Les trois chapitres de cette thèse étudient les choix financiers des ménages au cours de leur vie. Le premier s’intéresse à la décision de devenir un entrepreneur, le second au choix d’investir en bourse et le troisième à la valeur des droits à la retraite.Dans le premier chapitre, j’utilise des données administratives françaises sur les entrepreneurs créateurs d’emplois pour estimer un modèle de cycle de vie dans lequel des individus averses au risque peuvent créer une entreprise et retourner vers l’emploi salarié. J’estime que les bénéfices inobservés de l’entrepreneuriat représentent 6 100 euros par an, soit 67 000 sur la durée de vie d’une entreprise. L’option de retourner vers le salariat vaut, quant à elle, 82 000 euros pour les nouveaux entrepreneurs.Dans le second chapitre, j’estime un modèle de choix de portefeuille qui prend en compte la relation entre les rendements du marché boursier et l’asymétrie des chocs idiosyncratique de revenue. La cyclicité de cette asymétrie peut expliquer pourquoi les ménages jeunes ou à la richesse modestes investissent peu en bourse, et pourquoi la part de leur richesse investie en action croit jusqu’à l’âge de la retraite.Dans le troisième chapitre, je calibre un modèle de choix de portefeuille dans lequel le marché du travail est celui des actions sont cointegrés. J’estime que l’équivalent certain des droits à la retraites pour les ménages salariés est de 46% inférieur à la somme des paiements annualisés au taux sans risque. Au niveau national, la valeur ajustée des droits à la retraite est de 19.6 trillions de dollars, soit 37% de moins que la valeur non-ajustée de 31 trillions. / The three chapters of this thesis study households’ financial decisions over the life-cycle. The first chapter focuses on the decision to become an entrepreneur, the second on the choice to invest in stock market and the third on the value of pension entitlements.In the first chapter, I use French administrative data on job-creating entrepreneurs to estimate a life-cycle model in which risk-averse individuals can start businesses and return to paid employment. I find that unobserved benefits represent 6,100 euros per year, summing up to 67,000 over the average entrepreneurial spell. The option to return to paid employment is worth 82,000 euros to new entrepreneurs.In the second chapter, I estimate a life-cycle model of portfolio choices that incorporates the relationship between stock market returns and the skewness of idiosyncratic income shocks. The cyclicality of skewness can explain low stock market participation among young households with modest financial wealth and why the equity share of participants slightly increases until retirement.In the third chapter, I calibrate a life-cycle model in which the stock and labor markets are cointegrated and Social Security benefits are wage-indexed. I find that the certainty equivalent of Social Security for working households is 46% lower than the sum of future cash flows discounted at the risk-free rate and negative for young households. At the national scale, the risk-adjusted value of Social Security entitlements is 19.6 trillion dollars, which is 37% lower than the unadjusted value of 31 trillion dollars.

« Imaginez que vous pouviez construire une ville qui est partagée. »L’image d’un monde partagé, séparé, voilà ce qu’il nous reste. Finalement,c’est tout ce qu’il y a dire. Chaque chose est bien à sa place. Tout est bien en mouvement. Sous le son de la lyre et l’ombre de l’épée, la frontière se pousse toujours vers l’avant. Et elle reste. Elle fonce vers un avenir toujours jamais là. Au-delà de l’Arbre sec, elle ne trouve jamais que le même. Et de ce côté-ci, celui de la ville, jamais n’a-t-on été autant réunie en si grande proximité… en si grande promiscuité. En 1941, entre l’Espagne et la France, Benjamin compose ses dernières lignes : « Il ne me reste pas assez de temps pour écrire toutes ses lettres que j’eusse voulu écrire » (Adorno & Benjamin, 2006, p. 390). Il laisse derrière lui son Livre des passages, monumental projet inachevé dont le temps alimentera l’aura. Composé d’images en apparence éloignées - structures de métal, jeu, Baudelaire, caricatures– mais rapprochés par leur collage minutieux, à leur rencontre nous y trouvons pourtant la fulgurante lumière de la connaissance. 70 ans plus tard, la méthode comme les réflexions de Benjamin restent imprimées sur le ciel contemporain,porteuses d’une richesse toujours actuelle. Ce mémoire situé dans la tradition matérialiste, entre empirie et théorie, propose le collage de cinq situations : Second Life, Etsy, Voyage, Airbnb et l’oeuvre de Benjamin. Les uns au côté des autres, ils apportent un éclairage à la fois sur eux-mêmes, réalité matérielle, que sur une dialectique entre technologie, techniques, espace et lieu : le rapport entre le proche et le lointain. Guy Debord, le Nouveau Testament, la mystique juive et, bien sûr, Walter Benjamin seront nos guides dans cette quête dont le sens est défini par l’impératif de l’action. / « Imagine if you could build a city that is shared. »The image of a shared, separated, world, is what we have left. This thesis in the materialist tradition, between empiry and theory, proposes the collage of five situations : Second Life, Etsy, Voyage,Airbnb and the work of Benjamin itself, which one beside the other brings lighting simultaneously on themselves, material reality, and on a dialectic between technology, technic, space and place : the relationship between the nearby and thefaraway. Guy Debord, the New Testament, the Jewish mystic and, of course, Walter Benjamin will be our guides in that quest whose meaning will be defined by the imperative of action.

