Instituce EU - vývoj, proměny, problémy / Institutions of the EU - development, transformation, difficulty

Pavlík, Jaroslav January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis seeks to summarize the institutional development taken by the European Union so far (with a particular view to the changes brought about by the Treaty of Lisbon), and, based on this, to provide an assessment of the direction into which the European Union is headed at the beginning of this decade. Within this context, my thesis attempts to outline the various alternative scenarios for the future development of the EU's institutional framework; the likely candidates, to put it simply, are, on the one hand, even deeper integration in the form of a fiscal and political union, or, conversely, the abandonment of the idea of closer cooperation. Since the beginnings of the 1950s, the European Communities and, later, the European Union have been developing towards ever-increasing integration. Even today, one observes obvious tendencies towards intensifying this integration. However, this does not allow for the unambiguous conclusion that the European Union must result in the creation of a fiscal and political union. It is perfectly conceivable that the elected political representatives of individual member states may assume the opposite view, and that tendencies will prevail within the European Union towards a more informal collaboration among separate countries. The present work also attempts a comparison of the views held by politicians, political scientists, analysts, and intellectuals. One finds that even these authors do not arrive at clear-cut conclusions, nor should one expect them to be able to make such conclusions. This thesis draws attention to a number of contradictory aspects - chiefly among them the violation of the Maastricht criteria, and the obvious breach of Article 125 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which prohibits mutual financial assistance.

Religion and property rights / Náboženství a vlastnická práva

Minárik, Pavol January 2008 (has links)
Religion and post-communist transition are two of the many issues that have earned attention of economists and social scientist in the recent decades. This dissertation collects three papers dealing with different issues concerning religion and the transition. The first one attempts to assess the role of religion in the transition and its impact on country's success in this process; it also outlines opportunities for research in this field. The second paper tries to uncover the role of religion in formation of economic and social attitudes of the people in post-communist countries. Both papers conclude that religion matters; Western Christianity appears to be more compatible with market economy than Orthodox Christianity and Islam, although these two religions are not necessarily an obstacle. Finally, the third paper deals with religious participation in post-communist countries. It shows that religious behavior is not completely independent of economic conditions and religious revivals in the post-communist era can be interpreted in economic terms.

Ozdravné postupy a řešení krize bank / Bank Recovery and Resolution

Půlpánová, Karolína January 2021 (has links)
Bank Recovery and Resolution Abstract and keywords This diploma thesis systematically presents the European regulatory framework of recovery procedures and resolution of credit institutions and investment firms (BRRD), in the form of a directive, implemented into the Czech law in Act No. 374/2015 Coll., on recovery procedures and resolution on the financial markets. At the same time, the first major amendment to this directive, the so-called BRRD2, is incorporated into this thesis, which mainly implements the international standard of FSB for the specification of the total loss absorbing capacity into the EU law. The work is divided into 5 parts. The first part monitors the background of the BRRD, discusses the causes of the Global Financial Crisis, and what we deduce from them, and then discusses the global regulatory response to this crisis. The second chapter places the BRRD in a broader context within the Banking Union and presents its structure. The Banking Union is built on a single set of rules and is divided into two (in the future three) pillars. These are a single supervisory mechanism and a single resolution mechanism. The third part is where the introduction of the legislation itself begins; it starts with providing the information for the general requirements of the procedures under this...

Insolvence obchodních společností v kontextu práva Evropské unie a Spojených států amerických / Insolvency of business corporations in the context of European Union and United States law

Šerák, Martin January 2020 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce Despite the market relevance and cross-border operations of numerous credit and other financial institutions, the recent global financial crisis has clearly demonstrated that even the most significant conglomerates of the financial sector are not safe from the threat insolvency. Given cross-border activities of these institutions, any resolution of their market failure requires a comprehensive approach, inevitably facing also complexities arising from the presence of an international element. In this regard, this work examines persisting pitfalls pertaining to determination of international jurisdiction and applicable law, considering specific principles that govern current regulation of international insolvencies of credit institutions in conjunction with fundamental principles of universality and territoriality. With reference to existing case law, it is shown that despite the dogmatic dominance of the universality principle, the international solution of the insolvency of credit institutions still clashes with significant territorialism tendencies. Given the unique position of credit institutions and their systemic importance for financial stability, their resolution has traditionally been entrusted to supervisory authorities with competence. As a result, credit institutions...

A Gravity Approach to Modelling German Exports: The Role of Institutions / A Gravity Approach to Modelling German Exports: The Role of Institutions

Hadrová, Petra January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to implement the gravity model approach to identify and quantify determinants of bilateral trade flows of Germany and its trading partners, while focusing on the effect of institutions. Based on various gravity model techniques (clustered pooled OLS, Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood estimation, Hausman and Taylor estimation and Instrumental Variables regression), we have confirmed that the quality of institutions have a signifiant and positive effect on German exports. Depending on model specification and estimation technique, some institutions seem to effect German export more than others. We see the Hausman and Taylor estimator advisable for addressing endogeneity of institutions.

Diferenciace institucionální kvality a konkurenceschopnosti regionů Evropy / Differentiation of institutional quality and competitiveness of European regions

Staňková, Natálie January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of the quality of institutions illustrated with example the risk of corruption in public procurement, and the impact of the quality of institutions on the regional competitiveness. Specifically, it focuses on the relationship between corruption risk in public procurement and indicators of the quality of government, economic performance and innovation performance. The theoretical part deals with the role of institutions in regional development, and institutional factors influencing the competitiveness and innovation performance of regions, as well as corruption and its manifestations in public procurement. The empirical part presents the European interregional differences in the level of corruption in public procurement, and the impact of corruption in public procurement on the quality of government, economic performance and innovation performance. Research shows the corruption in public procurement determines the quality of government across European regions, especially in Western and Central Europe. On the other hand, corruption in public procurement has little effect on the economic and innovation performance of regions. Key worlds: institution, innovation, competitiveness, corruption, public procurement
