Coordinated Beamforming and Common Message Decoding for Intercell Interference Mitigation in Multicell NetworksDahrouj, Hayssam 15 February 2011 (has links)
Conventional multicell wireless systems operate with out-of-cell interference treated as background noise; consequently, their performance faces two major limitations: 1)Signal processing is performed on a per-cell basis; and 2)Intercell interference detection is infeasible as intercell interference, although significantly above the noise level, is typically quite weak. In this thesis, we consider a multicell downlink scenario, where base-stations are equipped with multiple transmit antennas, the remote users are equipped with a single antenna, and multiple remote users are active simultaneously via spatial division multiplexing. We propose solutions for the above limitations by considering techniques for mitigating interference.
The first part of the thesis proposes solutions for the first limitation. It considers the benefit of coordinating base-stations across multiple cells, where
multiple base-stations may jointly optimize their respective beamformers to improve the overall system performance. It focuses on the design criteria of minimizing either the total weighted transmitted power or the maximum per-antenna power across the base-stations subject to signal-to-interference-and-noise-ratio (SINR) constraints at the remote users. The main contribution of this part is an efficient algorithm for finding the joint globally optimal beamformers across all base-stations. The proposed algorithm is based on a generalization of uplink-downlink duality to the multicell setting using the Lagrangian duality theory. An important feature is that it naturally leads to a distributed implementation in time-division duplex (TDD) systems. Simulation results suggest that coordinating the beamforming vectors alone already provides appreciable performance improvements as compared to the conventional per-cell optimized network.
The second part of the thesis considers the transmission of both private and common messages for the sole purpose of intercell
interference mitigation. It solves the issues of the second limitation mentioned above. It considers the benefit of designing
decodable interference signals by allowing common-private message splitting at the transmitter and common message decoding by users in adjacent cells. It solves a network optimization problem of jointly determining the appropriate users in adjacent cells for
rate splitting, the optimal beamforming vectors for both common and private messages, and the optimal common-private rates to minimize the total transmit power across the base-stations subject to service rate requirements for remote users. Observe that for fixed user selection and fixed common-private rate splitting, the optimization of beamforming vectors can be performed using a semidefinite programming approach. Further, this part of the thesis proposes a heuristic user-selection and rate splitting strategy to maximize the benefit of common message decoding. This part proposes a heuristic algorithm to characterize the improvement in the feasible rates with common-message decoding. Simulation results show that common message decoding can significantly improve both the total transmit power and the feasibility region for cell-edge users when base-stations are closely spaced from each other.

Evaluation Of A Cenozoic Lacustrine Basin-hancili Formation (kalecik-ankara) And Its Paleoenvironment And Paleoclimate Analysis Based On Mineral FaciesAker, Serdar 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The major purpose of this study is to evaluate the paleoenvironmental and
paleoclimatological conditions during the Middle Miocene-Early Pliocene in Kalecik-Ankara
by using mineralogical and geochemical proxies from Hanç / ili Formation.
To achieve a high-resolution paleoclimate data, 2 stratigraphic sectioning and 1 continous
core drilling were examined. Field studies were followed by analytical techniques on the
selected representative samples. The mineralogical compositions of the bulk samples and
the minerals of the clay fractions were determined by X-ray diffractometer. Scanning
electron microscopic analyses were also carried on the specific samples which have the
potential to define the important microstructural units. The major and trace elemental
compositions were determined by X-ray fluoresence spectrometer. Additionally, the stable
isotope compositions of the samples selected from the continous core drilling on Hanç / ili
formation were among the major proxies to gather a paleoenvironmental and
paleoclimatrological approach.
All the proxies employed for this study clearly indicate that mineralogical and geochemical
signatures are consistent with each other and can be used for paleoclimatic interpretations.
The stable isotope values point that C4 plants were dominant during the deposition of
Hanç / ili Formation, while evaporation caused the development of alkaline environment which
is seasonally dry with depositional temperature approximately between 25-30° / C. During
deposition, lava flowand tuff were deposited due to the volcanic activity in the vicinity of the
lake. Based on this volcanism, economical bentonite deposits were originated. The lake at
which the Hanç / ili formation was deposited, completed its development in a time to time
silicate rich and salty-alkaline anvironment.

