User-involved service innovation : Three participating perspectives on co-creation

The involvement of customers and other stakeholders in the innovation process is proposed to be a key success factor and something that makes companies more competitive. As a consequence, more and more organizations alter their innovation strategy accordingly. In order for a company to open up innovation processes, it is vital to foster a practice where there is openness for external ideas and knowledge. However, when external ideas meet internal innovation practices complex organizational situations appear. Creativity, for example, involves co-dependence of other persons’ strategies and actions. New roles for those involved affect hierarchies and knowledge sharing opportunities. This thesis involves three different perspectives of the same process provides an opportunity to study both individual and structural challenges. This research aims to identify on-going challenges for an organization during the transformational processes that adjustment from a traditional product innovation structure to an open service innovation culture implies. This qualitative case study involves two main cases and three supporting cases and aims to understand how users and other external parties, top management and middle managers experience open innovation processes. The results describe interactions between organizations and users or external stakeholders as well as internal interactions within the organization. Top management were dedicated to the idea of increased openness, but detected structural issues to deal with in order to implement user involved innovation. Among middle management, some individual aspects such as attitudes and relational issues matter, as well as organizational structures and practices. Users had mixed opinions about their participation in the process. Favorable experiences, such as benevolence and deepened relationships, were balanced by un-favorable experiences such as incapability and intrusion. Different dimensions of openness regarding open innovation practice are discussed. In this work a relational focus is emphasized. The findings assist managers in their work to create conditions for open innovation. Managers can benefit from this research by getting a better understanding of how different stakeholders’ experience co-creation of value. This is relevant for innovation managers in the process of redesigning innovation processes to understand different aspects of the interactions involved. / KIT / SIMGIC

The Relationship Between Mother's Level of Education and Parent Involvement

Despite an extensive body of literature on the relationship between parents’ education and a child’s academic outcomes, there is considerably less research into the factors that influence parent involvement. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlates associated with parent involvement with their child inside and outside of school. I use Pierre Bourdieu's theory of the Forms of Capital and Habitus, specifically focusing on cultural capital, to frame my analysis. I use data from the 2007 National Household Education Survey of Parent and Family Involvement (n=10,628), a nationally representative sample, to examine if mother’s level of education is associated with different dimensions of parent involvement. I examined six dimensions of parent involvement: parent involvement at school, parent volunteering, cultural activities, cultural outings, group activities, and homework help. Mother’s level of education was significantly associated with all types of involvement except homework help.

Predicting Depression Symptoms Among College Students: The Influence of Parenting Style

This study examined parenting style variables in predicting college students’ depression symptoms. Participants were 989 college students who participated in the first wave of the Spit for Science project (Dick et al., 2011). This study described the prevalence of depression symptoms, including the percentage of the sample endorsing various depression symptoms, and the frequency depression scores were elevated at multiple time points. A hierarchical multiple regression was conducted to examine whether two dimensions of parenting style, Autonomy Granting and Parental Involvement, would interact in predicting depression symptoms in the Junior year. The present study demonstrates that parenting style predicts a small but significant amount of variance in depression symptoms, after controlling for demographic characteristics, and these variables interact in producing their effect. Overall, findings suggest that depression symptoms are common and parenting style is relevant in understanding such symptoms.

