They don't wear black tie) was finished in 1956. Its first performance occurred two years later in Arena Theatre in São Paulo, causing immediate impact in the public and catching intellectual and academic circles attention. The protagonism of a poor labor family in Rio de Janeiro was a welcome innovation to the Brazilian theatrical scenario, as well as the innovative techniques of performing in arena. In the fifties, the political environment was agitated over the difficult succession of Getulio Vargas and the collective euphoria coming from the national-development plan of Juscelino Kubitschek. The Communist Party of Brazil (PCB) was trying the reorganize itself in the face of internal challenges and crisis coming from outside: the speech delivered by Nikita Kruschev denouncing Stalin's crimes in the Soviet Union. This decade was also important for the introduction of brechtian epic theatre and for an intense debate over the political role of national dramaturgy. To which extent the political militancy and the dramaturgic sensibility of Gianfrancesco Guarnieri were affected by those influences? Can the play Eles não usam black tie be thought as a privileged historical source to dialogue with the political and esthetic conjuncture in which it was conceived? It can be observed a dialectical relation between Guarnieri's political militancy and the guidelines given by PCB at the time, the principles of bourgeois drama and the brechtian epic theatre in a text full of dilemmas and contradictions of Populism.

A metodologia escolhida
quest?es referentes ?s teias do poder.
e Gilles Deleuze. / This research is focused in the analysis of the micro-relations of power consisted between
characters in the play Eles N?o Usam Black-Tie, written by Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, in
1955. In this context, we will present a scenic experiment which represents the micropower
inside the scene. The methodology used in this study was based on the reading of
the Guarnieri?s play and making observations about the inter-relationship between the
characters. This observation is made from the perspective of power. To support our
analyses, we used the set of placements showed by the French writer Michel Foucault,
especially in his work Microfisica do Poder which presents the influences of the power.
We used the reflexions obtained by S?bato Magaldi, D?cio de Almeida Prado, Edelcio
Mosta?o and Anatol Rosenfeld to understand the dramatic aspects and the macro-political
structure of the time where the play was written. Thus, this research aims to make an
easier understanding of the perception of micro-relations present in Eles N?o Usam
Black-Tie and show a possible visualization of these elements inside the scene. In this
respect, we used the reflexions obtained in works from authors as: Patrice Pavis, Josette
F?ral, Naira Ciotti, Roberto Machado e Gilles Deleuze.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The decade of 1970 experienced a period of transition in which the plan of
opening politics , proposed by Geisel s Government (1974-1979), shown the signs of a
succession of measures that indicated one acting dynamics very full of ambiguous
questions and retrocessions.
At the cultural field, the censorship presented on a systematic way since the
AI-5 (Institutional Act nº 5), in 1968 maintained itself active in the sense to bar that
spectacles and theatrical texts should approach the brazilian social reality on their
arguments. In the midst of the arbitrary and repressive pratices, the theatrical class
constituted a resistance front, on which the utilization of metaphores, analogies,
parables and allegories represented strategies of intervention in the social reality,
paradoxically contributing for one of the most fecunds moments of the brazilian
theatre s production.
On this conjuncture, we detached in this research the political and cultural
militance of Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, a responsible person for a profitable dramatistic
production along of the 1960/1970 decades. And specially, we analysed the dramatic
text Ponto de Partida (1976), one politcal parable whose thematic allowed a reflection
about the will, the authoritarian Government and the manipulating strategies of power.
His writing, motived by one incident with great impact in the nation, the murder of the
journalist Vladimir Herzog by the repression s organizations of the 2nd Army (Armed
Forces), also made possible a dialogue with a historical context when was processing
one series of social demonstrations in this country to demand the human rights defence
and for the return of the State of Right.
Thus, to evaluate the thematic possibilities of the theatrical text, to recover the
historical incidents that were the motivation for the writing of the dramatic play as well
as the repercussion of its staging with the aim to verify the identification between the
audience and this spectable, at last, all these questions became privileged points of
reflection on this work.
pesquisa. / Mestre em História