Dynasties of demons : cannibalism from Lu Xun to Yu HuaKeefer, James Robinson 05 1900 (has links)
Dynasties of Demons: Cannibalism from Lu Xun to Yu Hua focuses on the issue of
representations of the body in modern Chinese fiction. My interest concerns the relationship, or
correspondence between "textual" bodies and the physical "realities" they are meant to represent,
particularly where those representations involve the body as a discursive site for the intersection
of state ideology and the individual. The relationship between the body and the state has been a
question of profound significance for modern Chinese literati dating back to the late Qing, but it
was Lu Xun who, with the publication of his short story "Kuangren riji" (Diary of a
Madman), in 1918, initiated the literaty discourse on China's "apparent penchant for
cannibalizing its own people.
In the first chapter of my dissertation I discuss L u Xun's fiction by exploring two distinct,
though not mutually exclusive issues: (1) his diagnosis of China's debilitating "spiritual illness,"
which he characterized as being cannibalistic; (2) his highly inventive, counter-intuitive narrative
strategy for critiquing traditional Chinese culture without contributing to or stimulating his
reader's prurient interests in violent spectacle. To my knowledge I am the first critic of modern
Chinese literature to write about Lu Xun's erasure of the spectacle body.
In Chapters II, III and IV, I discuss the writers Han Shaogong, Mo Yan, and Yu Hua,
respectively, to illustrate that sixty years after Lu Xun's madman first "wrote" the prophetic
words, chi ren A (eat people), a number of post-Mao writers took up their pens to announce
that the human feast did not end with Confucianism; on the contrary, with the advent of Maoism
the feasting began in earnest.
Each of these post-Mao writers approaches the issue of China's "spiritual dysfunction"
from quite different perspectives, which I have characterized in the following way: Han
Shaogong (Atavism); Mo Yan (Ambivalent-Nostalgia); and Yu Hua (Deconstruction). As
becomes evident through my analysis of selected texts, despite their very significant differences
(personal, geographic, stylistic) all three writers come to oddly similar conclusions that are, in
and of themselves, not dissimilar to the conclusion arrived at by Lu Xun's madman.

Wang Meng a jeho literární dílo inspirované Xinjiangem / Wang Meng and his Writings Inspired by XinjiangČavojská, Lenka January 2015 (has links)
Wang Meng, an important figure of modern Chinese literature, is best known as an author experimenting with literary techniques at the turn of the 70s and the 80s. Our paper examines a relatively little-known part of his work inspired by the writer's many-year stay in Xinjiang. Examined proses originate primarily from two collections - In Yili and Hello, Xinjiang. In the analysis of Wang Meng's literary creation we take into account the historical context and we present particular features of the literary image of non-Han culture in the work of a Han writer. We also examine the use of narrative techniques, with particular focus on "stream of consciousness" technique.

Intuition of an Outsider: From Nothing to Voice in George Scarbrough’s PoetryMoore, William 01 May 2021 (has links)
Long acknowledged as a committed poet of place, this thesis examines tones of outsiderness and alienation that characterize George Scarbrough’s poetry. Scarbrough draws on familiarity with his childhood in southeast Tennessee, and from an outsider’s outlook, a perspective veritably prompted by the rejection he suffered as a homosexual and lover of language, Scarbrough’s poetry addresses the daunting themes of fear and nothingness. Analysis of his poetry also reveals qualities of hope and endurance, a commitment to received forms, and Modern innovation. Through his poetic voice, culminating in the alter ego of Han-shan, Scarbrough provides vital insights into the human experience.

The importance of the identity concept is now recognized by the scholarship in History. The feeling of belonging, being at the same time a personal and a collective process, is at the cornerstone of a group identity. In this dissertation, we intend to study the growth of Manchu identity’s awareness, and what part it plaid in the Chinese identity construction process, up to the 1911 Revolution.
An Historiographic analysis will allow us to follow the evolution of western scholarship outlook on the Qing dynasty, and to substitute the thesis of their sinicization by the idea of their acculturation. Our first hypothesis is that a parallel comparison between both identity constructions will lead to the conclusion that they are inseparable from one another.
Secondly, we will suggest that as long as the dynasty could pretend to a universal representation, China benefited from Manchu rule.
Finally, our last assumption will demonstrate that the ethnic component was, and still is, a key factor in the rulership of a multicultural and multiethnic empire.
