Characterization of the Germania Spraberry unit from analog studies and cased-hole neutron log data

Olumide, Babajide Adelekan 01 November 2005 (has links)
The need for characterization of the Germania unit has emerged as a first step in the review, understanding and enhancement of the production practices applicable within the unit and the trend area in general. Petrophysical characterization of the Germania Spraberry units requires a unique approach for a number of reasons ?? limited core data, lack of modern log data and absence of directed studies within the unit. In the absence of the afore mentioned resources, an approach that will rely heavily on previous petrophysical work carried out in the neighboring ET O??Daniel unit (6.2 miles away), and normalization of the old log data prior to conventional interpretation techniques will be used. A log-based rock model has been able to guide successfully the prediction of pay and non-pay intervals within the ET O??Daniel unit, and will be useful if found applicable within the Germania unit. A novel multiple regression technique utilizing non-parametric transformations to achieve better correlations in predicting a dependent variable (permeability) from multiple independent variables (rock type, shale volume and porosity) will also be investigated in this study. A log data base includes digitized formats of gamma ray, cased hole neutron, limited resistivity and neutron/density/sonic porosity logs over a considerable wide area.

This dissertation presents a version in Portuguese of the Latin text of Germania, which was brought out in 98 a. D. by the historian Tacitus and integrates the opera minora of that author. This translation is accompanied by the Latin text and notes that justify such version option in face of other readings of the same word/passage. Next, commentaries about the generical composition of Germania are made, verifying the caracteristics that allow insert it in the ethnographic and periegetic tradition and the contact with other literary genders, but also about the debated question of the interpretation of this unique work in the Roman literature.

Waldgirmes v kontextu augustovské doby / Waldgirmes in the context of the Augustan period

Kůt, Karel January 2011 (has links)
1 Title: Waldgirmes in the context of the Augustan period Author: Karel Kůt Department: Institute for Classical Archaeology, Charles University Supervisior: Doc. PhDr. Jiří Musil, PhD. Abstract: The thesis focuses on the locality of the Roman period in Waldgirmes (contemporary Germany) in the context of Roman expansion in the time of Augustan rule. It concentrates on archaeological situation, structure and disposition of objects and used building technologies. It brings the interpretation of local space and references to ancient sources. It approaches a broader perspective from the viewpoint of Augustan horizon with its related invasion to Germany, where the axis of army penetration was formed by the rivers Lippe, Mohan and Lahn. As the Romans used to establish their supporting strategic points along these rivers, the thesis focuses also on other fortifications and constructions created in this period and in the given area. It also takes into consideration the forms of coexistence of the Romans with the original inhabitants. Keywords: Waldgirmes, Augustus, Romans, Germania

Interpretatio Romana : En analys av De Bello Gallico och Germania / Interpretatio Romana : A analysis of De Bello Gallico and Germania

Palmgren, Filip January 2023 (has links)
The paper explores the use of interpretatio romana in the Roman works De Bello Gallico and Germania. Through various examples, the study also discusses whether the concept can also be applied to other aspects of Roman society besides religion. The role of the concept in Roman historiography and its contribution to the cultural appropriation of space is finally commented on.

MITICO PLASTICO MAGICO. Italia e Germania 1918-1925. Episodi e figure di un dialogo artistico / Mythical Plastical Magical. Italy and Germany 1918-1925 EPISODES AND FIGURES OF AN ARTISTIC DIALOGUE

POLA, FRANCESCA 14 March 2008 (has links)
This research has been considering as a specific element of interest the historical-critical reconstruction of the artistic relationships between Italy and Germany in the period 1918-1925. During these years, it has recognized the most relevant episodes and the originating moments for meaningful developments in the following decades, for artists, galleries, intellectuals involved in these relationships. The historical reconstruction of exhibitions, publications, documents, which determined the environment for the courses of the two cultural surroundings to develop and intertwine, has been enriched by the identification and study of some aspects and themes recognized as recurring and founding for the artistic dialogue between Italy and Germany in the analyzed period. The first chapter focuses on the historical-critical frame of reference and on the figures of mediators who allowed these exchanges, while the second concentrates on the relationships between Valori Plastici and Germany. The third chapter reconstructs the Italian stays of some German artist who reside in Italy during this period (Georg Schrimpf, Carlo Mense, Alexander Kanoldt, Christian Schad). The last chapter proposes some hypotheses for comparative analysis, that testify the common ground of research.

The protein and peptide mediated syntheses of non-biologically-produced oxide materials

Dickerson, Matthew B. 09 July 2007 (has links)
The research detailed in this dissertation is focused on the use of biomolecules (i.e., peptides and proteins) to form non-biologically produced materials under mild reaction conditions (i.e, neutral pH, aqueous solutions, and room temperature). The peptides utilized in the studies detailed in this dissertation were identified through the screening of single crystal rutile TiO2 substrates or Ge powder with a phage-displayed peptide library. Twenty-one peptides were identified which possessed an affinity for Ge. Those peptides possessing a basic isoelectric point as well as hydroxyl- and imidazole-containing amino acid residues were found to be the most effective in precipitating amorphous germania from an alkoxide precursor. The phage-displayed peptide library screening of TiO2 substrates yielded twenty peptides. The titania formation activity of these peptides was found to correlate with the number of positive charges they carried. The titania materials generated by the library-identified and designed peptides were found to be composed of amorphous titania as well as <10 nm anatase and/or monoclinic TiO2 crystallites. Four recombinant proteins, derived from the amino acid sequences of proteins (silaffins) associated with biosilicification in diatoms, were also investigated for titania precipitation activity. The two most basic of these recombinant silaffins, rSil1L and rSilC, were able to induce the formation of titania. The titania precipitates generated by rSil1L were found to be similar to those produced by the phage-displayed library identified peptides. The second recombinant silaffin, rSilC, was found to produce hollow spheres of titania, which, following dehydration, were observed to transform into larger, solid spheres composed of radially aligned columns of rutile TiO2. The highly repetitive nature of the rSilC s amino acid sequence is believed to be responsible for the differences in TiO2 polymorph generated by the different recombinant silaffins and peptides. This dissertation also details research conducted on the formation of titania utilizing rSilC conjugated to synthetic and biogenic silica surfaces. These silica surfaces were functionalized with a newly developed drendritic growth technique. The dendritic functional-group amplification process was demonstrated to increase the loading of hexahisitidine tagged proteins on silica surfaces by more than 40%, as compared to traditional immobilization procedures.