La quête de légitimité des multinationales : la création d'un mécanisme de règlement de différends relatifs à la modération de contenu sur Facebook et Instagram

M.) et Université Paris-Saclay, Cachan, France, Master (M.). / La présente étude met en lumière le développement d'une nouvelle sorte d'institution à caractère judiciaire : le Facebook Oversight Board (ci-après « FOB »). Cet organe a pour fonction de trancher les litiges découlant de la modération de contenu des plateformes appartenant à l'entreprise multinationale Meta, Facebook et Instagram. Comme le FOB est une nouvelle initiative, l'inconnu persiste autour de son fonctionnement et du champ de sa compétence. Cet organe répond à certains besoins des utilisateurs des deux plateformes et de la population en général, mais en même temps il sert à Meta d'instrument de légitimation. D'ailleurs, il commence à y avoir un intérêt des gouvernements et des législateurs à l'égard de ce type d'instrument. La Commission européenne a récemment adopté une loi comprenant des dispositions inspirées de celles instituant le FOB. En plus d'examiner les caractéristiques de cet organe par l'étude des documents encadrant son organisation et son fonctionnement, ce mémoire analyse de manière critique son statut à la lumière des qualités essentielles d'un tribunal : l'indépendance et l'impartialité. / This study puts light on a new form of judicial institution: the Facebook Oversight Board (FOB). This institution's function is to solve disputes arising from content moderation on social media websites belonging to the multinational company Meta, Facebook and Instagram. Considering the FOB is a new initiative, mystery lingers around its operation and its scope. This institution meets some of the users' needs on both social media platforms as well as the general population's needs, but it also serves as a legitimization tool for Meta. Moreover, governments and legislators are starting to show interest towards this type of instrument. The European commission has recently passed legislation containing provisions resembling the FOBs. In addition to analyzing this institution's characteristics by studying the documents governing its structure and its operations, this thesis critically analyzes its status according to the essential qualities of a tribunal: independence and fairness.

Esta pesquisa esteve focada em analisar a Armação da Piedade, que nada mais era que uma grande unidade produtora escravista no litoral catarinense, contando com uma complexa estrutura e um bom número de trabalhadores livres e escravos. Também foram objetivos compreender a estrutura da posse escrava e a participação dos escravos nas fortunas locais e aprofundar as discussões referentes às relações de trabalho e estratégias de sobrevivência das pessoas que ali residiam, buscando desvendar o que Schwartz denominou "segredos internos", compreendendo seus mecanismos internos e as relações sociais que vigoravam dentro destas pequenas e médias propriedades. Além disto, a participação dos libertos nesta sociedade também esteve no foco deste trabalho. As fontes utilizadas para esta pesquisa incluem inventários de particulares (1833-1860) e um inventário da Armação da Piedade, além de registros de batismo, óbito e casamento que auxiliam no cruzamento de fontes. Com o auxílio de literatura pertinente, essas fontes foram determinantes para que o objetivo deste trabalho fosse concluído.

