Koclířov u Svitav: Poutní místo (mezi)národního významu / Koclířov by Svitavy: Pilgrimage place of (inter)national importance

Jančík, Jiří January 2021 (has links)
This thesis presents the Marian place of pilgrimage 'Koclířov by Svitavy', the residence of the Czech-Moravian Fatima, the apostolate centre of the Czech Republic which plays a unique position within the Catholic Church. The aim of the work, coming under the geography of religion, is an in-depth study of the relatively recently established pilgrimage center, which dates back to 1995. Analyzing how this particular pilgrimage location has transformed, I have tried to decipher a total of 4 assumptions that are seemingly contradictory and illogical: the start of the location's sanctification in this extremely secular destination; the phenomenon of the Polish Pope St. John Paul II. in this area, over 250 km away from his native Wadowice and the post- secular activities of religious pilgrims. How could this formerly sleepy and remote village become a pilgrimage center of regional, national or even international importance? And how does mutual cooperation with the municipality and the local school work? To reach a relevant theoretical framing of pilgrimage throughout Europe, as well as the global context, I drew mainly from Polish literature, where pilgrimage has deeper roots and plays a traditional role. In addition, perhaps the only department of religious geography of the world is based at the...

Územní identity a náboženství v Česku a střední Evropě / Territorial identities and religion in Czechia and Central Europe

Reeves, Daniel Vinson January 2018 (has links)
Territorial identities are a mosaic of many different cultural elements, from which religion is just one subset. This dissertation explores elements of religion as they are expressed within territorial identities at varying scale levels in Czechia and several neighboring countries. The use of a religiously themed postage stamp or a Christian toponym, the inclusion of a religious site in a hand drawn map of one's hometown or one's position regarding the return of disputed properties to the churches they were taken from years ago, each of these can be an expression of territorial identity. Whether actively practiced or passively acknowledged, religion is bound up in our sense of place. The four separate studies that make up the body of this dissertation present religion's case as an integral ingredient within the territorial identities of Central Europe. In terms of spatial differences, Slovakia and Poland are more likely, as compared to Czechia, to recognize and include elements of religion in their territorial identities. This is true at both national - postage stamps - and local levels - toponyms and cognitive maps. Each of the methods used to explore the presence of religion in expressions of territorial identity - postage stamps, toponyms and cognitive maps - proved effective. The comparative...

Vliv náboženství na postavení žen ve vybraných státech / The influence of religion on the status of women in selected countries

Klingorová, Kamila January 2013 (has links)
The influence of religion on the status of women in selected countries The diploma thesis comes from theoretical concepts of feminist geography, geography of religion and from the research of gender inequalities. It tries to analyze the influence of selected religions on the status of women in the society and to compare Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and those without religion in this field. It comes from a thought, that gender equality is an important element for social and economical development of the state and for democracy. The key research topic for this thesis is how extensive influence the religion has on the status of woman in the society. Based on quantitative analysis of data from 41 chosen states of the world, the thesis endeavours to judge the impact of religion on the status of women in terms of social, political and economical level. One of the premises of the thesis is a presumption, that the status of women is the best in society where the majority of population is without religion, then in Christian society, Buddhist and Hinduism society and the worst in Muslim society. Based on results of statistical analysis it may be stated, that involvement of women in the public sphere has a positive impact on the socio-economical development of the state. Religion amplifies gender...

Borges, Maristela Corrêa 30 March 2015 (has links)
Thinking about how different human sciences recognize the importance of religion in their studies and research, and in the way that the geography, from its beginnings, has approached this subject, rarely understanding it as important and revealing to the human action in space, I traced the first objective of this thesis. I try to understand the theoretical pathways through which geography went to pour in geography of religion. For this, I analyze separately the development of scientific studies on religion, and I try to rescue on the history of geographical thought, the closest time to a beginning of geography of religion. From brief analyzes and dialogues with theses and dissertations about geography of religion in Brazil, I try to understand how this field has developed, what s its weaknesses and its potential. Reflecting on my work as a researcher in traditional communities in the riverside area of the river São Francisco, in the north of Minas Gerais, I realized how much the popular religiosity acts significantly among its residents. Thus, I tried to recover and analyze the role of popular catholicism, from one of its present manifestations in these communities - the Folias. Through different analyzes I would like to present the Folias while a religious identity with a role that has two dimensions: the religious, that contributes significantly in the redefinition of a traditionalism of these communities; and the geographical, that the various relationships established with different spaces, are characterized as one of the popular religious manifestations with the greatest potential for studies and research on the geography of religion.

This masters thesis presents itself as a work in the History of Geographical Thought which the focus is the relationship between geography and religion expressed in the subfield of cultural geography: geography of religion. Its main objective is to understand the dynamics of development of this subfield, expressed in the studies that have been performed in this area and better understood if we elaborated the following questions: (a) what is the context that the subfield was developed and is developing? (b) how is characterized the subfield in national terms? (c) what are the categories of analysis / concepts peculiar to this subfield? (d) What are the methodologies genuinely belonging to the subfield? In order to make it happen, we use the field concept and method reflective by Pierre Bourdieu (1989), combined to the three dimensions of culture by Raymond Williams (1992); also, the interdisciplinary between social sciences like Sociology and Anthropology, and also the relation between the cultural geography and the geography of religion. The time line is the same of cultural geography in Brazil, starting in 1989 and conditional upon the end of my master course period, in 2009. The importance of this proposal is an attempt to build a general overview of studies in geography of religion in Brazil.

Camino de Santiago: poutnictví jako faktor regionálního vývoje / Camino de Santiago: pilgrimage as the phenomenom of regional development

Vaverková, Inka January 2010 (has links)
The Way to Saint James is presented from two points of view. First, its character and its position in the pilgrimage - tourism continuum are subjects of the research. The position's analysis is based on dataset created by the Office for pilgrims in Santiago de Compostela about the pilgrims' motivation. The pilgrimage's position in the pilgrimage - tourism continuum has been getting closer to the limit between the spiritual and the profane during last years but it has not been reached yet. Then, the influence of the pilgrimage in a regional development is analyzed. The existence of the diffusion effect is examined in a study of model localities. The towns of Palas de Rei and Taboada, both in the Lugo region, have been chosen to examine the existence of this influence. The towns of Puente la Reina/Gares in the Navarra region, Nájera in the La Rioja region, Sahagún in the León region and Palas de Rein in the Lugo region have been chosen to examine the diffusion effect. The existence of the regional development is confirmed by increasing number of hotels and restaurants but not in the socioeconomic development. The diffusion effect is not confirmed. KEY WORDS: geography of religion, religious tourism, Spain, Way to Saint James (Camino de Santiago), pilgrimage - tourism continuum, diffusion efect
