Hoje é consenso que os esqueletos Euclidianos devem ter as seguintes características: ï¬?nos, centrados, homotópicos e reversíveis, i.e., suficientes para a reconstrução do objeto original. Neste trabalho, introduzimos o Eixo Mediano Euclidiano Exato em Resolução Aumentada -HMA, com o objetivo de obter um eixo mediano mais ï¬?no do que o obtido pela definição clássica. Combinando o HMA com um eï¬?ciente algoritmo de afinamento paralelo homotópico, propomos um esqueleto Euclidiano que é centrado, homotópico, reversível e mais ï¬?no que os já existentes na literatura. O esqueleto proposto tem a particularidade adicional de ser único e independente de decisões arbitrárias. São dados algoritmos e provas, assim como exemplos de aplicações dos esqueletos propostos em imagens reais, mostrando as vantagens da proposta. O texto inclui também uma revisão bibliográfica sobre algoritmos de transformada de distância, eixo mediano e esqueletos homotópicos / Abstract: The extraction of Euclidean skeletons is a subject of great importance in the domain of image processing and it has been discussed by the scientiï¬?c community since more than 20 years.Today it is a consensus that Euclidean skeletons should present the following characteristics: thin, centered, homotopic and reversible, i.e., sufï¬?cient for the reconstruction of the original object. In this work, we introduce the Exact Euclidean Medial Axis in Higher Resolution -HMA, with the objective of obtaining a medial axis which is thinner than the one obtained by the classical medial axis deï¬?nition. By combining the HMA with an efï¬?cient parallel homotopic thinning algorithm we propose an Euclidean skeleton which is centered, homotopic, reversible and thinner than the existing similars in the literature. The proposed skeleton has the additional particularity of being unique and independent of arbitrary choices. Algorithms and proofs are given, as well as applicative examples of the proposed skeletons in real images, showing the advantages of the proposal. Optical imaging and two-photon microscopy study of hemodynamic changes contralateral to ictal focus during epileptiform discharges

Il est relativement bien établi que les crises focales entraînent une augmentation régionale du flot sanguin dans le but de soutenir la demande énergétique en hémoglobine oxygénée des neurones épileptiques. Des changements hémodynamiques précoces ont également été rapportés dans la région homologue controlatérale, bien que ceci ait été moins bien caractérisé. Dans cette étude, notre objectif est de mieux caractériser, lors de crises focales, la nature des changements hémodynamiques précoces dans la région homologue controlatérale au foyer épileptique. L'imagerie optique intrinsèque (IOI) et la microscopie deux-photons sont utilisées pour étudier les changements hémodynamiques dans la région homologue controlatérale au site de crises focales induites par l’injection de 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) dans le cortex somatosensitif ipsilatéral de souris. Dans l'étude d'IOI, des changements de l’oxyhémoglobine (HbO), de la désoxyhémoglobine (HbR) et du débit sanguin cérébral ont été observées dans la région homologue controlatérale au site de crises focales lors de toutes les crises. Toutefois, ces changements étaient hétérogènes, sans patron cohérent et reproduisible. Nos expériences avec la microscopie deux-photons n’ont pas révélé de changements hémodynamiques significatifs dans la région homotopique controlatérale lors de trains de pointes épileptiques. Nos résultats doivent être interprétés avec prudence compte tenu de plusieurs limitations: d’une part absence de mesures électrophysiologiques dans la région d’intérêt controlatérale au foyer simultanément à l’imagerie deux-photons et à l'IOI; d’autre part, lors des expériences avec le deux-photons, incapacité à générer de longues décharges ictales mais plutôt des trains de pointes, couverture spatiale limitée de la région d’intérêt controlatérale, et faible puissance suite au décès prématuré de plusieurs souris pour diverses raisons techniques. Nous terminons en discutant de divers moyens pour améliorer les expériences futures. / It has been well demonstrated that focal seizures are associated with a significant increase in regional cerebral blood flow to actively supply discharging neurons with oxygenated hemoglobin. There is also some evidence to suggest that focal seizures elicit early hemodynamic changes in the contralateral homotopic area, although this has been less well documented. In this study, we aim to better characterize the nature of early hemodynamic responses contralateral to the epileptic focus during seizures. We used intrinsic optical imaging (IOI) and two-photon laser microscopy to measure the hemodynamic changes in the homotopic contralateral area following focal seizures induced by an injection of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) in the mouse somatosensory neocortex. In the study using IOI, oxyhemoglobin (HbO), deoxyhemoglobin (HbR) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) changes were observed in the homotopic area contralateral to the focus during all seizures. However, these changes were rather heterogenous, lacking any consistent or reproducible pattern. Our two-photon study showed no significant hemodynamic changes at the capillary level in the homotopic area contralateral to the ictal focus during epileptic spike trains. However, these findings must be interpreted cautiously in light of several limitations we encountered during the experiments. Specifically, we were unable to simultaneously record electrophysiology in the contralateral homotopic area. Furthermore, during our two-photon experiments, we failed to induce long ictal discharges (inducing only spike trains) had a limited sampling of the contralateral homotopic area and reduced power as a result of low mice survival rate. We conclude by providing alternatives to possibly improve future experiments.

