Critical success factors of automotive projects with suppliers:case study of successive developments of commercial vehicles panels.

Haraldo Rehder 29 May 2006 (has links)
The worldwide development of the Automotive Industry, as well as the Brazilian one, is characterized by the increase of importance of common projects of the automotive industries and their suppliers, which have passed from merely part suppliers to partners of development and technology, sharing investment and risks, transforming the project management with suppliers into a strategic factor of huge importance for the automotive industries. To investigate the critical success factors of Brazilian Automotive Project Management, it was studied three successive development projects of panels for commercial vehicles occurred between 1988 and 2002 in an important automotive industry. Based on literature research related to Quality, Project Management and Supplier Management, it was defined the application of the EFQM Project Excellence Model to research and classify the critical success factors of those projects. Participants of the three projects and stakeholders at different levels from the Automotive Industry and their Suppliers were interviewed and through the critical incident methodology, were detected the main positive factors, that lead to success and the main negative factors that lead to unsuccessfulness of the projects. The classification of those factors in Criteria and Categories allowed a systematic comparison of the projects and the definition of the critical success factors and the success factors. Research of the literature and interviews with participants on panel ´s development projects in other Automotive Industries showed the same tendencies of the three projects, which emphasized the increased responsibilities of the suppliers regarding the development and supplying of systems based on simultaneous engineering and co design. These researches showed the applicability of the Project Excellence Model Criteria in the classification of the project’s critical success factors and success factors and also showed the necessity of a subdivision, in Categories.

A retrospective view of the South African excellence model

Williams, June C. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / Traditionally, organisational performance and efficiency measurements have been focused on cost containment. Today, however, performance measurement systems of world-class organisations are tailored to drive manufacturing and service business excellence. Quality is crucial for gaining a competitive advantage internationally. Quality award programmes promote quality awareness, recognise the quality achievements of companies and provide a platform for sharing successful quality management initiatives. Quality award frameworks form the foundation for developing business excellence models. Business excellence models are based on the premise that customer satisfaction, people (employee) satisfaction and impact on society are all achieved through leadership driving the policy and strategy, the people management, resources and processes, leading ultimately to excellence in business results. In this paper five of the most prominent international business excellence models are discussed. The success stories of companies that have implemented these models are looked at and the South African Excellence Model is compared with these five international models. The aim of the study is to analyse the South African Business Excellence Model as compared to international models such as the Deming Prize, the MBNQA, the EFQM, the AQA and the SQA. Case studies of two companies, Combine Cargo and Daimler Chrysler, are analysed with the aim of determining the shortcomings of the SAEM and the effects of the SAEM on business practices. Conclusions are drawn based on the experiences of these businesses, in order to verify the shortcomings and the effects of the SAEM. Lastly, the reasons for the failure of the SAEF and the SAEM are investigated and recommendations and guidelines are given for the revival of the SAEM and the promotion of quality in South Africa.

Measuring service excellence in banking industry using an integrated approach : an empirical study in the Saudi context

Al-Rayes, Raed Nasser January 2006 (has links)
The research sought to investigate the Critical Excellence Factors (CEFs) that drive Excellence in banking industry. Moreover, it examines whether customers perceive the service of an excellent bank differently from a less-excellent bank. Three hypotheses were formed then tested through case study and survey strategy (triangulation), within the Saudi banking industry context. The study combines the EFQM excellence model as an internal assessment tool (case studies), with the SERVQUAL gap model for external assessment (questionnaires). Analysing and contrasting the two sets of results allowed the study to achieve its main objective. Based on the empirical work, the study identifies several CEFs that must be carefully considered when driving excellence in banking. These factors were proposed in a generic integrated model for driving Excellence in Banking.

This study aims to evaluate a group of 10 large builders, focusing on residential or commercial work, according to the criteria of the Management Excellence Model (MEM) of the National Quality Foundation (NQF). A questionnaire was adapted from NFQ and answered by the president or CEO of companies surveyed, as the sole builder of winning the National Quality Award (NQA). The survey results showed that the companies surveyed have a good level of quality management, with companies focusing on business performance works more subtly. Data analysis was performed considering the seven criteria: customers, society, leadership, strategies and plans, people, processes, and finally information and knowledge. The main conclusion of this study is that despite the good level of management of the companies surveyed, there is an imbalance of the shares in these companies as to the criteria of MEM, with overvaluation of the criteria procedures, and reduced recovery of actions directed to the criteria society. In comparison with the company winning the NQA, one of the companies showed indicators of high excellence in its management process and may initiate a process of competition to the NQA / O contexto em que as grandes construtoras brasileiras estão inseridas neste ano de 2010, com aumento do financiamento imobiliário e investimentos estatais, tem propiciado grandes oportunidades nesse setor.
