In this age of mass cultural exchange, hip hop culture itself endures glocalization, that is it serves the global market, but becomes customized to suit the local culture. Where hip hop was orginally confined to specfic boroughs In New York, hip hop artists are now composing from their own local thresholds in regions all over the United States and worldwide. Virginia USA is a region that is increasingly thriving in regards to hip hop artists, fan base, and lifestyles. The hip hop identities found in Virginia are a product of Virginia's situatedness in the broader hip hop landscape. Este trabalho apresenta uma análise sobre a difusão do rap no cenário cultural, a partir da influência de um dos principais mediadores culturais presentes nesse processo, a mídia hegemônica. Dessa maneira, buscou-se identificar as consequências desse fenômeno nos processos de produção, difusão e recepção cultural, a partir da análise da cobertura midiática sobre o rap e o hip-hop no Brasil, entre os anos 1980 e 2000. Partindo da premissa de que o rap figura como uma ferramenta de instrumentalização da luta pelo reconhecimento de direitos das minorias políticas, além de revelar uma linguagem estética relevante, que rompe com os padrões tradicionais de produção artística, a presente pesquisa foca no processo de mediação do rap pelo agente midiático, especificamente, a partir da veiculação de seu conteúdo no jornal Folha de S.Paulo, nas revistas Veja e BIZZ e na programação da emissora MTV. Considerando o fato de que o rap se constitui em uma expressão inovadora, tanto no campo cultural quanto social, durante a trajetória da pesquisa ficou evidente o seu apelo mercadológico e o crescente interesse com que a mídia acompanhou a evolução desse fenômeno. Considerando a aproximação da mídia à cena rap, foi possível verificar a influência exercida da primeira sobre a segunda, revelando as relações simbióticas e recíprocas entre as esferas de mediação, produção e de circulação no campo cultural. A análise também revelou que a abordagem da mídia tradicional sobre o rap mobiliza códigos que o associam a três perspectivas: moda, movimento e mercado. A alternância do predomínio de uma dessas abordagens se alinha às transformações sociais e à emergência de novos discursos que ecoam em um determinado contexto. Contudo, a partir da ocupação de um espaço definitivo do rap na mídia hegemônica e da consolidação de um mercado próprio, o rap passa a contar com uma nova frente dentro do movimento que se mobiliza a partir dos recursos materiais e simbólicos em voga para elaborar estratégias alternativas de produção, difusão e comercialização cultural. / This work presents an analysis about the rap diffusion in the cultural scene, starting from the influence of one of the main cultural mediators present in this process, the mainstream media. Therefore, it was identified the consequences of this phenomenon in production processes, dissemination and cultural reception, from the analysis of media coverage of the rap and hip-hop in Brazil, between the years of 1980 and 2000. Considering that rap figures as tool of instrumentalization of the struggle for recognition of rights of political minorities, besides proves itself a relevant aesthetic language, which breaks with traditional patterns of artistic production, the following research focuses on the process of mediation by rap media agent, specifically, based on the diffusion of their content in Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, in the magazines Veja and BIZZ and on MTV station. Considering the fact that rap constitutes an innovative expression, both in the cultural field as social, while devoloping this research, it became clear its marketing appeal and the growing interest that the media followed the evolution of this phenomenon. Considering the approach of the media to rap scene, it was possible to identify the influence exerted from media to rap, revealing the symbiotic and reciprocal relationship between mediation spheres, production and circulation in the cultural field. The analysis also revealed that the approach and influence of traditional media over the rap mobilizes codes that combines it into three perspectives: fashion, moviment and market. The alternation of the predominance of one of these approaches is aligned with the social changes and the emergence of new discourses that echo in a determinated context. However, from the occupation of a definitive rap space in the mainstream media and the consolidation of its own market, the rap now has a new front in the movement that is mobilized from the material and symbolic resources in vogue to develop alternative strategies production, dissemination and cultural marketing.

