Narrative of Working Experience for the Managers Dispatched to China Return to Taiwan

CHEN, MING-TIEN 06 August 2012 (has links)
In recent years, with the economic development in China and the direct flights between Taiwan and China; there are more and more Taiwanese enterprises invest in China industrial market. This business environment change results in the increasing Taiwanese employees travelling between China and Taiwan frequently, or even been dispatched to China for long-term. In the future, the opportunities of work exchange between Taiwan and China will increase rapidly. Taiwan and China has no language barrier, however, the thinking logic, attitude towards work, and corporate management style between two places are fairly divergent. All these differences impact both Taiwanese and Chinese enterprises development. Today, China¡¦s workers strive for their work and almost catch up with Taiwan. Do Taiwan¡¦s workers notice it? The author has been dispatched to China for more than five years, and returned to Taiwan for three years. We can see the way of business management and the working environment between Taiwan and China through the experience of author. This narrative will give an overview and suggestions to those Taiwanese who is willing to work in China, and to those Taiwanese who plan to return to Taiwan market. For the workers who are seeking for opportunities of work exchange, the author suggests they should have abilities such as authorization management, regulate the rhythm of the work, resource integration, and excellent communication skill with local workers. On the other hand, for the workers who return to Taiwan job market, face to the primary depression, adjust mindset, and balance work and family lives are the keys to a successful transfer.

Design of a Wireless LAN Medium Access Controller on the ARM-based Platform

Yang, Cheng-Hsien 03 September 2003 (has links)
It is a future trend to include the function of wireless networking in portable electronic devices, such as notebooks, tablet PC, PDA, mobile phone, and other information applicants. IEEE 802.11 is the most popular wireless LAN protocol that defines the functions in the medium access control (MAC) layer and physical layer. In this thesis, we design and implement a flexible and reusable soft IP (Intellectual Property) for wireless MAC that is compatible with AMBA system and can be used in SOC applications. The wireless MAC supports buffer descriptors, interrupt and DMA. The IP provides an AMBA-compatible interface for the host system bus, and provides a communication interface for the baseband processor in the physical layer.

From success to failure ~why some good enterprises fail

Lee, Chia-hui 22 June 2004 (has links)
In the process of economic developments in Taiwan, small and medium enterprises are always the main stable force and have made remarkable contributions. Based on this fact, The National Award of Small and Medium Enterprises was set up for upgrading and rewarding outstanding small and medium enterprises. To apply for the award firms need to pass substantially high qualifications. Therefore, if an enterprise won the award, they were recognized as successful. However, according to recent newspapers and magazines, some winners are now facing restructuring, the failure of the public offerings, or even bankruptcy. What happened to these enterprises that used to be good at the beginning? Why can¡¦t they sustain original advantages and remain successful? The subject of this research focuses on ¡§main reasons for business failure¡¨ and picks up the winners of the National Award of Small and Medium Enterprises for examples. Hopefully through the research, we can conclude the main reason for business failure. By gathering and analyzing the second informations, we have eight findings¡G Finding 1¡BThe ¡§business cycle¡¨ is often an important reason for the business failure. Small and medium businesses are most easily affected by the variation of outside environment. Finding 2¡BThe deviating personality of the managers determines whether the enterprise enjoys excellent operations or collapses in a twinkling. Finding 3¡BMost enterprises make use of "the backdoor listing"," the cross holdings" to steer high financial leverage and to collect a great deal of short-term capital which leads to financial crisis. Finding 4¡BThe operation of the corporation is not efficient, neglecting the real market demand, as a result being eliminated in the competition. Finding 5¡BThe most common feature of the corporations going down in the 70¡¦s is high quoted loans among IPO companies. Their debt ratio overweighs, and the core business occurs severe loss in business. Finding 6¡BThe strong stockholder combines the outside power to create soaring stock price. In the end it leads to misfortune. Finding 7¡BIf managers don't know how to handle their assets suitably, the more they have, the easier they squander. Finding 8¡BThe development of the industry faces the bottleneck and knows not where to go.

