Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey : Att spela Open Handed på trumset

Marklund, Jonas January 2018 (has links)

Aspects of the ecology, growth and dispersal behaviour of Heterozius rotundifrons A. Milne Edwards, 1867 (Brachyura: belliidae)

Snell, Philip T. R. January 1991 (has links)
H.rotundifrons A. Milne Edwards, 1867, the big-handed crab, belongs to the Belliidae and is the only crab representative of this family in New Zealand. It lives in the intertidal zone. The megalopae undergo 13-16 moults to become fully mature at a size of 11-13mm CWo These mature crabs live up to a maximum of 19 years and attain a size of 23-25mm CW (24-26 instars). The laboratory growth curve of H.rotundifrons is asymptotic and there is no terminal ecdysis. Growth is similar between the sexes up to maturity but decreases more in males after puberty thus exhibiting an "anomalous" pattern. Average weight gain after ecdysis was found to be same for both sexes and independent of size (approx. 18%). Environmental and physical factors which normally affect growth have no profound effect on H.rotundifrons. However, moult frequency was found to be increased by removal of eyestalks or when crabs were maintained in constant darkness. Starvation and limb removal considerably reduced the moult increment. Alpha ecdysone concentration increased to a peak 40 days before ecdys is and returned to base 1eve1s at moulting. Moulting is seasonal having a high peak in mid-summer and a smaller peak in April-May. A field study of dispersal showed that short-range movements (5.06m), within the intertidal zone, are common for H.rotundifrons (n=212). Many crabs left their refuge between low tides and their movements were independent of one another. Neither home range nor long dispersal movement (>21m) have been observed in H.rotundifrons. Diet of H.rotundifrons comprised algae (60.7%), crustaceans (19.6%), sand & unidentified materials (11.7%), sponges & worms (5.7%), and molluscs (2.3%). Although brown algae were always the single dominant food item, diet composition varied seasonally. The majority of the population at Kaikoura (602(M):858(F)) consisted of pre-pubertal males and females and fewer post-pubertal males were found than post-pubertal females, a reflection of slower male growth and suggesting higher male mortality.

Writing Chinese Characters: Right or Left? : The Chinese Discriminatory Policy of Left-Handedness Correction in Terms of Handwriting

Xie, Jiawei January 2016 (has links)
Chinese left-handed are found to be very few, especially in terms of handwriting. The Chinese educational policy that fully entitles teachers in primary school to change the left-handed students to write with their right-hand, by nudging and even force, is found to be mainly blamed as the main cause. The thesis is to raise the ethical discussion and define this policy as being discriminatory against the left-handed by checking the features, definition and identification of discrimination, and reasons forming and supporting such a discriminatory policy will be taken into the major consideration as the source of discrimination. Therefore, the thesis is to propose solutions to help with the abolishment of the policy and the elimination of the prejudicial attitudes toward the left-handed, especially in terms of writing. The thesis itself, due to the limit of previous research and scientific support, has its own blindness or disadvantage, however, such a work could be helpful with the later discussion.

The Analysis of Electrically Large Left-Handed Metamaterial Based on Mushroom Structure Using FDTD Approach

Wu, Wei-Yang 19 June 2006 (has links)
A full wave finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD) combined with thin-wire and thin-slot algorithms to analyze a metamaterial fabricated with periodic mushroom structures, is proposed in this dissertation. This proposed method is suitable for analyzing problems involving large structures with fine structural details. A periodic analysis for mushroom structures is presented. Only a single unit mushroom cell is required to present the phenomena of infinite periodicity with the help of periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). The composite right-/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) approach is introduced and used to approximate CRLH metamaterial through lumped L and C. Finally, several CRLH metamaterial mushroom-based structures are investigated. A 19 by 8 flat microwave lens and a parabolic microwave lens structure composed of 410 unit mushroom cells are investigated. These structures demonstrate negative refractive index (NRI) characteristics while operate in the left-hand (LH) region. The simulation and measurement results of one- and two-dimensional CRLH mushroom-based structures are compared.

Design of a Miniature Left-Handed Material for Gain Improvement of Antenna with Low Sensitivity to Return Loss

Lin, Kun-Hsien 24 July 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, we introduce a LHM (Left-Handed Material) with both negative permittivity and permeability. Improvement of gain antenna is achieved by utilizing the characteristics of the LHM which can focus the EM wave. We start with an analysis of electromagnetic characteristic of LHM, especially its negative index of refraction. Structures with only negative permittivity or negative permeability are also analyzed. Then, we design the structure of LHM that can reduce the sensitivity of S11 of an antenna. So that the antenna operating frequency is not changed even in the presence of the LHM. The LHM unit cell structure comes from the idea by combination of two basic SNG (Single Negative) structure. We design a unit cell whose index of refraction is negative and close to zero. Further, we combine LHM and antenna. Simulation and measurement results show that the LHM is effective. The reflection coefficient of antenna does not change much by the combination of proposed LHM. The half power beam¡Ðwidth of antenna become narrower. The antenna gain improvement can be about 3 dB or higher. Finally, the LHM has been miniaturized successfully, resulting in reduction in size by about 50%. Comparing simulation and measurement, we find the LHM is still effective. A dipole antenna is used to verify out design. The antenna gain has been enhanced and the reflection coefficient does not change much.

Spinduliuotės sklidimas sandūrose su kairinėmis medžiagomis / Propagation of radiation at interfaces with left-handed media

Marcinkevičius, Jonas 30 June 2009 (has links)
Dielectric materials are characterized by two parameters, magnetic permeability and electric permittivity determining its responseto the electromagnetic radiation. A left-handed material is a material whose permeability and permittivity are simultaneously negative, μ < 0 and ε < 0. Such a material can be a structure composed of metal split ring resonators and rods that causes microwaves to behave in an unusual manner. A left-handed material reverses a basic feature of light. Specifically the phase of the electromagnetic wave propagates in the opposite direction to the energy flow leading to the negative refraction. A possible application of the left-handed materials was suggested in 2000 by Pendry, who considered the optical properties of a rectangular lens made of a slab of negatively refracting material. Some of the radiation waves emitted or reflected by ordinary objects decay very quickly. As a result, the subwave length structural information about the object carried by these ‘evanescent’ waves is lost. Left-handed materials would amplify evanescent wave thus retaining the information they contain and achieving unprecedented resolution that overcomes diffraction limit of conventional imaging. The aim of this work is to analyse the formation of the surface plasmons at an interface between an ordinary material and a metamaterial characterized by negative electric polarisability and negative magnetic permeability. For this purpose we have first analyzed the boundary... [to full text]

Implementation of a Microstrip Square Planar N-Way Metamaterial Power Divider

Zong, Junyao January 2008 (has links)
The work done in this thesis focuses on the design of a square-shaped 20-way metamaterial power divider which is fabricated in microstrip technology and operates at 1 GHz. The divider comprises 12 square-shaped left-handed unit cells and 13 square-shaped right-handed unit cells, and these unit cells have the same size and are placed in a checker-board tessellation, where the left-handed unit cells are connected only to right-handed unit cells and vice versa. The divider is based upon the infinite wavelength phenomenon in two-dimensions, and this means that the insertion phase between any two ports of the left-handed unit cell is equal, but with opposite sign, to that of the right-handed unit cell. The divider gives an equal-amplitude equal-phase power division from the central input port to the output ports which are located on a straight line on each side. Thus, it is convenient to integrate with, or interconnect to, other planar circuits in a system, such as power amplifier modules. The design concept can be extended to an N-way power divider, where N = 4n and n is an odd integer.