Depuis les années 1990, le concept de participation a fait un retour marqué dans la société civile mais également au sein de la sphère politique, sous la forme d’une généralisation du débat public. Intrinsèquement lié au processus d’individuation de la société contemporaine, l’« impératif participatif » s’impose peu à peu aux responsables politiques et questionne la manière traditionnelle, fondée sur la légitimité élective, de concevoir l’action publique. A l’instar des autres politiques publiques, la politique culturelle se trouve elle aussi confrontée à la question de la participation des citoyens à l’élaboration de la décision publique. Les notions de démocratie culturelle et plus récemment celles de diversité et de droits culturels sont venues ainsi affirmer la légitimité des personnes à contribuer de façon effective à l’élaboration d’un projet politique partagé. Néanmoins, l’idéal de démocratisation culturelle qui légitime, depuis la création du ministère, l’intervention publique en matière culturelle, a induit un processus de hiérarchisation au détriment des citoyens, rendant difficile l’émergence d’un nouveau référentiel.Au plan local, la culture s’est peu à peu imposée au cœur des territoires comme un facteur essentiel de développement visant tout autant à accroitre l’attractivité qu’à garantir la cohésion sociale. En outre, les villes ont induit un rapprochement des centres de décision vers le citoyen afin de mieux prendre en compte les besoins et réalités spécifiques au territoire. Elles se sont ainsi emparées des notions de proximité et de gouvernance, qu’elles s’efforcent de mettre en œuvre au travers de dispositifs participatifs variés. Les municipalités pourraient alors initier le changement en matière de gouvernance culturelle et ainsi favoriser un processus d’égalisation des légitimités. Dans un mouvement inverse dit bottom-up, les citadins sont susceptibles de proposer des formes originales de co-construction de l’action publique. Nous proposons, dans une approche comparative, d’observer les dynamiques participatives dans le champ culturel et d’en apprécier la portée politique et sociale. / Since the 1990s, the concept of participation has made a comeback in civil society but also in the political sphere as a generalization of public debate. Intrinsically linked to the process of individuation in contemporary society, the "participatory imperative" has gradually gained policymakers’ attention, therefore questioning the traditional way, based on elective legitimacy, that public action is implemented.Like other public policy, cultural policy is also facing the issue of citizen participation in the public decision process. Concepts of cultural democracy and more recently the ones of diversity and cultural rights have come to affirm people legitimacy to contribute effectively to the development of a shared political project.In spite of this, cultural policy seems to be inadequately prepared to face the participatory issue. The ideal of cultural democratization, which has legitimized government intervention in the cultural field since the creation of the Ministry of Culture, has also induced a strong hierachical system at the expense of citizens, further compromising the emergence of a new framework.However, the process of decentralization of public action has made municipalities a major producer of cultural policy. Culture has gradually become a key factor in local development aimed at both increasing attractiveness and ensuring social cohesion. In addition, cities have had to narrow the gap between decision centers and citizens in order to take into account the territory special needs and realities. They have embraced the notions of proximity and governance, and strive to implement them through various participatory devices. In support of these factors, municipalities could then initiate a change in governance and promote equalization in cultural legitimacies. In a bottom-up perspective, citizens are likely to provide new forms of co-construction regarding public policy. In a comparative approach, we propose to observe local participatory dynamics in the cultural field and assess their political and social impact.

KOMMUNIKATION OCH DELAKTIGHET PÅ AKUTMOTTAGNING- UR PATIENTENS PERSPEKTIV-En litteraturstudie

Background: The meeting between the patient and nurses is the foundation of health care. It is important to get an understanding of the patient's experience of care in the emergency department from his perspective, to reduce dissatisfaction and suffering and promote good health for patients.     Aim: The purpose is to get a comprehensive picture of adult patients' experiences of communication and participation in the emergency department.     Method: A literature review with thematic content analysis using deductive approach, based on 14 qualitative articles.     Results: According to the patients affected their experience of communication and participation in the emergency department how they will be attending nurse and visibility they get in their care situation. There were four themes based on the result, which is "to get individualized information creates knowledge," A mutual dialogue builds trust and security "," To not understand the medical aspects causing concern "and" Being able to control their health situation provides a greater understanding of health situation ". / Bakgrund: Mötet mellan patient och sjuksköterska utgör grunden i hälso- och sjukvården. Det är av stor vikt att få en förståelse för patientens upplevelse av omvårdnaden på akutmottagningen ur dennes perspektiv för att minska missnöje och lidande och främja en god hälsa hos patienter.   Syfte: Syftet är att få en översiktlig bild av vuxna patienters upplevelse av kommunikation och delaktighet på akutmottagningen.   Metod: En litteraturstudie med tematisk innehållsanalys och deduktiv ansats, baserad på 14 kvalitativa artiklar.   Resultat: Enligt patienter påverkas deras upplevelse av kommunikation och delaktighet på akutmottagning av hur de blir behandlande av sjuksköterskan samt den insyn de får i sin vårdsituation. Det uppkom fyra teman utifrån resultatet, vilka är “Att få individualiserad information skapar kunskap, “En ömsesidig dialog skapar tillit och trygghet”, “Att inte förstå de medicinska aspekterna skapar oro” och “Att kunna kontrollera sin vårdsituation ger ökad förståelse för vårdsituationen”.   Slutsats: Resultatet av litteraturstudien visar att kommunikation och delaktighet på akutmottagningen påverkas av patientens upplevda trygghet och kontroll över sin vårdsituation samt av förtroenden för sjuksköterskan. Patientens rädsla och oro under sin vårdtid kan minska när informationen är mer individanpassad eftersom denne känner sig mer delaktig och känner större kontroll över sin vårdsituation. Det är därför viktigt att sjuksköterskan lyssnar till patientens behov och bjuder in denne till en god och ömsesidig dialog. Det är lika viktigt för sjuksköterskan att förstå vikten av att involvera patienten i alla aspekter som rör patientens vårdsituation samt att kunna identifiera varje patientens behov av god omvårdnad.