A malária é uma doença tropical negligenciada causada por protozoários do gênero Plasmodium spp, afeta populações em mais de 100 países ao redor do globo, apresentando 219 milhões de novos casos por ano sendo, portanto, um grave problema de saúde pública. Apresenta um ciclo complexo e digenético, necessitando do mosquito vetor e do hospedeiro vertebrado para se completar - ciclo este que envolve etapas de transformação e adaptação, já que o patógeno passa por 28 formas diferentes ao longo do ciclo, além de enfrentar situações de stress térmico, no momento do contágio e durante os picos febris. Sendo assim, é necessário que o protozoário garanta sua sobrevivência e possibilite a infecção do hospedeiro. Isso é realizado com a assistência de chaperonas moleculares, proteínas estas que são superexpressas no estágio intra-eritrocitário. Uma dessas proteínas é a Hsp90, uma Heat shock protein com diferentes funções, entre elas, maturação de proteínas clientes, encaminhamento de proteínas para translocação por membranas e marcação de proteínas para degradação. Para cumprir adequadamente as diversas funções, as Hsp90 contam com o auxílio de co-chaperonas, como a Hsp70/Hsp90 Organizing Protein (Hop) que modulam sua função. A Hop é uma co-chaperona do sistema foldossoma formado pelas Hsp70 e Hsp90 citoplasmáticas e que atua como proteína adaptadora transferindo proteínas clientes da primeira para a segunda chaperona molecular. A interação da Hop com Hsp70 e Hsp90 ocorre via domínios TPR, que se ligam ao motivo EEVD presente na extremidade C-terminal de ambas as chaperonas citoplasmáticas. É encontrada em diversos organismos, incluindo Plasmodium falciparum, o agente etiológico da malária. Sendo assim, conhecer a Hop de P. falciparum (PfHop), estrutural e funcionalmente, é importante para o entendimento do funcionamento das Hsp90 e Hsp70, proteínas essenciais para a sobrevivência do patógeno e, portanto, possíveis alvos terapêuticos. A PfHop recombinante foi obtida com pureza superior a 95%. A caracterização biofísica da mesma foi feita através de diferentes técnicas. Como outras Hops, a PfHop é majoritariamente constituída por hélices alfa. Os parâmetros hidrodinâmicos determinados sugerem que a PfHop se comporta como um equilíbrio monômero-dímero quando em solução. Dados de espalhamento de raios X a baixo ângulo mostram a PfHop como uma proteína dimérica e alongada. It presents a complex and digenetic cycle, necessitating the vector mosquito and the vertebrate host to complete - this cycle involves transformation and adaptation stages, since the pathogen goes through 28 different forms along the cycle, besides facing situations of thermal stress , At the time of the contagion and during the feverish peaks. This thesis asks why women gangsta rappers have been excluded from virtually all academic and popular discourses about the genre. While ‘positive’ and ‘empowering’ New York-based female rappers in the late 80s and 90s are often referenced by those concerned with gangsta rap’s misogynistic tendencies, women rappers in Los Angeles who performed alongside male gangsta rappers, were represented on labels managed by gangsta rappers, and were otherwise self-consciously engaging in the gangsta rap style are almost never acknowledged by either the genre’s defenders or detractors. By interrogating this discursive absence, I reevaluate the neoliberal sexual and racial politics of gangsta rap’s censorship discourse and interrogate the rhetorical and representational strategies deployed by female gangsta rappers such as Lady of Rage, Bo$$, NiNi X, Menajahtwa, H.W.A., and Yo-Yo to both contest misogyny and express coalitional affinity with their male counterparts from within the genre itself.

The present study is a delving in the rhetoric of Spanish hip hop with focus on five songs of some of the most prominent artists in the genre in Spain. The aim is a study of the rhetorical figures present in these songs and which function they have in the context of the songs and of hip-hop. The analysis is based on previous studies in the same field as well as different dictionaries and handbooks of rhetorical figures but many conclusions also derive from the investigators own interpretations . The underlying purpose of this study is to locate tendencies in the rhetorical expression used in these songs; the result will be a suggestion of what possibly could be representative for this genre in Spain. / El presente estudio es una indagación en la retórica del hip hop español, enfocado en cinco canciones de algunos de los artistas más prominentes del género en España. El propósito es estudiar las figuras retóricas halladas en las canciones seleccionadas y sus funciones en el contexto de las canciones y de hip-hop. El análisis se basa en investigaciones previas en el mismo ámbito así como en distintos manuales y diccionarios de figuras retóricas, si bien muchas de las conclusiones derivan también de las interpretaciones del investigador. La intención última de este estudio es localizar posibles tendencias de la expresión retórica en las canciones analizadas; el resultado es una propuesta de lo que según el análisis del presente corpus parece ser representativo de este género en España.

Nossa prática foi de um exercício de nomadismo na tentativa de acompanhar as linhas que foram tecidas ao longo dos encontros com a literatura, com os grupos que se agenciam com a Cultura Hip Hop, dando visibilidade aos modos de subjetivação, de singularização, aos afetos que escaparam de determinados territórios capturados pela cultura de massa e de estratégias de controle. Nesse processo, afetamos e fomos afetados pela história do Hip Hop que nos foi sendo percebida como narrativas de processos criadores. Tais processos foram sustentados por corpos vibráteis cujas intensidades dispararam movimentos de resistência com linhas de fuga que possibilitaram a produção de modos de existência singulares em relação aqueles produzidos pelos fluxos capitalísticos. Cartografar o movimento do desejo na vontade de expandir a vida através do agenciamento corpo-cidade-ruptura, significou entender que o devir não se repete e que sempre há algo no outro que nos transforma. / The present paper has the object of mapping the Hip Hop culture, being Breaking the focus study. Our practice was an exercise of nomadism in an attempt of following the lines drawn throughout the encounters with the literature with the groups that are influenced by the Hip Hop Culture, giving visibility to the modes of subjectivity, singularity and affections that escaped from certain territories captured by mass culture and control strategies. In this process, we affected and were affected by the history of Hip Hop that was being perceived as narratives of creative processes. Such processes were sustained by vibrating bodies whose intensities shoot resistance movements with lines of escape that allow the creation of particulars ways of existence related to those created by the capitalistic flows.. To map the movement of desire in the will of expanding life through the managing of body-city-breaking meant understand that the change does not repeat and that there is always something in the other that transforms one.
