The Fictional World of Rolando Hinojosa

Lee, Joyce Glover 08 1900 (has links)
Rolando Hinojosa's Klail Citv Death Trip Series purports to give a picture of life in the Texas Rio Grande Valley from roughly the 1930s to the present. Much of Hinojosa's attention is directed toward the tensions that characterize relations between the mexicano and Anglo cultures. Hinojosa's novel sequence in large part documents the ever-increasing acculturation and assimilation of the mexicano into Anglo society.

Sánchez Mombiedro, Rafael 12 December 2016 (has links)
Abstract The content of this thesis focuses on the musical work by José Hinojosa (fl. 1662-Valencia, 1673), preserved in the musical archive of the Real Colegio del Corpus Christi (Patriarca). After making a critical biography of the composer, updating the inventory of his 47 preserved works and studying the standards of practice of the musical chapel during the 11 years that José Hinojosa served as chapel master (1662-1673), I have selected, transcribed and studied a set of eight of his works. Through these works, it is possible to see, among other things, the treatment of polychorality, the employed technique of composition, theatrical and acoustic-space resources used and which were the vocal and sound features of the musical chapel he ruled. I have also done research on the use of rhetorical figures by Hinojosa, compared with the application of them in liturgical works of different composers belonging to the seventeenth century, in order to frame his work in the European context of the time. I have concluded the investigation with other aspects of interest, such as: a synthetic analysis of political, economic and cultural events in Valencia along the seventeenth century, the launching of the Real Colegio del Corpus Christi by Juan de Ribera, the double regulations concerning the College and the musical chapel, the liturgical ceremonial and, finally, the receiving of polyphonic choirbooks during the arrival of José Hinojosa as a chapel master in 1662. / Sánchez Mombiedro, R. To see with serpent and eagle eyes = tradução e literatura chicana / To see with serpent and eagle eyes : translation and Chicano literature

Bueno, Thaís Ribeiro, 1982- 03 January 2012 (has links)

Such discourse unveils the belief in the possibility of linguistic homogeneity. Nevertheless, such belief becomes unsustainable in communities which politics and society are expressly marked by ethnic and linguistic heterogeneity issues, and mainly by the enormous range of linguistic diversity due to such heterogeneity, among speakers and in the literature. Chicano literature is an example, and two of the major Chicano works constitute the corpus of this research: Gloria Anzaldúa's Borderlands/La Frontera - The New Mestiza and Rolando Hinojosa's Dear Rafe/Mi Querido Rafa. Besides their own singularities, these two books are marked by linguistic heterogeneity (the writing is based on English, Spanish and Nahuatl, originally spoken in the Aztec empire; the codeswitching, the braiding languages; the transgression of genre boundaries) and defy any attempt of translation based on traditionalist language conceptions. Based on that, we propose an analysis of how the corpus of this research allows new possibilities of thinking translation and the consequences of these analyses for a translation ethics and for the translator (if we can think in such terms). Such analysis is based on concepts and ideas proposed by poststructuralist linguists, translators and translation theorists such as Lawrence Venuti, Kanavillil Rajagopalan, and Alexis Nouss. We also base our study on the works of postmodern thinkers, such as Jacques Derrida, and postcolonialist writers, such as Homi Bhabha / Mestrado / Teoria, Pratica e Ensino da Tradução / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada

Rizo Patrón Boylan, Paul 25 September 2020 (has links)
The fall of the viceregal system and the birth of the Republic of Peru, generated various responses in those who lived through such a complex process. The elite - both peninsular and criollo in origin - had to make hasty decisions in face of the fluctuations of the moment, particularly unfavorable for the sector loyal to the crown. The realistas (or fidelistas) were the big losers in those changes. This thesis analyzes two behaviors that could not be more contrasted among those who opposed the breakup with Spain. They were two sides of the same coin: one was represented by Gaspar Antonio de Osma, a peninsular bureaucrat linked to Lima´s commercial aristocracy, while the other was a military nobleman of ancient ancestry in Cuzco and Lima. While the former -being Spanish- chose to adapt to independent Peru, the latter -having been born on these lands- refused to do so, emigrating to Spain. These cases show two extreme positions, which were possibly the margins of a range of options. That of the peninsular who remained in republican Peru, next to his family, must have been less traumatic than that of the uprooted army officer from his place of origin. Osma was able to adapt to the new system while his counterpart, Zavala, achieved no more success than a few honorary distinctions, before returning at the end of his life to die in a country that, paradoxically, was going through a more stable situation than mid XIXth century Spain. / Tesis