Parallel Connecting New Product Development Process¡GThe Case Study of Bicycle Industry in Taiwan

Chang, Yung-Chi 28 July 2004 (has links)
This is a case study of Taiwan¡¦s bicycle industry. With the view of international standards we tried to explore the integration of the new product development process in Taiwan¡¦s bicycle industry. We have found that Taiwan¡¦s assemblers and components suppliers are parallel connected to interact with foreign buyers simultaneously. And all the R&D services to which every member offered are finally integrated under the instructions of the foreign buyers. We describe such a cooperation mode as ¡¥Parallel Connecting New Product Development Process¡¦. We argue that this new kind of cooperation mode is better than the traditional sequential staging model that is represented as ¡¥vertical connecting¡¦ cooperation mode in innovation flexibility and speed because of the communication efficiency and convenience to the OEM buyers. In this thesis we will describe the new product development interactions among the foreign buyers, components suppliers and the assemblers. And we will also discuss the competitive advantages and the causes of such a new cooperation mode. With this kind of cooperation mode we also discuss the R&D management implications for the small and medium sized enterprises in Taiwan. We argue that this new kind of cooperation mode can bring a new management implication to the small and medium sized enterprises in Taiwan, which is different from the main argument in the literature of strategic flexibility.

Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks with Multipacket Reception and Queueing

Chen, Guan-Mei 26 July 2005 (has links)
In this thesis, we propose the predictive multicast polling scheme for medium access control in wireless networks with multipacket reception capability. We concentrate on the case in which the packet arrival process is general and the maximum queue size is finite but larger than one. We derive both analytical results and simulation results. We use the theory of discrete-time Markov chain to analyze the evolution of the system state. In addition, we propose to use Markov reward processes to calculate the throughput. Furthermore, we obtain the average system size, the packet blocking probability, and the average packet delay. The proposed analysis approach is applicable no matter whether perfect state information is available to the controller or not. We also use simulation results to justify the usage of the proposed approach. Our study shows that the system performance can be significantly improved with a few additional buffers in the queues. The proposed medium access control scheme can be used in the single-hop wireless local area networks and the multi-hop wireless mesh networks.

The research for local medium enterprise growth strategy-rubber processing industies

Wu, Chaw-yee 26 August 2005 (has links)
Local medium enterprises used to make economic miracles for Taiwan. However,in the wake of the changes in the macro environment, the rapid development of technology, changes in people¡¦s needs, increasing awareness of job safety and environmental protection, changes in the structure of workplace, capital and human resources moving to China as a result of rising mainland China, and recent rising prices of materials, local medium enterprises have been badly shattered, and their survival space has been squeezed. Rubber processing industries are in especially dire situations because they are labor-intensive and operate in inferior working conditions. So this research was designed to investigate how medium and small rubber processing industries, operating under such hostile business environment, can make good use of resources, overcome unfavorable environmental factors so as to energize business and continue business growth. Through literature investigation, this study used Advantages in Business Competition authored by professor Fang Chih-Min as the main research framework. At the same time, in combination with the review of other literature, through a process of affective learning, this study summarized, compiled and put forth a contention that a business must have advantages lying in ¡§ability to use resources effectively,¡¨¡§ability to achieve internal growth,¡¨ and ¡§ability to achieve external growth¡¨ before it can grow. The study inferred a topic from this contention. Then research was conducted based on case study approach. It was expected to understand, from this topic, what conditions would happen to the case and how to solve them. The results would be contrasted with theory, hoping to investigate and find out what would play a critical role in affecting the growth of a business. Then through practical verification, this study summarized, compiled, and proposed conclusions and suggestions. Through the research of this study, it was initially found that the essence of management would not change because of the size of a business and that how to conduct optimal use of limited resources to construct competition edge which is not related to size plays a vital role of the growth of small businesses. Moreover, in addition to strengthening their mainstream business, small businesses must also plan to enter businesses that can grow and profit tremendously so as to speed up their growth. As to suggestions offered to the case companies, in addition to enhancing their internal operation and management, they should also make good use of external resources to optimize the performance of resources, which would be the key to their growth.

