Moving from Daji towards Noma: Changing the perception of a spiritual towards a treatable disease : A case study of Hilfsaktion Noma e.V. in NigerDe Vriese, Shauni Denise January 2021 (has links)
Noma is a neglected non-contagious disease of the face and mouth affecting children living in extreme poverty. Due to the quick spread of the disease, the mortality rate is estimated at 90% when treatment is not started within two weeks of onset. Even though Hilfsaktion Noma e.V. (HAN) has been actively spreading awareness about the disease and offering treatment and reconstructive surgery, the mortality rate has not decreased. Moreover, patients reaching the noma centre often present severe sequela, affecting their speech, eating and drinking ability. Therefore, this study investigates the challenges faced by noma patients to seek medical care in Niger and how to overcome them. A mixed-method approach was performed; a survey among healthcare workers of HAN was supplemented with an interview with a key informant of the organisation in order to get a wider understanding of the possible challenges noma patients encounter. Accessibility to healthcare, as well as distance to the hospital and lack of transportation means were identified as the challenges with the highest impact on the health-seeking behaviour of noma patients. The lack of knowledge about noma and treatment costs were the second main challenge. This information gap is reflected in stigmatization, inadequate health care staff and seeking aid from traditional healers, which seriously endangers the life of patients. To overcome these challenges, a community-based surveillance system in combination with a multisectoral approach was proposed. This low-cost system can not only eliminate noma by facilitating the early detection of noma patients, but it can also contribute to sustainable health in Niger and other countries in the Noma belt.

Open data – It’s sensitive : A study exploring obstacles and enablers of publishing Open data at two types of Swedish Governmental agenciesIsraelsson, Johan January 2022 (has links)
There is currently an effort within the European Union and Sweden to make data produced by government agencies available for reuse to citizens and organizations. While Sweden has had a long history of sharing information with its citizens the country is currently behind its northern neighboring countries when it comes to publishing government data openly. In this study, the author seeks to find if there are types of governmental agencies whose work makes it easier or harder to make it available for reuse. This was done in two phases; in the first phase, the author identified overrepresented and underrepresented agency types on Sweden’s open data portal. In the second phase, the author interviewed two agencies from an overrepresented agency type and two agencies from an underrepresented agency type, to learn what has enabled the overrepresented agencies and what has prevented the underrepresented agencies to publish data openly. The results show that agencies that have sensitive data, in general, had a harder time publishing their data openly than those which did not. The agencies that were underrepresented on the Swedish data portal also had decentralized data generation methods and ways of storage that negatively impacted their ability to publish data openly. What enabled the overrepresented agencies to publish data, beyond having a low amount of sensitive data was the tangible benefits of publishing data openly and the organizational willingness that came with these benefits.

Opportunities and impediments in the implementation of environmental education within Curriculum 2005 : a Lusikisiki district case studyRuhinda, Bernadette 31 December 2004 (has links)
This study investigated the opportunities and impediments that were present in C2005 and which impacted on the implementation of environmental education in selected schools in the Lusikisiki District of the Eastern Cape Province.
The sample consisted of 12 learners from grade 2 to grade 7, 26 educators and 2 parents from 2 GET band schools. Two Department of Education Officials also formed part of the sample. Interviews were conducted and observations were made within the two schools to get an insight on the position and status of environmental education in the two schools.
The study's findings indicated that the position and status of environmental education in the two schools were low although all the stakeholders had a desire to see things improving.
The study puts forward some recommendations and review of environmental education implementation strategies. It also makes suggestions for further related investigation in this area. / Educational Studies / M.Ed(Environmental Education))

This thesis attempts to critically and comparatively analyse the doctrine of exemption/frustration /force majeure under the United Nations Convention on the Contract for International Sale of Goods (CISG) the UNIDRIOT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UNIDROIT) and the English Law. The doctrine of exemption/frustration/force majeure is very important in the area of contract and commercial law, it is a doctrine deeply rooted in fairness and allows a party to be excused from performing an obligation in a contract if at the conclusion of the contract an inhibition beyond the foreseeable control of the party happens to render the performance of the contract impossible. However, it is not easy to effectively streamline this doctrine and properly determine its applications. It has been observed in this thesis that, the doctrines of exemption/frustration /force majeure are not exactly the same; this thesis explores in details severally and jointly the various differences and similarities in the interpretations and applications of these impossibility doctrines. For instance, the open and flexible use of words in the definition of this doctrine under the CISG and the UNIDROIT Principles left much to be desired. Thus, it is one of the succinct arguments of this thesis that couching international law in loose words will work against the uniformity of application of this law, due to the different interpretations national law courts will be subjecting it to. This among other issues retarded the growth and development of the doctrine of exemption and force majeure. Furthermore, English law stance on the doctrine of frustration which can be gleaned from both the Sale of Goods Act of 1979 and the Common law are far from being adequate and need to be updated. This thesis therefore incisively laid bare the applications, interpretations and way forward for the doctrine of exemption/frustration/force majeure under the legal instruments of focus of this work. The thesis also comparatively compares the relationship between the doctrine of frustration/force majeure/exemption and other related doctrines like mistake, termination, avoidance, risk, and hardship. The thesis is concluded with a Draft Model Frustration Clause (DMFC) which is an attempt to rise above the status quo doctrine of frustration in the extant laws and develop a frustration clause that will be able to provide answers to the many flaws that trail these laws.

This diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of the constitution of marriage legal regulation in the new Civil Code and the relating legislation. Primarily, it deals with the concept and the purpose of marriage, along with the moment of its constitution and, it outlines alternative forms of entering into marriage. The thesis further analyses the difference between the civil and religious marriage. The major chapter is devoted to entering into marriage with an international jurisdiction conflict because the number of marriages between Czech citizens with foreigners continues to increase. It becomes more frequent that the Czech citizens enter into marriage abroad. At the end, the causes and consequences of the putative marriage and the invalidity of the entering into marriage are examined.
