The author analyzed three different perspectives of the development of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) from the resource-based view. The first article discusses how the resource base impacts the internationalization behavior of German NTBFs. Some companies go international early, some internationalize only after a few years. We argued that the resource base is a substantial factor determining if a NTBF will internationalize or not. In the second article, we analyze how the resource base impacts the survival of German NTBFs. We argued that a lack of sufficient resources can lead to early business failure. We further state that the different resources are necessary to fulfill the requirements within the development phases of the NTBF. To broaden our perspective we combined the resource-based view with the market view. In the third article, we analyzed how the resource base impacts the business model innovation of NTBFs. The business model for NTBFs must often be tailored to fulfill the requirements of potential customers or to further grow the business. International experience is important to prepare university students for the modern labor market in the globalized knowledge economy. While financial, societal, and political obstacles may limit students’ mobility in developing countries, using Web 2.0 and Social Media applications can enable them to engage in a virtual social learning environment to interact with peers and instructors abroad in an enjoyable, inclusive international Virtual Collaborative Learning experience. This study investigates the factors influencing Palestinian students’ perception of this experience, and explores the enhancement potential to fit the needs of developing countries. Thirty-four contextual, design, and individual factors were linked by course participants from Palestine to their reported motivation, enjoyment, and satisfaction in this new learning scenario. Recommended improvements in the design and implementation of similar arrangements are concluded from the qualitative evaluation of this empirical case study.

Grenzüberschreitende Unternehmensverflechtungen, insbesondere Unternehmenskooperationen, können bei ökonomischer Integration in peripheren Regionen Impulse für das regionale Wachstum und eine Konvergenz der Grenzräume geben. Anhand der Analyse des Kooperationsgeschehens im südwestsächsisch-nordböhmischen Grenzgebiet werden die Bestimmungsgrößen der Kooperationsbereitschaft grenznaher Firmen abgeleitet. Besonders Lerneffekte bei der Internationalisierung sowie wahrnehmbare mikroökonomische Binnenmarkteffekte werden als Determinanten der Kooperationsbereitschaft herausgestellt. Die Auslandsengagements der Unternehmen weisen dabei überwiegend lediglich das Potenzial zur kurz-, maximal mittelfristigen Verbesserung der Wettbewerbsposition der kooperierenden Unternehmen auf. Als wachstums- und konvergenzfördernder Internationalisierungstyp wird deshalb die Verbundzusammenarbeit kleiner und mittlerer Unternehmen herausgestellt, von der in perspektivischer Sicht Impulse für eine Netzwerkbildung grenznaher Unternehmen ausgehen können.
