“Yeah but we are doing ok, but it is not enough” : A study on how actors from civil society in Namibia regard the implementation of gender equality

Düringer, Rebecca January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to do research on how selected individuals from civil society in Namibia, working with human rights or democracy, see gender equality in a Namibian context and how they regard their own role in the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Interviews have been carried out and grounded theory has been used to analyse the data. Theoretical concepts such as gender equality, civil society and globalization have been used to support the analysis along with theories regarding implementation. Three categories are being presented in the analysis, Theory equality, Distribution of responsibilities, and Male-streaming. The conclusion of the thesis is that the work that is carried out to implement gender equality is not enough.

Využívání informačních a komunikačních technologií pro dosažení rovnosti žen a mužů a cílů OSN v oblasti udržitelného rozvoje. / How can bringing the digital gender divide accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?

Smith, Joshua January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to identify how bridging the online gender divide can accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. At present 200 million fewer women are online than their male counterparts, highlighting the gender inequality that exists online. The disparity in the number of women online is having a detrimental effect on the ability to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations target date of 2030. The research first endeavours to understand the current discourse of what is understood by the term "digital gender divide" within contemporary literature. Drawing knowledge from existing literature, the reasons for the digital gender divide are critically assessed and conceptualised within an empirical framework before offering an insight into how such barriers can be addressed and overcome. The removal of such obstacles therefore paves the way for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to flourish. The evidence collated throughout the study details the intricate connection between sustainable development and gender equality, concluding that considerable advancements towards sustainable development can be made if more women are online.

Det är varmt och skitigt men innerst inne trivs vi : En kulturstudie i ett industriföretag

Hellmer, Ida January 2008 (has links)
<p>Aim: Culture exists in every organization, whether you actively work with it or not. Old cultures often carry traditions and are hard to change. The purpose of this thesis is to describe Gävle Galvan from an organizational point of view and also to investigate the culture from a gender point of view.</p><p>Method: The thesis is written with a qualitative and narrative approach. I have taken part in three person’s stories through interviews and thereby created picture of their everyday work on Gävle Galvan. It’s hard to describe a company’s culture and I have, with help from the stories and my own observations, tried to give an as balanced picture as possible. The interviews and my observations, together with organizational theoretical concepts, create my story of the company.</p><p>Conclusions: This study is confirmed by Schein’s theory; it’s difficult to change old behaviours and traditions, what Schein calls assumptions. Gävle Galvan characterizes by its history and how it’s always been. What once was created has been well kept and led to an assumption. The culture has a couple of culture carrier who have been in the organization for many decades. These persons are often respected because they have a long experience of the profession and they will not accept new co-workers that don’t share their norms and values. Inställning till vidareutbildning hos anställda i relation till etnicitet och kön : Bör Fatima utbilda sig?

Altun, Ömer January 2021 (has links)

Feminismus a genderová rovnost v českých školách a ve společnosti / Feminism and Gender Equality in Czech Schools and Society

Donovalová, Anna January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issue of feminism and gender equality in society and, more specifically in education. Gender equality (as well as other types of equality) is an important part of a democratic society. Sex sells - but should it? : The notion of using sex(ism) in tourism advertising

Edeving, Matilda, Engdahl, Michaela January 2023 (has links)
This thesis provides a discussion of the use of sex(ism) in advertisement and its implications for gender roles and values, with a focus on women’s status in society. We argue that women are being objectified and still considered second class citizens, even in such a gender equality forward country as Sweden. The harm of using sex(ism) in the advertising industry is shown by how it strongly implements and perpetuates antiquated gender stereotypes upon society. This limits women’s options in many regards, such as when it comes to career opportunities, and self-development as your own entity. It is through a critical understanding of the role advertising has on society, and vice versa, that comprehension of the issue and how to move forward towards a more gender equal society can be accomplished.

Gender in law under and after state socialism : the example of the Czech Republic

Havelkova, Barbara January 2013 (has links)
The thesis examines the expressions and origins of negative attitudes to gender equality in the Czech Republic, which have been noticeable especially in the process of implementation of the EU sex equality acquis. It asks whether and how they can be explained with reference to socio-legal developments that started during Czechoslovakia’s State Socialist past, but are still relevant today. In order to answer these research questions, the thesis examines how gender equality has been regulated through law and how it has been understood by law-makers, judges and legal scholars in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic during State Socialism (1948-1989) and Transition (1989-today). The thesis examines legal developments in gender-relevant areas, most importantly in antidiscrimination law. It also excavates the underlying, sometimes hidden, but crucial understandings of key concepts such as ‘women’, ‘gender’, ‘equality’, ‘discrimination’ and ‘rights’. The thesis argues that while formal legal guarantees for women have largely been satisfactory in the Czech Republic by international standards, the way these formal legal guarantees are understood, interpreted and applied has not been gender-progressive. It argues that the reasons for this are: (i) entrenched patriarchal ideas about women’s appropriate role both in private and public life; (ii) a failure to understand gender as a social construct and to recognize gender order as a pervasive social structure; (iii) an inadequate conceptualization of equality and a refusal to combat sex discrimination; and (iv) a limited understanding of the role of law and of rights in the shaping of social relations. It argues that these understandings have been considerably path-dependent on State Socialism, be it through a rejection of anything perceived as State Socialist (which has harmed redistributive policies), as well as through the mostly unconscious retention of ideas or their absence (which has led to a blindness to the cultural aspects of patriarchy).

Analýza genderové ne/rovnosti v rámci EU / Analysis of gender in/equality in the European Union

Grygárková, Eva January 2011 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the issue of gender in/equality in the European Union from the quantitative as well as from the qualitative perspective. For the calculations of the defined tasks methods of multi-criteria decision with software for SANNA, working in conjunction with MS Excel, were used. This study analyzes and provides an overview of the arrangement of individual EU countries in terms of gender in/equality using selected indicators. The main variable in this study is sex. In terms of socio-cultural context equality or inequality between men and women is then analyzed -- gender in/equality. The first part introduces the terminology of gender in/equality. The next chapter describes selected qualitative factors in the analysis. Following is an overview of the quantitative tools, multi-criteria evaluation of alternatives. The last part is devoted to description of real variants and to calculations according to the individual areas (labour market, poverty and education).