Homotopical Aspects of Mixed Hodge Theory

In the present work, we analyse the categories of mixed Hodge complexes and mixed Hodge diagrams of differential graded algebras in these two directions: we prove the existence of both a Cartan-Eilenberg structure, via the construction of cofibrant minimal models, and a cohomological descent structure. This allows to interpret the results of Deligne, Beilinson, Morgan and Navarro within a common homotopical framework. In the additive context of mixed Hodge complexes we recover Beilinson's results. In our study we go a little further and show that the homotopy category of mixed Hodge complexes, and the derived category of mixed Hodge structures are equivalent to a third category whose objects are graded mixed Hodge structures and whose morphisms are certain homotopy classes, which are easier to manipulate. In particular, we obtain a description of the morphisms in the homotopy category in terms of morphisms and extensions of mixed Hodge structures, and recover the results of Carlson [Car80] in this area. As for the multiplicative analogue, we show that every mixed Hodge diagram can be represented by a mixed Hodge algebra which is Sullivan minimal, and establish a multiplicative version of Beilinson's Theorem. This provides an alternative to Morgan's construction. The main difference between the two approaches is that Morgan uses ad hoc constructions of models à la Sullivan, specially designed for mixed Hodge theory, while we follow the line of Quillen's model categories or Cartan-Eilenberg categories, in which the main results are expressed in terms of equivalences of homotopy categories, and the existence of certain derived functors. In particular, we obtain not only a description of mixed Hodge diagrams in terms of Sullivan minimal algebras, but we also have a description of the morphisms in the homotopy category in terms of certain homotopy classes, parallel to the additive case. In addition, our approach generalizes to broader settings, such as the study of compactificable analytic spaces, for which the Hodge and weight filtrations can be defined, but do not satisfy the properties of mixed Hodge theory. Combining these results with Navarro's functorial construction of mixed Hodge diagrams, and using the cohomological descent structure defined via the Thom-Whitney simple, we obtain a more precise and alternative proof of that the rational homotopy type, and the rational homotopy groups of every simply connected complex algebraic variety inherit functorial mixed Hodge structures. As an application, and extending the Formality Theorem of Deligne-Griffiths-Morgan-Sullivan for compact Kähler varieties and the results of Morgan for open smooth varieties, we prove that every simply connected complex algebraic variety (possibly open and singular) and every morphism between such varieties is filtered formal: its rational homotopy type is entirely determined by the first term of the spectral sequence associated with the multiplicative weight filtration. / En aquest treball, analitzem les categories de complexos de Hodge mixtos i de diagrames de Hodge d'àlgebres diferencials graduades en aquestes dues direccions: provem l'existència d'una estructura de Cartan-Eilenberg, via la construcció de models cofibrants minimals, i d'una estructura de descens cohomològic. Aquest estudi permet interpretar els resultats de Deligne, Beilinson, Morgan i Navarro en un marc homotòpic comú.