Impact of Fitness between Learner¡¦s Information Processing Abilities and Content¡¦s Media Types on Learning Performance in Adaptive Learning Environment

Tsai-Wang, Hsieh 05 September 2006 (has links)
By the catholicity of Internet and the advances of information technology, more and more people use the e-Learning to do the teaching and learning activities. However, whether using the abundant multimedia learning content can really achieve better learning performance? This study tries to use the information processing theory to discuss the impact of fitness bwteeen learner¡¦s different information processing abilities and content¡¦s medium types on cognitive load and learning performance. That is if learner¡¦s information processing abilities can fit with content medium types would result better learning performance. We found that firstly, the diversity of learners¡¦ individual information processing abilities has no impact to the cognitive load. Secondly, the different content medium types with the same quantity of media content also have no impact to the cognitive load. Lastly, the wordy ability learners with wordy content medium type or the phonic ability learners with audio content medium type can lower learner¡¦s cognitive load. It is suggested that educators can apply the results for the adaptive learning. By using information processing ability analysis system to classify learners into wordy ability and phonic ability learners and then give them adaptive content materials according to their own information processing abilities.

The research of Taiwan small and medium enterprise competitive advantage on transnational business ¡V An empirical study of traditional metal processing industries.

Lin, Wern-kuang 27 June 2007 (has links)
Since the early 1980, the economic development of Taiwan has mainly relied on the small and medium-sized businesses that steadily play the important roles in leading the development of globalization of Taiwan industries. However, under the trend of mergers and acquisitions between businesses and grandization of the enterprises, the operation of the small and medium-sized businesses has faced a tough challenge and competition from foreign businesses, especially the traditional metal processing industry, which forces the small and medium-sized businesses have to upgrade and transform themselves. Currently China has already become the global manufacturing plant and the international investment center in Asia. In 2002, Taiwan and China joined WTO at the same time; Taiwan metal processing manufacturing industry faces the serious cost competition from China and pincer attack of American-European brand advantage in global markets. Under this difficult situation, it is very important for Taiwan traditional manufacturing industries to find out the better way to survive in the competitive environment. For example, the metal processing manufacturers in Taiwan are facing tough competitions from foreign businesses in a bidding war for opportunity to do business in China. Is it important for Taiwan's economy that the small and medium-sized businesses can compete against those foreign competitors? The Taiwanese small and medium-sized companies must join force and work together to compete and stay competitive in global industries. Under the new structure of WTO and the agitation for industry globalization, it is important for Taiwan's metal processing industry to do research and come up with a solution to be more competitive in the international market so as to grasp its own transnational competition advantage. The relevant research institutes in Taiwan should make this issue a top priority since Taiwan resources are very limited compared to other countries like Europe, the United States and Japan. They must work together in all aspects of business and share with each other their resources and knowledge to stay competitive in the current situation. This research adopts the theoretical foundation approach and real cases study. Aiming to Taiwan's metal processing industry, I invited two top managers for the metal processing companies in south Taiwan to have deep discussion on the problems they have been facing. Through the interviews with the two managers, I learn their business plans on transnational investments, experiences in tactics planning and transnational management¡Ketc., by which this research will focus on the study of the advantage of transnational investment that would become the core target for the small and medium-sized businesses to create synergy. The points of the main theme include institutional framework, financing, industry development, technological innovation, and competition between China and foreign countries on the study and judgment upon advantage tactics, such as shutting and strategic alliance. Under the changeable situation that several new developing markets are open, and that the newly-developed countries join the global competition, this research consults the transnational enterprises about their overall arrangement of investment and experiences of management to make Taiwan numerous traditional industries and the small and medium-sized business have macroscopically global vision of management tactics. The forming of the market regional economy and trade competition directly influences the future fortune of numerous small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan. Taiwan small and medium-sized businesses must gradually adjust themselves to globalization trend and make corresponding strategies for it while Mainland China is positively expanding international trade and improving technology and quality through national economy projects.
