The meaning of heteronormativity within the primary special school : A qualitative study on the meaning of heteronormativity in teaching at the primary special school towards curriculum subjects.

Degerfeldt, Anton January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of heteronormativity within the elementary special school. With the hope to contribute to an increased understanding of teachers work against heteronormative within the primary special school. The investigation is based on a phenomenographic research approach where the results are based on semi-structured qualitative interviews which have then been interpreted and analyzed with the help of the previous research and queer theory and crip theory. The previous research creates a image of a heterosexual elementary special school, where issues related to gender, family constellations, sexual orientation and LGBTQ issues are deprioritized in teaching. The main result shows that the teachers in this study is carrying out a constant norm-critical work regarding issues concerning gender, family constellations, sexual orientation and LGBTQ issues. Where the teachers strive to protect the students identities and the school's work to promote everyone’s special characteristics. However, it cannot be ignored that heteronormativity has a presence within the primary special school, mainly through an unawareness of heteronormativity within the teaching staff, but that there is indirect work against the heteronormativity with great development potential. Above all, the responsibility for the teaching of rights, the socialization task must be distributed more among all the subjects regarding the issues concerning gender, family constellations, sexual orientation, and LGBTQ issues. This is to be able to increase awareness of heteronormativity even more and to promote the norm-critical work within the primary special school.

To protect and serve… …everyone, including their own or the Norm? : - An exploration of gender normativities in testimonies of sexual harassment inside the Swedish police force.

Pilevång Bergqvist, Emma January 2023 (has links)
This thesis aims to analyze and trace gender normativities and stereotypes in the testimoniesfrom the #metoo call #nödvärn (2017) and #nödvärn 2.0 (n.d) in Sweden within the policedepartment. This thesis includes a qualitative thematic analysis of the material combined witha positioning theory. The analysis is based on testimonies from #nödvärn and #nödvärn 2.0regarding harassments inside the Swedish police force. The theoretical framework in thisthesis are based on queer theory with concepts like gender norm, normativities andstereotyping that are illuminating in the material. The thesis also includes an intersectionalapproach to understand the hierarchical perspective between gender and sexuality that areconsisting through the material. This thesis contributes to research due to the missing LGBTQperspective. The analysis shows clearly stated gender stereotypes in both genders, but alsodifferent stereotypes according to status and sexuality in the testimonies. This with a strongconnection to the macho norm that are consisting throughout the previous research andanalysis, with other normativities illustrated such as gender normative and heteronormativity. Finally, there is a hierarchical level illustrated in the analysis related to inclusion andexclusion by categorization.

Sexual Assault Among College Students: An Examination of Demographic, Contextual, and Behavioral Factors

Rogers, Sarah A 11 December 2015 (has links)
Although studies examining sexual assault among college students are vast, the literature is somewhat lacking in discussions of contextualized sexual assault predictors and their relationship with sexual assault prevention. The purpose of this study is to examine whether demographic factors, contextual factors, and behavioral factors effect sexual victimization on college campuses. In this examination, I hope to show that the presence of these factors may be related to sexual victimization; however their existence does not necessitate the use of victim blame. By reviewing sexual assault prevention programming on college and university campuses across the United States, I provide alternate explanations and possible solutions to the sexual victimization of students in higher education. This study used data from the American College Health Association Fall 2011 survey. In addition, a comparison is made to these data from an Executive Summary for Mississippi State University from the Spring 2013 ACHA survey period.

Effect of gender on Mississippi hunter motivations and substitutability of hunting

Oquendo, Vanessa Carina 10 December 2010 (has links)
Selfministered mail questionnaires were sent to a stratified sample of 1,000 male and 1,000 female Mississippi resident licensed hunters to determine effect of gender on hunting motivations and substitutability of hunting. Exploratory factor analysis and analysis of covariance were used to analyze hunting motivations. Logistic regression was used to determine effects of 14 independent variables on probability of resident hunters reporting a substitute activity. Males and females differed on achievement-oriented “social recognition” and “seeking stimulation” motivations and on affiliative-oriented “family togetherness” motivations. Gender had no significant effect on resident hunter probability of reporting substitute activities. Age and importance of hunting as an outdoor activity had significant effects on probability of reporting substitute activities, with each being related positively to the response variable. Fishing was the most frequently reported substitute activity for males and females. However, females reported more substitute activities than males.

The decline of the belle in Southern poetry: from Edward Coote Pinkney to Robert Penn Warren

Henderson, Margaret Jean 07 August 2010 (has links)
The literary criticism of the so-called cult of Southern femininity in the fiction and drama of Southern writers is well established. However, there is little criticism regarding these figures in Southern poetry. In response to this gap in scholarship, this study examines the changing representations of the belle or lady in Southern poetry from the early nineteenth through the mid-twentieth century. She appears in poems written by white and African American men and women from three distinct historical and literary periods in the South: the antebellum period, the post-bellum period, and the twentieth century. This study examines the manner in which these different groups of poets in each period represent her. The overall trend of Southern poetry’s portrayal of women through these periods is that it moves from an idealized and mythical image in the antebellum period to a more realistic image in the twentieth century.