A study of the effects of self-esteem and family involvement on gang activity involvement among adolescent females

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and gang activity involvement and family involvement and gang activity involvement among adolescent females. Using non-probability sampling, fifty African American ninth-grade students who were enrolled at an Atlanta Public School were selected. An original questionnaire was administered to examine the participants' level of self-esteem, family involvement, and gang activity involvement. Findings indicated that self-esteem and family involvement were not correlated with gang activity involvement. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.

This study examines the perceptions of low socioeconomonic status, high academic achievement Vietnamese middle grades students in the Vietnamese community with respect to the roles that their parents and communities play in supporting academic achievement. Previous research has established the positive relationships between parent involvement and student achievement, and between high SES and student achievement. However, this study explores the perceptions of high achieving middle grades students with low SES. Through focus group discussions and interviews, this study examines student achievement within the theoretical framework of social capital.

Exploring the perceptions, experiences and challenges of families after the father’s exposure to a fatherhood intervention programme

Although a father’s availability and time with his child is important, the quality of a father’s involvement with his child is however, the strong predictor of child well-being. Therefore, Fatherhood intervention programmes desire to address fundamental issues that prevent men from succeeding in their fathering role. An understanding and evidence of the influence of fatherhood interventions on the role of the father in the family, is thus required. The aim of the study was to explore the perceptions, experiences and challenges of families after the father’s exposure to a fatherhood intervention programme. A qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews was utilized. Thematic analysis had been used to analyse the data and five themes emerged from the study. They were constructions of fatherhood, experiences and perceptions of the fatherhood intervention programme, father’s experiences of the father-child relationship after exposure to the programme, spouse/partner perceptions and experiences of their relationships with their spouse after exposure to the programme, and the facilitator’s experiences of engaging fathers. The overall outcomes were that families perceived and experienced the fathers to be more involved, responsible and sharing in parenthood after exposure to the fatherhood intervention programme. This led to an increase of father involvement with children - childcare activities, schoolwork and well-being of the children; their spouse/partner - an improvement in the quality of the relationship between the fathers and their spouses/partners and an increase involvement in the home.

The effects of competing commitments on the relationship between organisational stress and well-being

Faculty of Humanities School of Human and Community Development 0004529r Chazens2global.co.za / This study aimed to investigate the nature of the relationship between organisational stress, in terms of individual’s emotional reactions to their jobs, and physical and psychological well-being. It then aimed to expand upon previous research in this area, by considering the effects of potential mediators such as job and family involvement on this relationship. In addition to this it aimed to explore the possible differences in the emotions at work, well-being and job and family involvement as experienced by individuals of different demographic groups. Questionnaires containing a biographical information sheet and four well-established measures, including the Job-Related Affective Well-Being Scale, the Well- Being Scale, as well as the Job Involvement Questionnaire and Family Involvement Scale, were distributed to the male and female employees at a large organisation in Johannesburg. This sampling method yielded a final sample of 249 respondents, consisting of 120 men and 129 women. The results of this study illustrated significant differences in the physical well-being of the men and women in the sample, with men reporting experiencing greater levels of positive physical well-being than their female counterparts. A significant difference was also demonstrated in the emotions at work experienced by the Black and White respondents of the study, with the Black individuals reporting more positive emotions at work than their White counterparts. In addition, the findings of this study indicated that there was a positive relationship between the constructs of emotions at work and physical and psychological well-being and that emotions at work mediated the relationships between job and family involvement and well-being.
