Säger en arkivbild också mer än tusen ord? : – En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om användandet av arkivbilder inom lokaljournalistiken

Stolt Hansson, Linn, Johansson, Gabriella January 2021 (has links)

Vliv sociálních médií na novinářskou práci / Social media's influence on journalism

Vosátková, Lenka January 2016 (has links)
This Master's thesis entitled "Social Media's Influence on Journalism" focuses on the effects new communication technologies, especially social media, has on journalist's. These effects are examined in regard to four major aspects of journalism - the individual, journalistic routine, work with information sources and ethical standards. The theoretical frame focuses on current trends in media, specifically social media, and the routines of journalists with a main focus on newsgathering and sorting of news. This has been strongly linked to gatekeeping theory. Qualitative research was conducted using Semi-structured in-depth interviews to answer research questions. Seven journalists, representing various facets of journalism, from a number of Czech daily newspapers were interviewed. The interviews were divided into four main parts to find out which social media platforms are used, how social media has changed routines, how social media is used as a source of information and how ethical standards may have changed. Open and axial coding was used to analyse the data obtained from the interviews. Results showed that journalists utilise social media at work on a daily basis and it has become an integral part of their routines. The main platforms used are Facebook, especially to find and connect sources,...

Way-Finding: A New Approach to Studying Digital Communications

Glade, William Daniel 01 June 2019 (has links)
This work further develops the way-finding model first proposed by Pearson and Kosicki (2017) which examines the flow of information in the digital age. Way-finding systems are online systems that help individuals find information—i.e. social media, search engines, email, etc. Using a grounded theory methodology, this new framework was explored in greater detail. Way-finding theory was created using the context of the elaboration likelihood model, gatekeeping theory, algorithmic gatekeepers, and the existence of the filter bubble phenomenon. This study establishes the three basic pillars of way-finding theory: the user’s mindset when accessing way-finding systems, the perception of how popular way-finding systems function, and the perception of the information personalization process—particularly regarding algorithmic gatekeepers and their roles in creating the filter bubble phenomenon. These pillars and the relationships that exist between each constitute way-finding theory.

Swedish News for Koreans : A study on ethnic media for Koreans in Sweden

Mosesson, Marcus January 2020 (has links)
This study investigates a Facebook page named Sŭweden nyusŭ, which stands as an example of ethnicmedia targeting Koreans living in Sweden. Having gatekeeping theory as the theoretical frameworkand using a quantitative-qualitative media content analysis, the study looks at what news topics andnews sources are most used by the page, whether and how the news are presented objectively orsubjectively, as well as how the page’s followers react to the page’s content and how the page’sadministrator deals with these reactions. The study found that news topics related to economy andpolitics are the most prevalent, while the daily Dagens Nyheter is the most cited news source. Some ofthe news stories are presented subjectively, and the followers’ reactions are in general positive butalso inquiring and occasionally even negative and critical. The administrator usually tries to cater forthe followers’ demands and questions, but sometimes ignores or even questions their remarks. As thestudy also has the general goal of getting insight into the Korean community in Sweden, the findingssuggest the following. Firstly, Sŭweden nyusŭ compensates for what the community’s few existingethnic media channels lack. Secondly, some Koreans in Sweden who lack Swedish language skillsmay even be considered poorly integrated into the Swedish majority society. However, as forKoreans’ level of integration into the Swedish majority society, further research is needed in order toconfirm what the actual state is. The study therefore recommends more research to be conducted onthis topic, as well as on the subject of ethic media in Sweden in general.

Women's Access to School Superintendency Roles

Solomon, Dana 12 1900 (has links)
Men continue to outnumber women in public school superintendent roles by a 4:1 ratio. However, women outnumber men by a 4:1 ratio in teaching roles in public school districts. In addition, more women than men hold superintendent certificates and educational doctorates. Due to this puzzling discrepancy, it is important to understand possible factors in the form of gendered barriers to access that could lead to the unequal representation of women in superintendent positions. In this study, I examined how these barriers manifested in the experiences of female superintendents participating in the study, how they influenced the hiring experiences of these participants, and how they impacted these female leaders throughout their careers. With this study, I investigated barriers associated with holding mechanisms, gendered norms, and gendered filters that may limit women's access to superintendent roles. Women's experiences of the origins and effects of gender normative perceptions and hiring practices have potential for contributing to the study of gender equity in the field of education and beyond. Findings could provide implications for increasing women's opportunities to serve beyond central office positions in public school districts. Possibilities exist for identifying practices in organizations that have hired women to serve at the highest level of school district leadership; that of the superintendent of schools.

Vliv webové analytiky na novinářskou práci / The Influence of Web Analytics on Journalism

Jílková, Veronika January 2020 (has links)
This Master's thesis entitled "The Influence of Web Analytics on Journalism" examines the impact of web analytics on journalistic routines in the Czech Republic. The theoretical frame focuses on history of origin and development of czech online news media as well as the change of journalistic work in the environment of online media. An inseparable part of the theoretical section is also an introduction to the topic of editorial analytics. The theory of gatekeeping frames our research and helps us define specific research questions. Qualitative research was conducted using semi-structured in-depth interviews with ten journalists to answer the research questions. Results showed who is in charge of editorial analytics in newsrooms and how often are analytical tools used. Then the purpose of usage of editorial analytics was found and described in the interpretative part. In conclusion the results provided us with detailed information about the specific impact of analytics on journalistic routines including appearance of home pages, headlines and photos, selection of topics, links to other articles etc. The key findigs of this research were enriched by conclusions of similar foreign studies.