Visual monitoring of leaf flush from the forest floor is time consuming and difficult against an overcast sky. Seasonal trends of vegetation indices from orbital sensors have been challenged due to artifacts from seasonal trends in solar illumination angle. Tower-mounted RGB cameras are an attractive alternative. The Green Chromatic Coordinate (GC = green brightness divided by summed brightness of the three RGB channels) has been employed for this purpose. However, subtle seasonal change of tropical forest GC at landscape-scale may be of smaller amplitude than artifacts related to color balance, crown shadow size, illumination angle, exposure speed and sensor drift. Furthermore, gradual change in GC is affected by both leaf age and leaf amount. Nonetheless, abrupt GC change of large amplitude occurs at the individual crown scale and can be reliably attributed to massive leaf flush or leaf loss events. We analyzed a full year of daily images from an RGB camera mounted 50 m above the forest canopy at the Amazon Tall Tower site (59.0ºW, 2.1ºS), on a well-drained plateau. We minimized artifacts by maintaining the sun behind the camera, accepting only images with diffuse illumination, by giving equal weight to each tree crown and by radiometric inter-calibration of all selected images against a standard. For each of 267 individual crown areas we then prepared a greenness timeline of daily GC values. Eighty-two percent of these upper canopy crowns showed a clear episode of rapid and massive leaf flush (smoothed GC slope >0.01/month, sustained for at least 0.5 month and peaking above 75th percentile of daily GC values) and 30% showed massive rapid leaf drop (smoothed GC slope <-0.01/month, sustained for at least 0.5 month, ending below 25th percentile of daily GC values). Flushing was strongly concentrated in the five driest months (50% of all crowns) compared to the five wettest months (10% of all crowns). This contradicts the recently proposed photo-period control over humid equatorial tree phenology. Trees with both abrupt leaf drop and abrupt leaf flush reached minimum greenness 26 +/- 16 days prior to maximum greenness, indicating that leaf drop was a brief preamble to dry season leaf flush. / A fenologia foliar tem sido apontada como vetor da sazonalidade da capacidade fotossintética do dossel florestal e do fluxo de carbono na Amazônia Central. O monitoramento visual a partir do chão é demorado e difícil, sobretudo, contra um céu nublado. Mudanças sazonais nos índices de vegetação obtidos por sensores orbitais têm sido questionados devido a tendências sazonais no ângulo de iluminação solar. Câmeras RGB montadas em torres são uma atrativa opção. A coordenada cromática verde (GC = brilho no canal verde dividido pela soma do brilho dos três canais RGB) tem sido empregada para este propósito. Entretanto, sutis mudanças sazonais no GC das florestas tropicais em escala de paisagem podem ter menor amplitude do que os artefatos relacionados com o balanço de cores, tamanho da sombra das copas, ângulo de iluminação, velocidade de exposição e deriva do sensor. Nós analisamos um ano de imagens diárias obtidas por uma câmera RGB instalada a 50 metros acima do dossel florestal no sítio Observatório de Torre Alta da Amazônia (59.00ºW, 2.14ºS), em um platô bem drenado. Nós minimizamos os artefatos mantendo o sol atrás da câmera, aceitando apenas imagens de iluminação difusa, dando peso igual a cada uma das copas e procedendo a intercalibração radiométrica de todas as imagens selecionadas contra uma imagem padrão. Para cada uma das 267 áreas de copas individuais, nós então preparamos uma linha temporal do verdor com valores diários de GC. Oitenta e dois por cento destas copas do dossel superior mostrou um claro episódio de rápido e massivo flush foliar (inclinação suavizada do GC > 0,01/mês, sustentada por pelo menos 15 dias, culminando acima do 75º percentil dos valores diários do GC) e 30% mostrou uma perda rápida e massiva de folhas (inclinação suavizada do GC < -0,01/mês, sustentada por pelo menos 15 dias, atingindo valores abaixo do 25º percentil dos valores diários do GC). O flush foliar foi fortemente concentrado nos cinco meses mais secos (50% de todas as copas) comparado com os cinco meses mais chuvosos (10% de todas as copas). Isto contradiz o recentemente proposto controle por fotoperíodo na fenologia foliar das árvores na região equatorial úmida. Árvores com abrupta perda e emissão de folhas atingiram o seu verdor mínimo 26 +/- 16 dias antes do verdor máximo, indicando que a perda de folhas foi um rápido preâmbulo para o flush foliar na estação seca.

