Metodologia de inquérito dietético: estudo do método recordatório de 24 horas / Dietary survey methodology: study of the 24-hours recall method

Marlene Trigo 07 January 1994 (has links)
The validity of the 24-hours recall method was investigated compared with the method of the direct weighing of the foodstuffs consumed. The comparison took into consideration some of the data regarding the person interviewed (age, sex, schooling and occupation) and of the interviewer (technician or non-technician) and also considered the duration of the interviews of the 24-hours recall method. Further, the ability of this method to detect risk factors was also taken into consideration. For this purpose, the actual consumption of foodstuffs was researched, thus identifying energy, macro-nutrients and some micro-nutrients, of 100 individuals of 19 years or more of age, of both sexes, resident in the Caucaia do Alto district, Cotia county, São Paulo State. Was prepared especially for this research, pictures of food portions and the list of domestic measures and weight correspondent got from the same community by a previous study. With regard to energy and nutrients, the results of the recall method, underestimated energy, carbohydrates, iron and proteins for the male sex for some age groups. As for the difference between the sexes, there were significant differences for proteins and carbohydrates for the male sex age group of 40 to 60 years. It was discovered that the person interviewed performance in the 24-hours recall method, in terms of age and sex, was better than terms of schooling and occupation. Among the interviewers, the non-technicians showed more errors in lunch and dinner data. The interviews carried out in under 15 minutes contained more errors, whether by omission or by additioin of foodstuffs. In the identification of dietetic risk factors, the 24 hours - recall method didn\'t show a high degree of sensibility as the method of the direct weighing of food.

Measuring Success: Examining the Impact of Arizona's 4-Hour ELD Block

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: Arizona continues to implement the 4-hour ELD block despite opposition and concerns regarding is appropriateness and effectiveness. Research using state and national assessments show that English language learners continue to fall behind their English proficient peers in reading achievement even after the implementation of the 4-hour ELD block. In general, there is no proven direct correlation between the program and underachievement. This study evaluated the impact of the 4-hour ELD block on reading achievement by comparing similar reading-abled students that were in the program with students that were not. The study was conducted in a district located in a predominately Hispanic poor community in order to eliminate social and economical factors that could disadvantage one group over the other. The findings demonstrated there were no significant differences in the reading achievement between both groups, supporting arguments that the 4-hour ELD block has made little to no impact for ELL students. However, results demonstrate that early intervention may be significant in explaining increases in reading achievement. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Educational Administration and Supervision 2019

Quantifying Seismic Risk for Portable Ground Support Equipment at Vandenberg Air Force Base

Lowe, Joshua Brian 01 March 2010 (has links)
This project develops a quantitative method to evaluate the seismic risk for portable GSE at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Using the latest probability data available from the USGS, risk thresholds are defined for portable GSE having the potential to cause a catastrophic event. Additionally, an example tool for design engineers was developed from the seismic codes showing the tipping hazard case can be simplified into strict geometrical terms. The misinterpretation and confusion regarding the Range Safety 24 Hour Rule exemption can be avoided by assessing seismic risk for portable GSE. By using the methods herein to quantify and understand seismic risk, more informed risk decisions can be made by engineering and management. The seismic codes and requirements used and referenced throughout include but are not limited to IBC, ASCE 7, EWR 127-1, and AFSPCMAN 91-710.

Neutered Dragon: A Critical Look at the Career of Jackie Chan

Rezaie, Munib 01 January 2010 (has links)
Jackie Chan has had a long and consistently successful career in the entertainment industry, becoming the most universally recognized Chinese performer, second only perhaps, to Bruce Lee. His rags-to-riches path to stardom has been well documented and oft quoted. At a time when all the up-and-coming martial arts actors felt the pressure to be carbon copies of Bruce Lee, Chan made his mark on the screen by making his persona everything that Lee?s wasn?t. With 1978?s Snake in the Eagle?s Shadow and Drunken Master, Chan?s revolutionary comic and realistic persona was firmly established with audiences. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Chan remained undeniably the biggest star in the East, demonstrating wild popularity in not only Asia, but throughout Europe and Africa as well. After several failed attempts at breaking into the American market, Chan finally achieved success with 1998?s Rush Hour. Unfortunately, success in the West has come with strict limitations placed on the characters he has been allowed to play. These limitations most often manifest themselves in the sexuality and morality of the characters, as well as the dramatic opportunities available to Chan within the films. In order to keep Chan?s vast filmography ? which has recently seen him sign on to his 100th leading role ? I have separated it into three distinct stages. The first stage of his career begins with his groundbreaking turn in Snake in the Eagle?s Shadow and ends with his last Asian film before successfully breaking into Hollywood, 1998?s Who am I?. From this point on, his career takes two distinct paths: the path in Hollywood, beginning with Rush Hour, and the path in Asia, which begins with 1999?s Gorgeous. Each stage features distinct characteristics and trends with rare digression. I will provide examples from a selection of films within each stage of his career in order to clarify the traits and characteristics of the roles he has taken in each one. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. First and foremost, it will reveal the extent to which Chan faces negative stereotyping in the United States by clearly offering the contrasting positive representations he is able to achieve overseas. The second aim, which has naturally arisen from the workings of the first, is a critical look at a career that has found its actor bored with the kinds of films that have brought him worldwide fame.

