation. This could be seen as a common commercial pattern as well as an entrepreneurial model and also as an individual¡¦s choice of lifestyle. Many of these self-employed businesses, ¡¥non-companies¡¦, are in existence because they don¡¦t have complex organizational regulations and working procedures. They are seen in society as a matter of course and are often ignored. The numbers of one-person businesses and the SOHO population have increased due to the knowledge-based economy and the internet. Many people choose self-employment as a means to gain freedom, flexibility and independence. One-person business can be regarded as the easiest type out of all business to set up.
There are many reasons why women pursue one-person business as a career. This study is based on in-depth interviews which explore the reasons of contentment and motivation behind women entrepreneurs. It also sums up an evaluation of women prior to their own business and to understand women¡¦s ability to carry out business development opportunities. Finally, it concludes with an optimum model proposal for women¡¦s one-person business.

modelo utilizado define a Orientação Empreendedora sob à luz de três dimensões
sínteses: inovação, proatividade e propensão a riscos.
performance financeira diferenciadas no período.
proatividade média-alta e propensão a riscos média-baixa.
Salvador
