Sara och Rut : Om gamla testamentets matriarkala mödrar ur ett tidlöst perspektiv i en mansdominerad värld / Sara and Ruth : The matriarch mothers of the old testament from a timeless perspective in a male preoccupied world

Nyman Wikström, Maria January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate Sarah and Ruth – the matriarchs and women of The Old Testament – as women in a world dominated by men, and the issue in this study is about what contextual symbolism and function Sarah and Ruth have with the starting point from their contextual roles and status in a world of patriarchs. The method of this study is the hermeneutic attempt to create an interpretive community combined with descriptions from religious texts and research. This study comes to the conclusion that the biblical women Sarah and Ruth in their chosenness have the gift and values of timelessness sprung from virtues of faithful love, smartness, firmness, pride and loyalty in a world where men, for good and for worse, set the boundaries but women suffer the consequences.

Salafi Jihadism, Disengagement, and the Monarchy: Exploring the case of Morocco

Filali, Abdelkader 15 October 2019 (has links)
What meanings have formerly engaged (radicalized) Salafists ascribed to their disengagement and how have they become embedded in their everyday lives? There are two narratives that can explain this question. On the one hand, there is a central inclusive narrative that suggest the institutionalization of the religious terrain in Morocco through the Institution of the Commander of the Faithful (mou’assassat imarat al mou’minine) or ICF, which allows the Monarchy to play the king-religious role as the guarantor of religion and other faiths. On the other hand, Salafi Jihadists represent the second exclusive narrative through a religious concept that has taken a violent understanding called “loyalty and disavowal” (Al Wal’a wal Bar’a) or WB. The power of this narrative lies in the ability to divide society into a near and far enemy. Put it another way, to ask how those very meanings affect their everyday lives, a change in Salafi worldview for example allows them to live lives that seemed not possible before far from violence. As a result, there is no one picture of disengagement. Disengagement happens very differently in each case. Specifically, we argue that Salafi Jihadists’ disengagement has been informed, and shaped, by the meanings they attribute to their experiences in the everyday life. As such, this thesis is not about process, or pathways, or models of engagement and disengagement it is about meanings each one assigns to his or her experience. In addition to advancing theories of violent radicalization and disengagement from violence, this thesis makes a methodological contribution to the study of the meanings of disengagement through an ethnographic fieldwork in Morocco and Jordan.

A characterization of faithful representations of the Toeplitz algebra of the ax+b-semigroup of a number ring

Wiart, Jaspar 15 August 2013 (has links)
In their paper [2] Cuntz, Deninger, and Laca introduced a C*-algebra \mathfrak{T}[R] associated to a number ring R and showed that it was functorial for injective ring homomorphisms and had an interesting KMS-state structure, which they computed directly. Although isomorphic to the Toeplitz algebra of the ax+b-semigroup R⋊R^× of R, their C*-algebra \mathfrak{T}[R] was defined in terms of relations on a generating set of isometries and projections. They showed that a homomorphism φ:\mathfrak{T}[R]→ A is injective if and only if φ is injective on a certain commutative *-subalgebra of \mathfrak{T}[R]. In this thesis we give a direct proof of this result, and go on to show that there is a countable collection of projections which detects injectivity, which allows us to simplify their characterization of faithful representations of \mathfrak{T}[R]. / Graduate / 0405 / jaspar.wiart@gmail.com

The abuse of church leadership : a pastoral care perspective

Moje, Khumoetsile Dorcas 28 November 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to help people who have been hurt by bad leadership, and also to find out why they move from one church to the other. This is an undercover issue since in most cases the Pentecostal church family projects strength than weakness. This study deals with people who have been hurt by bad leadership that verbally attacks and curses them from the pulpit. The pulpit is already a position of power and if not handled rightly, it has negative ramification on the hearers. One of it is the mobility of membership, from one Assembly to the other in search for more understanding and encouraging atmosphere. This particular abuse of power has been a burning issue within some of the Pentecostal churches and has been overlooked and without any redress. Therefore this thesis attempts through pastoral care approach, to deal with these issues, that have affected some church members. The problem in the study has been extensively explained and a method of helping and healing those that are hurt is also projected substantially. The different types of leadership and leadership qualities are also tabulated and explained to enable an understanding that people deserve a better approach. Since the researcher has been in the church for a long time, and through observation has experienced how some people were verbally abused from the pulpit has motivated her to conduct a research. Specially, on how to care for those who are wounded in spirit, as she mentioned some of the members have been hurt for almost three decades, yet they are still looking for a church where they can be spiritually fulfilled. It is appropriate to make this valuable research in the field of practical theology as the generated knowledge, shall help the people to heal the hurts and stabilize. It is reasonable to surmise that when a miss-normal is perpetuated without any challenge it takes a toll and becomes a standard behaviour. This research refuses to remain silent and has exposed and projected a healing solution to the plight of members that the pulpit victimises whether consciously and unconsciously. The willingness of the interviewees in these case studies is also highly commended as it roots the studies in concrete realities and generates lessons that are based on real life research. Faithful presence in a context of conflict : a missional case study of ELCSA in Tembisa West

Mkhize, Thabani E. January 2020 (has links)
The focus of this research is the study of unity in mission and coping with conflict as a way of being faithfully present. Researching unity in mission in a divided congregation is important because it may relate, not only to the congregation, but also, in a broader sense, to the experience in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (ELCSA) and other denominations. While the review of literature provided background information on the theology of faithful presence including the theologies of place and place presence, a further review was conducted on the theology of mission as reconciliation as a way of being faithfully present. The study addresses this gab in literature and research by investigating the role of mission in helping congregants cope with church conflict and staying faithfully present in their situation. To achieve this goal, congregants lived experience of their congregational life in the midst of conflict was revealed and analysed using phenomenology as the most suitable method for data gathering, analysis and interpretation. Phenomenological approach was chosen simple because of its capability of providing congregants’ personal account of their experience. The question that needed to be understood was whether congregants still had time, space and motivation to be with the people God is sending them to. The primary goal is to understand congregants lived experience under the influence of conflict and how these congregants remained faithfully present in their situation. The secondary aim is to recommend ways and means of reconciliation most relevant to their situation particularly where subjects are not role players in the conflict. The researcher was interested in finding out if using mission as reconciliation can, in meaningful ways, move the reconciliation process forward. The research found a direct correlation between conflict and the mission of the church. As the conflict continued to manifest, congregants developed a lack of trust in the leadership of the church, which motivated them to practice mission unilaterally outside the precincts of the church. As this unfolded, the congregation became irrelevant, its mission suffered and the congregational life became less meaningful. The congregation as a community of sent people, became too internally focused, losing its sting as a missional force in the neighbourhood. / Dissertation (MTh)--University of Pretoria, 2020. / Science of Religion and Missiology / MTh / Unrestricted