The Influence of Dietary Restraint, Social Desirability, and Food Type on Accuracy of Reported Dietary Intake

Schoch, Ashlee Hirt 01 May 2010 (has links)
Underreporting in dietary assessment has been linked to dietary restraint (DR) and social desirability (SD). Thus, this study investigated accuracy of reporting energy intake (EI) of a laboratory meal during a 24-hour dietary recall (24HR) in 38 healthy, college-aged (20.3 +/- 1.7 years), normal-weight women (22.4 +/- 1.8 kg/m2), categorized as high or low in DR and SD. Participants consumed a meal (sandwich wrap, chips, fruit, and ice cream) and completed a telephone 24HR. Accuracy of reported intake = (((reported intake - measured intake)/measured intake) x 100) [positive numbers = overreporting]. Overreporting of EI was found in all groups (meal accuracy rate = 43.1 +/- 49.9%). An interaction of SD x individual foods (p < 0.05) occurred. SD-High as compared to SD-Low more accurately reported EI of chips (19.8 +/- 56.2% vs. 117.1 +/- 141.3%, p < 0.05) and ice cream (17.2 +/- 78.2% vs. 71.6 +/- 82.7%, p < 0.05). An effect of SD occurred, where SD-High as compared to SD-Low more accurately reported meal EI (29.8 +/- 48.2% vs. 58.0 +/- 48.8%, p < 0.05). For measured meal EI, an effect of DR occurred where DR-High consumed less than DR-Low (437 +/- 169 kcals vs. 559 +/- 207 kcals, p < 0.05). An interaction of DR x food type (p < 0.05) occurred where DR-High as compared to DR-Low consumed less sandwich wrap (156 +/- 63 kcals vs. 210 +/- 76 kcals, p < 0.05) and ice cream (126 +/-73 kcals vs. 190 +/- 106 kcals, p < 0.05). For reported meal EI, an effect of DR occurred where DR-High reported consuming less than DR-Low (561 +/- 200 kcals vs. 818 +/- 362 kcals, p < 0.05). An interaction of DR x individual foods (p < 0.05) occurred where DR-High reported consuming less ice cream than DR-Low (145 +/- 91 kcals vs. 302 +/- 235 kcals, p < 0.05). Overreporting EI from a laboratory meal was prevalent. However, those high in SD were more accurate in reporting intake, particularly of high-fat foods. Future research is needed to investigate factors that contribute to overreporting.

Linking Satellite Imagery To Bright Sunshine Hours For The Estimation Of Global Solar Irradiation

Ener Rusen, Selmin 01 March 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis is on the estimation models for the daily global solar irradiation on a horizontal surface at the surface of the Earth. New approaches are developed and applied to 15 locations of Turkey and Germany. The main idea in developing the new models is to link the surface data to satellite imagery. Totally three new modeling approaches are developed and tested. Surface data of daily bright sunshine hours (s) and cloud index (n) values derived from satellite images are the main input parameters. In the first approach, monthly coefficients of Angstr&ouml / m linear relation between daily solar irradiation and daily bright sunshine hours are used to replace the clear sky irradiance calculations of HELIOSAT model. In the second approach new correlations are obtained between daily bright sunshine hours (s) and cloud index (n). Last model that is developed uses a new correlation expression between daily solar irradiation and daily data of s and n and this expression is derived using a physical consideration. The performances of the proposed models are tested against conventional methods (mainly, satellite-based HELIOSAT and ground-based linear Angstr&ouml / m-Prescott type). The results show that the use of sunshine duration together with the cloud index is quite satisfactory in the estimations of daily global solar irradiation. The accuracy of estimations of the combined models is considerably higher than the conventional approaches. Therefore, we propose to use the new approaches to estimate daily global irradiation whenever the data of bright sunshine hours is available for the location of interest or a nearby station. In addition, for a point on the earth surface, depending on the data in hand, suitable and most accurate models of estimations are proposed for that point.

Do not hope for the best, plan for the worst! : En studie kring Service Recovery vid två svenska företag samt en introduktion av en ny modell inom Service Recovery

Wollner, David, Nilsson, Johan, Kocdemir, Özer January 2011 (has links)

Environment Setting¡BExecution Procedure and Interaction Model for Conducting Effective Online Office Hour

Shih, Sheng-Chieh 02 August 2004 (has links)
Interaction is very important to all kind of education, including traditional face-to-face classroom lecture and e-Learning. Numerous attempts have been made by researchers to propose some asynchronous interaction methods. Only few studies have so far been made at synchronous ones. Synchronous Office Hour has recently brought to light by some researches. But so far the study of the know-how to conduct it effectively for teachers and students has never been examined. The aim of this paper is to explore the know-how. This research adopts Case Study to collect and analyze representative unique case from NSYSU Cyber University. The case is representative because of the sophisticated teacher, diverse interaction model and enthusiastic discussion. Data collection includes participant observation, deep open interviews, text records, video records, asynchronous board and electronic documents. Data analysis is based on three steps, including pick up key words from different data sources, reorganize the relation of key words and coding. We not only build initial Office Hour framework but also formula the environment setting, execution procedure and interaction model for conducting effective online Office Hour. The most important addition to be made is the value of Synchronous Office Hour to teachers and students.