Satellite observed Amazon green-up during the 2005 drought remains controversial, with green-up attributed by some to cloud/aerosol contamination. Satellite detection of dry-season green-up in years of normal rainfall is also confounded in the southern Amazon by decreasing solar zenith angle. To address these concerns by direct assessment of changes in the forest canopy, a high-resolution (1028x720p) 3-band video camera was mounted 54 m above the forest floor on an eddy covariance tower 60 km north of Manaus. Camera aim was south, perpendicular to the solar transit, with an oblique downward view. Automatic color balance was turned off. For 134 days from the middle of the dry season to mid rainy season (23 Sept, 2010 to 03 Feb, 2011) one frame was captured every 10s. From these, a single frame was chosen per day, obtained under diffuse solar illumination near local noon with minimal variation (< +-10%) in overall reflected scene brightness. Auto-exposure of the camera compensated this minor variation. Changes in greenness and woodiness were examined using three approaches: (1) visual classification of transition types for all trees that underwent marked full-crown changes during the dry season; (2) relative green channel brightness averaged over the entire frame; and (3) unstandardized Principal Component Analysis of the entire frame to remove spatial variations in illumination (PC1) and estimate area of exposed bark (threshold of PC2). Of 13 trees that underwent full-crown transitions in the first month (dry season), 11 were experiencing some stage of leaf flush . Relative brightness of the green channel over the entire frame showed that a flush of new leaves was already taking place at the beginning of the study and continued at least into October, when leaf maturation caused changes in leaf colors, limiting the usefulness of this indicator. The area of exposed bark decreased steeply during the mid-dry season leaf flush and further suggested that leafing-out continued at a slower pace into the rainy season. Due to spectral stability of exposed bark over time, this is a more reliable indicator of leaf phenology than the leaves themselves. The results of this study contribute an understanding of what controls seasonality of vegetation greenness in Amazonia and its photosynthesis response. / Existe um debate em curso sobre a resposta das florestas na Amazônia às secas extremas e às variações sazonais normais. Observações a partir de um sensor orbital de green-up na Amazônia durante a seca de 2005 permanecem controversas, com grande parte do fenômeno atribuído a contaminações por nuvens/aerossóis. Detecção por satélite do green-up no sul da Amazônia na estação seca foi atribuída ao artefato de sazonalidade no ângulo solar. Para avaliar mais diretamente as mudanças no dossel de uma floresta de terra firme da Amazônia Central, utilizou-se uma câmera de vídeo com três bandas na faixa do visível, resolução de 1028x720 pixels, fixa 54 m acima do chão da floresta em uma torre de covariância de fluxo, 60 km ao norte de Manaus. A mira da câmera foi ao sul, perpendicular ao trânsito solar, e obliqua para baixo. Foi desligada a compensação automática de cor (color-balance). Ao longo de 134 dias entre o pico da estação seca e o meio da estação chuvosa (23-set, 2010 a 03-fev, 2011), foi capturado um frame a cada 10 s. Foi selecionado ~um frame por dia, sob iluminação solar difusa, próximo ao meio-dia local e com variação < +/-10% no brilho geral refletido. A exposição automática da câmera compensou esta variação. As mudanças em greenness e madeirosidade foram medidas usando três abordagens: (1) classificação visual de tipos de transição para todas as árvores que experimentaram mudanças na copa por inteiro, durante o pico da estação seca; (2) médio, em todo o frame, do brilho relativo do canal verde; e (3) análise de componentes principais, com dados não padronizados, sobre todo o frame, para remover variações espaciais na iluminação (PC1) e estimar a área de madeira exposta (limiar do PC2). Das treze árvores que sofreram uma transição completa da copa na estação seca, onze experimentaram algum estágio de flush foliar. O brilho relativo do canal verde mostrou que este flush de folhas novas já estava acontecendo no início do estudo e continuou pelo menos até outubro, quando a maturação das folhas causou mudanças na sua coloração, limitando o uso desse indicador. A área de madeira exposta diminuiu abruptamente durante a estação seca e continuou caindo em ritmo menor no decorrer da estação chuvosa. Este indicador foi considerado mais confiável, devido a sua estabilidade espectral. Os resultados deste estudo contribuem para o entendimento da real sazonalidade de greenness da vegetação na Amazônia e sua resposta à fotossíntese.
