Gullbrand, Kerstin January 2015 (has links)

Nyckelord: ras kön nationalsocialism religion diskursanalys feminism

Feminism and the politics of identity in Ingrid de Kok’s Familiar Ground

Mashige, MC 04 July 2011 (has links)
Through an analysis of selected representative poems from Ingrid de Kok’s Familiar Ground, this article examines the role played by feminist poetry in the quest to address gender-related issues as well as to contribute constructively to South Africa’s liberation from patriarchal apartheid. The article further argues that feminist writers desire to (re)negotiate the space within which they can (re)construct and articulate their identities as women and mothers, and that in such a context the politics of identity cannot be detached from other aspects within the struggle for socio-political and economic emancipation. Thus characteristics of apartheid oppression are contrasted with the patriarchal domination opposed by feminist writers.

DEBATING 'ISLAMIC FEMINISM': BETWEEN TURKISH SECULAR FEMINIST AND NORTH AMERICAN ACADEMIC CRITIQUES

TOMAC, AYCA 20 September 2011 (has links)
This project questions western hegemonic discourse about the non-western Other, specifically the Muslim woman subject, through a post-colonial critical point of view. It takes the debate on Islamic feminism, especially in North American academy as a departure point of a discussion relating that discourse to the western feminist arguments over the usefulness and nature of Islamic feminism. The project has two phases: One summarizes and discusses the Islamic feminism debate in North American academia while second takes secular feminism in contemporary Turkey as a field of study where the debates on Islamic feminism in North America resonate and are reproduced at the discursive level. The project analyzes the special volume of secular feminist journal Pazartesi on religion in order to ask whether a colonialist/orientalist discourse underpins the refusal to acknowledge Islamic feminism as a feminist endeavour for gender equality from within Islam for both the western academic community and secular feminist circles in Turkey. / Thesis (Master, Gender Studies) -- Queen's University, 2011-09-20 13:45:55.496

Reading Hemingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants” as a Feminist Text / En läsning utav Hemingways “Kullar som vita elefanter” som en feminist text

Lee, Robin January 2014 (has links)
This essay performs an in-depth analysis of the feminist patterns of “Hills Like White Elephants”. This reading reevaluates the text’s meaning and shows the reader that it in fact is a feminist text. I argue that if the text is read with this gender perspective in mind, it is clear that Jig succeeds in protecting her own unborn child. I also argue that HLWE is a true feminist text, since it shows us not only the power and will of a woman but it also strongly critiques the American and his manner of conducting himself. The text starts out with an introduction which is followed by an analysis of Jig’s point of view and a linguistic analysis of the text. The last part of the essay consists of a step by step close reading of ”Hills Like White Elephants.”
