Edition and Translation of the Arabic Manuscript Collection Belonged to Fakhr al-din al-Razi on Kalam Atomism / Edition et traduction d'un recueil manuscrit en langue arabe de Fakhr al-dis al-Razi Sur ’atomisme dans le Kalam

Eftekhari, Banafsheh 17 March 2017 (has links)
Fakhr al-Din al-Razi is a significant philosopher who is famous for his critics on Avicenna. He also made effective dialogues between two rival doctrines (namely Kalam and Peripateticism) in the Islamic world in Middle Ages. He defended Kalam Atomism in last decades of his life. This thesis is working on his two treatises as manuscripts and translating it into English. One of the treatises is about proving atom and another one is rejecting Hylomorphism. These two treatises are attached together as a manuscript book titled as Proving Atomism.

Fakhr al-Dīn al Rāzī's methodology in interpreting the Qurān

Kafrawi, Shalahudin. January 1998 (has links)
Many studies have been done of Fakhr al-Dinal-Razi and his system of thought, taking into account his contributions from theology, philosophy, and exegesis. However, works specifically devoted to his exegetical thought have been few. In fact, none of these has dealt with al-Razi's exegetical methodology in the light of his basic assumptions regarding the Qur'an. In view of this fact, the present thesis aims at elucidating Fakhr al-Din al-Razi's methodology in interpreting the Qur'an in his magnum opus, known by the title al-Tafsir al-Kabir or Mafatih&dotbelow; al-Ghayb. In order to achieve this purpose, we will focus on his interpretation of the third chapter of the Qur'an, printed in volumes 7, 8, and 9 of the standard edition of his work. / In overall terms, al-Razi contributed greatly to the dissemination of a rational approach to the study of the Qur'an. Yet, he could not avoid the debate over theological issues, which were common in his time. In many parts of his al-Tafsir al-Kabir, therefore, he defends Ash'arite thought against the views of Mu'tazilites, Z&dotbelow;ahirites, and the H&dotbelow;ashwiyyah, among others. Gudssyn inom den sufiska poesin : En jämförelse mellan Jalal ad-din Rumi och Fakhr al-din Araqi / Views of God in Sufipoetry : A comparison between Jalal ad-din Rumi and Fakhr al-din Araqi

Svensson, Daniel January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to compare the works of Jalal ad-din Rumi and Fakhr al-din Araqi to see which ideas of God the two writers want to convey. Rumi and Araqi were two actors in the mystical dimension of Islam, who lived in the thirteenth century in what is today Turkey. Both were of Persian birth and their works were written in Persian. The material I have chosen to work with is Lama´at by Araqi and parts of the Masnavi by Rumi. Both of them have been translated into Swedish by Ashk Dahlén. The theoretical premiss is taken from Influence in art and literature by Göran Hermerén. My method is to find images for God in the texts to see which ideas of God the two writers want to convey. My review shows that many of the images come from the Koran and speak of personal qualities of God. Some of them also specify that God is not located at the same level as the humans. A few passages compare God with natural phenomenon like the sun and the ocean. To sum up, God is represented as a powerful being who does not exist on the same level as the humans. By applying Hermerén´s theory, I conclude that there are influences between the two writers. Their work and the images they have chosen are similar in many aspects. These influences are most likely the result of the fact that both of the writers existed within the same cultural context and under the influence of Ibn Arabi.

Trade, diplomacy and state formation in the early modern Mediterranean : Fakhr al-Dīn II, the Sublime Porte and the court of Tuscany

Olsaretti, Alessandro. January 2005 (has links)
This thesis explores the relations between the Druze emir Fakhr al-Din II Ma'n and three successive Medici Grand Dukes between 1605 and 1633. Eschewing traditional historiographical concerns with the origins of Lebanese nationalism and the cultural encounter between East and West, I have sought first and above all to locate relations between this powerful emir and the Court of Tuscany within the broader context of Mediterranean history. / I suggest that the actions of Fakhr al-Din and of the Medici Grand Dukes have to be understood in relation to broad, long-term trends in the economic and social history of the Mediterranean. I explore two of these trends in detail: the breakdown in commercial and diplomatic relations between Florence (and then Tuscany) and the Ottoman empire during the course of the sixteenth century; the bargaining between the Porte and provincial power-holders in the Syrian provinces in the century following the Ottoman conquest.
